Abstract
The effect of the chronic consumption of water contaminated with residual concentrations of DDT's metabolites (DDD-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethane and DDE-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene) found in the environment were evaluated on the biometric, hematological and antioxidant system parameters of the hepatic, muscular, renal and nervous tissues of Wistar rats. The results showed that the studied concentrations (0.002 mg.L-1 of DDD plus 0.005 mg.L-1 of DDE) could not cause significant changes in the hematological parameters. However, the tissues showed significant alteration in the activity of the antioxidant system represented by the increase in the activity of the enzymes gluthathione S-transferases in the liver, superoxide dismutase in the kidney, gluthathione peroxidase in the brain, and several changes in enzymatic activity in muscle (SOD, GPx and LPO). The enzymes alanine aminotransaminase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransaminase (AST) were also evaluated for the amino acids' metabolism in the liver, with ALT showing a significant increase in the exposed animals. In the integrative analysis of biomarkers (Permanova and PCOA), the studied concentrations showed possible metabolic changes and damage to cellular structures evidenced by increased oxidative stress and body weight gain among the treated animals. This study highlights the need for further studies on the impact of banned pesticides still present in soils that may induce adverse effects in organisms that may prevail in future generations and the environment.

Abstract
Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) has become an adjuvant therapeutic possibility in body remodeling procedures. Given this scenario, this study was proposed with the aim of evaluating the effects of PBMT to Light Emitting Diode (LED) associating the red (630 nm) and infrared (850 nm) wavelengths in the subcutaneous fatty tissue. This controlled study of comparative intervention that evaluated a sample of subcutaneous fatty tissue from women with grade II obesity. The participants received the LED PBMT treatment with associated red and infrared wavelengths sequentially on the left side of the abdomen and the right side was considered as control, with the collection of biological material performed at the time of bariatric surgery. For histological and immunohistochemical evaluation, Caspase 3, Cleaved Caspase 3, CD68+, HSL and adipophilin markers were used. The participants showed positivity in the expression of Caspase 3 and Cleaved Caspase (p < .0001), CD68+ macrophages (p < .0001), HSL (p < .0001) and adipophilin (p < .0013) in the intervention sample when compared to the control. PBMT and LED associating red and infrared wavelengths were able to promote autophagic lipolysis induced by adipocyte cell apoptosis in the subcutaneous tissue of obese individuals.

