Abstract
Addressing overweight and obesity to promote healthy aging is essential. Exercise is an outstanding approach to manage metabolic and physical dysfunction. Aquatic exercise has been recommended for older individuals due to reduced weight pressure on joints. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of twenty-eight weeks of combined aquatic exercise (aerobic and resistance) in overweight healthy older individuals. Thirty-two subjects of both genders with mean age of 72.06 ± 5.8 years were randomly assigned into two groups: an aquatic exercise group (EG; n = 19) and a control group (CG; n = 13). Body composition, anthropometric measurements, blood pressure, lipid profile, fasting glucose, insulin, and leptin were assessed before and after the training program. The lipid profile, fasting glucose, leptin, insulin, and insulin resistance did not change between and within groups. The lipid profile worsened in the CG. Reduction in body fat mass, waist and leg circumferences, along with body mass gain in the aquatic exercise group was observed (p ≤ 0.05). Systolic and diastolic blood pressure significantly improved in the exercise group (P = 0.003, P = 0.001). Significant differences were found in aerobic endurance (P = 0.008) and lower body flexibility (P = 0.049) of the aquatic exercise group compared with the control group. Also, upper body flexibility (P = 0.001, P = 0.020), lower and upper body strength (P = 0.001, P = 0.031), and handgrip (P = 0.001, P = 0.006), showed significant differences within the exercise group. Aquatic exercise may have a positive impact on the overweight aging population's metabolic and cardiovascular parameters, based on the observed improvements in blood pressure and body composition.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study examined whether decline in cognitive function is related to arterial stiffness and reduction in physical fitness in middle-aged and older adults. METHODS A total of 1554 healthy middle-aged and older adults participated in this study. The trail making test parts-A (TMT-A) and B (TMT-B), brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV), grip strength, the 30-s chair stand (CS-30) test, the 6-min walk (6MW) test, the 8-foot up-and-go (8UG) test and gait assessment were performed. Participants were classified into a middle-aged group (40-64 years; mean, 50.4 ± 0.2 years) or an older group (≥ 65 years; mean, 73.1 ± 0.5 years), as well as into three cognition (COG) groups (high, moderate, and low) based on median TMT-A and -B scores (high scores on both, either, or neither TMT-A and -B, respectively). RESULTS The results revealed that baPWV was significantly lower in the high-than in the moderate- and low-COG groups in both middle-aged and older adults (P < 0.05). In addition, except for a few parameters (e.g., 6MW test in middle-aged adults), physical fitness was significantly higher in the high-than in the moderate- and low-COG groups in both middle-aged and older adults (P < 0.05). Multivariate regression analysis revealed that baPWV (P < 0.05) and some physical fitness indicators (grip strength, CS-30, and 8UG) were significantly independently associated with both TMT-A and -B in the middle-aged and older groups (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION These results suggest that increased arterial stiffness and reduced physical fitness are associated with impaired cognitive function in middle-aged and older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Older men are more vulnerable to fatal falls than women, and gait disturbances contribute to the risk of falls. Studies have assessed the association between arterial stiffness and gait dysfunction, but the results have been inconclusive. This study aimed to conduct a cross-sectional analysis to evaluate the association between brachial-ankle pulse wave velocity (baPWV) and gait assessment in older men. METHODS Data from the 2014-2015 Korea Institute of Sport Science Fitness Standards project were used for the analysis. The inclusion criteria were men aged > 65 years with gait assessment [the 30-s chair stand test (30s-CST), the timed up and go (TUG) test, the figure-of-8 walk (F8W) test, the 2-min step test (2MST), and the 6-min walk test (6MWT)] and baPWV measurement data. Generalized linear regression analysis was conducted with multiple confounding factor adjustments, including lower extremity isometric strength. RESULTS A total of 291 participants were included in the analysis. The mean age was 71.38 ± 4.40 years. The mean values were as follows: (1) 30s-CST, 17.48 ± 5.00; (2) TUG test, 6.01 ± 1.10 s; (3) F8W test, 25.65 ± 4.71 s; (4) 2MST, 102.40 ± 18.83 per 2 min; and (5) 6MWT, 500.02 ± 85.65 m. After multivariable adjustment, baPWV was associated with the 6MWT (β = -0.037, 95% CI: -0.072--0.002), TUG test (β = 0, 95% CI: 0.000-0.001), and F8W test (β = 0.002, 95% CI: 0.000-0.004). baPWV was not associated with the 30s-CST and 2MST. CONCLUSIONS The current study showed a statistically significant association between gait assessments and arterial stiffness, independent of lower extremity strength. However, this association was modest. Future prospective studies are needed to elucidate the complex relationship between arterial stiffness and gait dysfunction.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between physical ability and spatial navigation in older adults with mild cognitive impairment and healthy controls, using the floor maze test. Study participants (n = 58) were subjected to the following tests: floor maze test, sit-to-stand, 8-foot up-and-go, and aerobic steps. Factorial analyses showed that performance of the physical tests combined explained approximately 87% of the sample variability. Mobility (R2 = .22, p ≤ .001) and aerobic capacity (R2 = .27, p ≤ .001) were both associated with delayed maze time in the floor maze test. Low levels of aerobic capacity were also associated with an increased odds to perform poorly in the delayed maze time after controlling for age, sex, and mild cognitive impairment diagnosis (odds ratio = 3.1; 95% confidence interval [1.0, 9.5]; p = .04). Aerobic capacity and mobility are associated with spatial navigation in patients with mild cognitive impairment and healthy older adults.