Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of neonatal dermatoses in the early neonatal
period and to associate them with neonatal, demographic and obstetric
variables. Methods: A cross-sectional study with neonates and their respective mothers, who were
hospitalized in a public maternity hospital in Curitiba, PR, Brazil. Data
collection was performed using information present in the medical records
and a physical examination of the newborn during the period between April
2015 and May 2016. Results: 350 neonates were evaluated. 54.8% were male, and 94.8% (332/350) presented
a dermatosis. Among them, 84.6% had, concomitantly, two or more dermatoses.
A total of 23 types of dermatoses were diagnosed. The most prevalent were:
sebaceous hyperplasia (66%); fluff (42.6%); and salmon patches (41.4%). The
mean age of the mothers was 24.9±4.9 years old, and they were predominately
white (57.7%). Vernix caseosa was associated with the female gender
(p=0.034). Nonwhite mothers were associated with genital hyperpigmentation
(p=0.03) and Mongolian spots (p=0.001). Physiological flaking was associated
with cesarean deliveries (p=0.03) and a gestational age of over 40 weeks
(p=0.054). Salmon patches was associated with primiparity (p=0.0001). Conclusions: There was a high prevalence of neonatal dermatosis in the studied
population. Each newborn had, on average, three different dermatoses.
Dermatosis in neonates was associated with primiparity, nonwhites, a
gestational age of over 40 weeks, and the sex of the newborn.

Abstract
Venous malformations are an extremely infrequent condition in the gastrointestinal tract, particularly in the esophagus. We report a rare case of an adult with an asymptomatic mass located in the mediastinum and in whom the diagnosis and treatment of a venous malformation of the esophagus was performed through a thoracoscopic approach. When dealing with a hypervascularized submucosal esophageal tumor, venous malformations can be among the differential diagnoses.

Abstract

Abstract
The Sturge-Weber (SWS) syndrome is a rare condition with congenital capillary malformations. Hemorrhages may occur on dental treatment, which can have a dramatic effect on a patient's vital sign. The aim of the present brief clinical study was to briefly report a case of a female patient with SWS who underwent an endodontic treatment. A 25-year-old patient (C.O.B.S.) with SWS and vascular malformation in cervicofacial right region was admitted to the dental clinic with pulsatile pain in tooth 16. An emergency dental treatment with cavity preparation and access to root canals was performed with intraligamentary and intrapulpal anesthesia with 3% prilocain 3% with felypressin 0.03 UI/mL because the tooth was located in the region of the vascular malformation, and any surgical treatment could lead to hemorrhages. After 7 days, the patient was recalled with the absence of painful symptoms. The endodontic treatment in patients with SWS is feasible, and safety should be an alternative to surgical treatments.

Abstract
The Rendu-Osler-Weber syndrome is a rare systemic fibrovascular dysplasia, recognized by mucocutaneous telangiectasias, arteriovenous malformations, epistaxis and family history. Recurrent bleeding, hypoxemia, congestive heart failure, portosystemic encephalopathy, and symptoms related to angiodysplasia of the central nervous system may occur. Since the treatment is based on supportive measures, early recognition is of utmost importance. This article reports the case of a 53-year-old male patient who presented telangiectasias on fingers, oral cavity and nasal mucosa for 10 years, with a history of recurrent epistaxis of varying severity since childhood. Mother, sister and daughter have similar lesions.

Abstract
Angiogenesis plays critical roles in human physiology that range from reproduction and fetal growth to wound healing and tissue repair. The sophisticated multistep process is tightly regulated in a spatial and temporal manner by "on-off switch signals" between angiogenic factors, extracellular matrix components, and endothelial cells. Uncontrolled angiogenesis may lead to several angiogenic disorders, including vascular insufficiency (myocardial or critical limb ischemia) and vascular overgrowth (hemangiomas, vascularized tumors, and retinopathies). Thus, numerous therapeutic opportunities can be envisaged through the successful understanding and subsequent manipulation of angiogenesis. Here, we review the clinical implications of angiogenesis and discuss pro- and antiangiogenic agents that offer potential therapy for cancer and other angiogenic diseases.

Abstract
Unilateral nevoid telangiectasia is a rare vascular dermatosis, characterized by areas of superficial telangiectases distributed in a linear unilateral pattern. It was described in 1899 by Zeisler and Blascko. Several theories where developed in order to explain its etiopathogenesis. The most widely accepted is the one which establishes its probable association with an increase in the estrogen levels. There are two types: congenital and acquired. The latter is associated with hepatopathies in male patients. The acquired form is rarely observed in healthy men, with a few cases reported in the medical literature, and its etiology is unknown. This study reports the case of a healthy young man with acquired unilateral nevoid telangiectasia, without any comorbidities, clinical and /or laboratory findings indicative of hyperestrogenism.

Abstract

Abstract