Abstract
Some studies have demonstrated the participation of leptin in magnesium metabolism. On the other hand, there is evidence of the role of magnesium in the leptin intracellular signaling pathway. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the existence of a relationship between serum leptin concentrations and magnesium biomarkers in women with obesity. Case-control study involving 108 women aged between 20 and 50 years, divided into two groups: obese (n = 52) and control (n = 56). Body weight, height and waist circumference, body mass index, dietary magnesium intake, magnesium biomarkers and serum leptin concentrations were measured. Serum leptin concentrations showed a statistically significant difference between groups (p < 0.001). Mean values of magnesium intake were lower than intake recommended, and with no statistically significant difference between two groups (p > 0.05). Women with obesity had lower plasma and erythrocyte magnesium concentrations than control group did (p < 0.001). Magnesium concentrations found in the urine of women with obesity were higher than the control group was, with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). There was a correlation between serum leptin and magnesium biomarkers (p < 0.001). Women with obesity show an inadequate magnesium nutritional status characterized by low plasma and erythrocyte concentrations and high concentrations in urine, and they also have high serum leptin concentrations. Thus, it was possible to observe a correlation between hyperleptinemia and magnesium biomarkers, requiring further studies to determine whether the dysfunction of this hormone can influence the compartmentalization of the mineral in obese organisms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular diseases correspond to the highest risk of sudden death worldwide, and obesity is largely related to being an increased risk factor. There is a higher prevalence of arterial hypertension in obese individuals, including the presence of cardiac hypertrophy. METHODS It is already known the role of toll-like receptors [TLR], mainly 2 and 4 in heart cells, as fundamental to the process of cardiac hypertrophy. Obesity has been studied as an activator of damage-associated molecular patterns [DAMPs], which use the TLR signaling pathway to increase the nuclear factor of inflammation, NF-kB, increasing cytokine expression in heart tissue. It's already known that FVB/N and C57BL/6 mouse strains have different behaviors in relation to metabolism, but the difference in cardiac tropism and innate immune system modulation is not clear. RESULTS The present study aimed to evaluate the contribution of innate immune factors to cardiac hypertrophy induced by an experimental model of obesity comparing two mouse strains: C57BL/6 and FVB/N. Both strains were submitted to a high-fat diet containing 23% protein, 35.5% carbohydrate, and 35.9% fat for 68 days. Hearts were collected, weighed, and submitted to RT-qPCR, and iBoplex analyzed the serum. We observed an increase in heart mass after 68 days in both strains. CONCLUSION This was followed by an increase of -actin only in C57BL/6 while ANF was increased in FVB/N. Gene expression of innate immune components and inflammatory cytokines were only increased in C57BL/6, but not in FVB/N. Based on the results obtained, we verified that C57BL/6 mice had a more robust action of innate immune system than FVB/N.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE A high prevalence of obesity is reported in children and adolescents with autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). Adipokines participate in inflammatory processes. The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between excess weight and systemic inflammation, adipokines, and ghrelin in adolescents with AIH. METHOD This case-controlled study included 27 adolescents with AIH (13 with excess weight and 14 with normal weight) and a control group. Excess weight was defined by a body mass index/age Z score >+1 standard deviation. Adipokines (adiponectin, leptin, tumor necrosis factor alpha, interleukin 6 [IL-6], and IL-10) and ghrelin were measured with Luminex technology. RESULTS Adiponectin (μg/mL) was higher (P < 0.001) in AIH adolescents with and without excess weight (median: 35.0 and 42.1, respectively) than in normal-weight (17.5) and excess-weight (17.0) controls. Leptin was higher (P < 0.001) in excess-weight AIH patients (18.0 ng/mL) and controls (19.8 ng/mL) than in normal-weight AIH (7.7 ng/mL) and control (7.0 ng/mL) adolescents. IL-6 levels were higher in excess-weight (3.8 pg/mL) and normal-weight (3.8 pg/mL) AIH patients than in excess-weight (1.1 pg/mL) and normal-weight (0.5 pg/mL) controls. IL-10 levels were higher (5.2 pg/mL) in normal-weight AIH patients than in excess-weight (1.8 pg/mL) and normal-weight (2.1 pg/mL) controls. Ferritin levels were lower in patients with AIH than in controls. CONCLUSIONS Independent of body weight, AIH patients had higher levels of adipokines, especially adiponectin and IL-6. Leptin levels were associated with body weight and were not influenced by AIH. IL-10 levels were associated with lean tissue in AIH.