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the association between physical fitness, cognitive function, and depressive symptoms among older adults in long-term care facilities (LTCFs). Methods: Seventy-six institutionalized male and female elderly individuals (65 years and older) living in LTCFs participated of this study. Physical fitness (aerobic capacity and strength), cognitive functions (global cognition, short-term and working and semantic memories, and executive function), and depressive symptoms were assessed. Linear regression and contingency analyses were performed. Significance was accepted at p-values ≤ 0.05. Results: Aerobic capacity predicted 32% of variance in global cognition (p < 0.01) and 25% of variance in semantic fluency/executive function (p < 0.01). Low levels of upper limb strength, lower limb strength, and aerobic capacity were associated with semantic fluency/executive function (OR = 1.38, p = 0.01, OR = 1.26, p = 0.03, and OR = 1.07, p = 0.01, respectively) and depressive symptoms (OR = 1.06, p < 0.01). Conclusion: Poor physical fitness is associated with cognition and depressive symptoms in institutionalized older adults. Low levels of strength and aerobic fitness increase the odds of presenting with impaired semantic fluency and executive function, possibly denoting an increased risk of developing dementia.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to explore the feasibility and preliminary effectiveness of the Lifestyle-Integrated Functional Exercise for People with Dementia (LiFE4D) on health-related physical fitness, cognitive function, physical activity, and respiratory and upper limb functions. A randomized controlled pilot study was conducted (control group: usual care; experimental group: usual care and LiFE4D). The feasibility of LiFE4D was determined considering recruitment, protocol acceptability, adherence, and safety. Measures of health-related physical fitness, cognitive function, physical activity, and respiratory and upper limb functions were assessed at the baseline and 3 months. Twelve participants (8 [66.7%] female, 82 [72.2-84] years) were included, six per group. Recruitment was challenging. LiFE4D was acceptable with excellent adherence and no major adverse events. Cardiorespiratory endurance (effect size = 1.64, 95% confidence interval [CI; 0.33, 2.95]) and balance (effect size = 1.46, 95% CI [0.19, 2.73]) improved after LiFE4D. LiFE4D seems to be feasible and safe, and it shows potential to significantly improve the health-related physical fitness of people with dementia.

Abstract
Cognitive-motor function affects the functionality from initial dependency in IADL. Walk plus cognitive demand impacts IADL more than only physical or cognitive tasks. Dual-task and spatial navigation can be useful for screening IADL ability in Dementia.
Background Instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) ability impairments are clearly related to cognitive and motor decline, as well as to the progression of Dementia. However, more low-cost assessments are necessary to better understand the process of IADL in patients with Dementia. Objective To compare cognitive, motor and cognitive-motor performance at different stages of dependence on IADL in patients with Dementia. Methods Dementia patients (n = 53, age range: 63–94) and healthy older adults (n = 39, age range: 62–97) were included, and those with Dementia were separated into IADL 1 (n = 18), IADL 2 (n = 17), IADL 3 (n = 18). All groups performed cognitive (Trail making test A, semantic verbal fluency, and Stroop test), motor (sit to stand, aerobic steps, and 8-foot up-and-go), and cognitive-motor tests (dual-task, and spatial navigation). One-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, and Bonferroni post-hoc tests were used to compare groups. Also, an effect size (ES) has been applied to evaluate differences among the dementia groups while the healthy older adults were used as a reference group. Results Only cognitive-motor and cognitive tests showed significant differences among groups (IADL 1 x IADL 2 x IADL 3). Compared with the healthy group, the ES analysis exposed that patients in different stages of IADL showed the worst performance on tests combining motor and cognitive demand, but not for motor and cognitive function separately. Conclusion Poor dual-task and spatial navigation abilities are present in partial dependence in IADL, and these tasks should be considered as a functionality screening tool in patients with Dementia.

Abstract
ABSTRACT Objective Long-term care facilities (LTCF) are associated with an increased risk of cognitive decline and impairment in spatial navigation abilities. Recent studies have demonstrated that spatial navigation as a complex skill, involving cognitive and motor functions, emerging as a new marker for the progression of dementia. The present study aims to compare spatial navigation in healthy, institutionalized, and AD elderly subjects. Methods In a cross-sectional study, we evaluated 78 elderly individuals (healthy = 37, AD = 22, institutionalized = 19) using the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Floor Maze Test (FMT) and 8-foot-up-and-gotest (8UG) to assess global cognitive function, spatial navigation and motor function, respectively. Results In the FMT, the immediate maze time (IMT) and delay maze time (DMT) were significantly shorter in the healthy group than those of the institutionalized and AD groups ( X 2 = 31.23; p < 0.01) and ( X 2 = 41.21; p < 0.01), while there were no significant differences between the AD and institutionalized groups in terms of the DMT and MMSE results. However, the institutionalized group showed worse results in terms of IMT (p < 0.01) and 8UG (p < 0.01) than those in the dementia group. Conclusion Our results indicate that both institutionalized older people and patients with Dementia have a deficit in the spatial navigation ability, cognitive functions and motor skills. We should consider that there might be a possibility of underdiagnosis in institutionalized older people.
