Abstract
This study was conducted to elucidate the effects of FOS that alleviate Aeromonas hydrophila-induced intestinal damage. The results showed that A. hydrophila disrupted the intestinal structure and increased intestinal permeability, causing abnormalities in mucosal pathology. Additionally, A. hydrophila induced an imbalance in the intestinal flora and disturbed its stability. Dietary FOS ameliorated the injury to the intestinal structure of fish, but also in part improved the condition of the intestinal tight junction complex. Transcriptomic analysis showed that 120 genes were up-regulated and 320 genes were down-regulated. The intestinal immune network for the IgA production signalling pathway was enriched following A. hydrophila infection, and the change in the FOS group was mainly in the Tight junction signalling pathway. Similarly, dietary FOS reduced the disruption of the intestinal microbiota induced by A. hydrophila and improved the intestinal microbiota's stability; FOS was also partially implicated in the upregulation of Tight junction and Adhesion junction pathways by transcriptomic analysis. After further analysis, it was found that fish fed FOS had upregulated expression of genes related to apoptosis, antigen presentation, and the T-cell-mediated immune response in the intestine compared with those in the A. hydrophila group, which may be related to changes in the intestinal microbiome.

Abstract
Fruits contain many bioactive compounds, including polysaccharides, oligosaccharides, polyphenols, anthocyanins, and flavonoids. All of these bioactives in fruit have potentially beneficial effects on gut microbiota and host health. On the one hand, fruit rich in active ingredients can act as substrates to interact with microorganisms and produce metabolites to regulate the gut microbiota. On the other hand, gut microbes could promote health effects in the host by balancing dysbiosis of gut microbiota. We have extensively analyzed significant information on bioactive components in fruits based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA). Although the deep mechanism of action of bioactive components in fruits on gut microbiota needs further study, these results also provide supportive information on fruits as a source of dietary active ingredients to provide support for the adjunctive role of fruits in disease prevention and treatment.

Abstract
(1) Background: Carbohydrates are the most important source of nutritional energy for the human body. Carbohydrate digestion, metabolism, and their role in the gut microbiota modulation are the focus of multiple studies. The objective of this weight of evidence systematic review is to investigate the potential relationship between ingested carbohydrates and the gut microbiota composition at different taxonomic levels. (2) Methods: Weight of evidence and information value techniques were used to evaluate the relationship between dietary carbohydrates and the relative abundance of different bacterial taxa in the gut microbiota. (3) Results: The obtained results show that the types of carbohydrates that have a high information value are: soluble fiber with Bacteroides increase, insoluble fiber with Bacteroides and Actinobacteria increase, and Firmicutes decrease. Oligosaccharides with Lactobacillus increase and Enterococcus decrease. Gelatinized starches with Prevotella increase. Starches and resistant starches with Blautia decrease and Firmicutes increase. (4) Conclusions: This work provides, for the first time, an integrative review of the subject by using statistical techniques that have not been previously employed in microbiota reviews.

Abstract
Constipation is a symptom that is widely found in the world’s population. Various dietary supplementations are used to relieve and prevent constipation. Seaweed is widely used for its health benefits. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effects of Sargassum plagiophyllum extract (SPE) on functions of the gastrointestinal tract and gut microbiota. The results show that SPE pretreatment increased the frequency of gut contraction, leading to reduce gut transit time. SPE pretreatment also significantly increased the secretion of Cl− and reduced Na+ absorption, increasing fecal water content in constipated mice (p < 0.05). In addition, the Bifidobacteria population in cecal contents was significantly higher in constipated mice pretreated with 500 mg/kg SPE for 14 days than in untreated constipated mice (p < 0.05). Our findings suggest that SPE can prevent constipation in loperamide-induced mice. This study may be useful for the development of human food supplements from S. plagiophyllum, which prevent constipation.

Abstract
The fruits and vegetables processing industry is one of the most relevant food by-products, displaying limited commercial exploitation entailing economic and environmental problems. However, these by-products present a considerable amount of dietary fiber and prebiotics with important biological activities, such as gut microbiota modulation, lowering the glycemic load and replacing some unhealthy ingredients with an impact on food texture. Therefore, the international scientific community has considered incorporating their extracts or powders to preserve or fortify food products an area of interest, mainly because nowadays consumers demand the production of safer and health-promoting foods. In the present review, literature, mainly from the last 5 years, is critically analyzed and presented. A particular focus is given to utilizing the extracted dietary fibers in different food products and their impact on their characteristics. Safety issues regarding fruits and vegetables wastes utilization and anti-nutritional compounds impact were also discussed.