Abstract
Dyslipidemias are associated with the incidence of cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, hypertension and hepatic steatosis, being the cause of morbidity and mortality. This study investigated the effects of lychee peel flour (PF) on serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein (LDL-c), triacylglycerols (TAG) and various parameters related to obesity, in rats fed a hypercholesterolemic diet. Therefore, 20 male rats were used. In the first 21 days, the animals were fed a hypercholesterolemic diet, except for control group. In the following 21 days, their diets were modified, and they received a standard diet (Control); hypercholesterolemic (Hyper); hypercholesterolemic + 5% PF (PF5) and hypercholesterolemic + 10% PF (PF10). The results revealed that PF intake attenuated weight gain, reduced body mass index, glucose and the levels of TAG, TC, LDL-c, hepatic enzymes and leptin, besides the percentage of hepatic lipids, liver lipid peroxidation and frequency of severe steatosis. Histological studies of the aorta did not show the formation of the atheromatous plaque. These results reinforce its potential to reduce the risk of diseases associated with obesity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Although is complex to identify the factors responsible for the important growth in obesity all over the world, the main causes are increased consumption of energy, highly saturated fats and sugars, and reduced physical activity. AIM To compare rats with normal and supplemented diet with sucrose in relationship to body mass, weight of gonadal and retroperitoneal fat and Lee index. METHODS Forty rats were divided into two groups: 20 in the control group that received normal chow diet and water for three months, and 20 animals in the experimental group who received the same diet but supplemented with sucrose 300 g/l of water. The animals were weighed once a week during 91 days. At scheduled death, they had measured the naso-anal length, body weight and Lee index. After laparotomy, retroperitoneal and gonadal fat were isolated, dried and the percentage of weight in relation to body weight at the date of death was evaluated. RESULTS There was a statistic significant difference between the 14th and 78th day favoring the experiment group indicating that sucrose interferes with weight gain in rats. The average weight was higher in the experimental group in all periods in comparison to initial weight. There was also significant difference in the weight of the gonadal and retroperitoneal fat. There was no significant difference comparing the Lee index. CONCLUSION The body mass index was higher in animals treated with diet supplemented with sucrose and had higher gonadal and retroperitoneal fat, but no difference in the Lee index.

Abstract
OBJETIVO: Verificar o efeito de 12 semanas de dieta hipocalórica sobre a composição corporal e o nível sérico lipídico de mulheres adultas com sobrepeso. MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta por vinte mulheres (23,80, desvio-padrão de 2,73 anos) da academia Westfit-Bangu, divididas randomicamente em dois grupos de dez: grupo controle e grupo dieta hipoenergética. Foi realizada uma avaliação da composição corporal (massa corporal, percentual de gordura, índice de massa corporal e massa magra) e do nível sérico lipídico (colesterol total, triglicerídeos, lipoproteína de baixa densidade, lipoproteína de alta densidade e lipoproteínas de muito baixa densidade). Utilizou-se a estatística descritiva (média e desvio-padrão) e o teste t de Student na análise inter e intragrupos. O nível de significância foi de p<0,05. RESULTADOS: O grupo dieta hipoenergética apresentou reduções significativas (p<0,05) nas variáveis antropométricas (massa corporal, percentual de gordura, índice de massa corporal e massa magra) e nas variáveis lipídicas (triglicerídios, colesterol total, lipoproteína de baixa densidade e lipoproteínas de muito baixa densidade). Quanto à variável: lipoproteína de alta densidade, foi observada uma redução, porém não significativa. CONCLUSÃO: A partir dos resultados apresentados pode-se concluir que a dieta hipoenergética foi uma excelente opção no tratamento da obesidade e no controle do nível sérico dos lipídeos, contribuindo desta forma, para a redução dos riscos cardiovasculares na população estudada.

Abstract
Este artigo tem como objetivo revisar aspectos relacionados a transtornos alimentares e suas relações com as alterações no ritmo circadiano. Realizou-se uma busca sistematizada das informações nas bases de dados PubMed usando os seguintes descritores: eating disorders, circadian rhythm, night eating syndrome, binge eating disorder e sleep patterns. Os transtornos alimentares, como a síndrome do comer noturno e o transtorno da compulsão alimentar periódica, têm sido considerados e relacionados a um atraso no ritmo circadiano da ingestão alimentar e saciedade prejudicada. Os ritmos circadianos são aqueles que apresentam um período de 24 h, como, por exemplo, o ciclo sono-vigília, temperatura corporal, atividade e comportamento alimentar. Distúrbios provocados pelas alterações nos horários de sono/vigília influenciam o apetite, a saciedade e, consequentemente, a ingestão alimentar, o que parece favorecer o aumento desses transtornos. Percebe-se que o comportamento alimentar pode ser influenciado por ritmos circadianos.
