Research progress in the clinical application of inhaled anesthetic sevoflurane

Sevoflurane has been widely used in clinical anesthesia as an inhalation anesthetic. With the development of medicine, there have been several new applications in recent years, such as daytime surgery, labor analgesia, and combined nerve block for some surgeries. Moreover, as research progresses, it has been found that it not only has potential organ protection effects but can also be used to treat severe asthma and relieve the tracheal spasm state. In addition, local administration can effectively treat vascular ulcers. We briefly review the organ protective effect of sevoflurane, its application in dental treatment, asthma treatment, vascular ulcer treatment and some new progress in clinical application.

Procedural sedation in pediatric dentistry: a narrative review

Procedural sedation and analgesia are now considered standard care for managing pain and anxiety in pediatric dental patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures outside of the operating room. Anxiolysis, which combines both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches, plays a significant role in procedural sedation. Non-pharmacologic interventions such as Behavior Management Technology can help reduce preprocedural agitation, ease the transition to sedation, reduce the required amount of medication for effective sedation, and decrease the occurrence of adverse events. As the introduction of novel sedative regimen and methods in pediatric dentistry, the potential role of mainstay sedatives administered by new routes, for new indications, and with new delivery techniques, should be considered. The purpose of this paper is to examine and discuss the current state of sedation techniques in pediatric dentistry.

Application of sevoflurane inhalation sedation in dental treatment: a mini review

Sevoflurane is familiar to anesthesiologists as an inhaled anesthetic to induce and maintain anesthesia; however, it has not been widely used for sedation. Recently, the use of sevoflurane for inhalational sedation has been increasing. Moreover, in Korea, the use of sevoflurane for conscious or deep sedation in dental care for children and the disabled is increasing, primarily by dental anesthesiologists. In this article, we reviewed a sedation method using sevoflurane.

Difficult intubation caused by an immature upper airway in a patient with cri-du-chat syndrome: a case report

Cri-du-chat syndrome (CdCS) is caused by the deletion of the short arm of chromosome 5. Most patients with CdCS develop intellectual disabilities. Therefore, they have poor oral hygiene and a high caries index. However, treating such patients is not an easy task, because of the difficulty in communication. General anesthesia may be a useful option in adult patients with CdCS and intellectual disability. General anesthesia should be administered very carefully, owing to the presence of comorbid diseases, which may need airway management. Infants with CdCS need general anesthesia if they have a concomitant cardiac anomaly. Intubation is reportedly difficult for such patients was, owing to the structural and functional abnormalities in the larynx and vocal cords. The purpose of this study was to report a case of difficult intubation while inducing general anesthesia in a patient with CdCS during dental treatment, due to a narrow larynx and trachea.
