Abstract
Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) contributes to significant cancer burden and mortality globally. In recent years, much insight into the causes of NHL has been gained by evaluating global differences through international collaboration and data pooling. NHL comprises different subtypes that are known to behave differently, exhibit different prognoses, and start in distinct cell types (B-cell, T-cell, and NK-cell, predominantly), and there is increasing evidence that NHL subtypes have different etiologies. Classification of NHL can be complex, with varying subtype frequencies, and is a consideration when evaluating geographic differences. Because of this, international pooling of well-executed epidemiologic studies has conferred power to evaluate NHL by subtype and confidence with minimal misclassification. Given the decreasing burden in some regions while cases rise in Asia, and especially China, this report focuses on a review of the established etiology of NHL from the epidemiologic literature in recent decades, highlighting work from China. Topics covered include demographic patterns and genetic determinants including family history of NHL, as well as infection and immunosuppression, lifestyle, environment, and certain occupational exposures contributing to increased disease risk.

The Influence of Interleukin-2 Gene Polymorphisms on the Risk and Clinical Outcome of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. Indian J Hematol Blood Transfus 2021; 37:549-554. Abstract
Polymorphisms in the IL-2 gene are associated with various diseases and cancers including non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). The aim of the study is to assess the impact of IL-2 genetic polymorphisms [- 330 T/G (rs2069762) and + 114 T/G (rs2069763)] on the susceptibility and prognosis of NHL. Sixty patients with NHL as well as 60 age and sex matched healthy control subjects are included in this study. IL-2 genotypes were determined by Polymerase Chain Reaction-Restriction Fragment length Polymorphism assay (PCR-RFLP). Our study revealed that both IL-2 rs2069762 and rs2069763 gene polymorphisms are associated with increased risk of developing NHL; OR = 3.609 (95% CI = 1.527-8.417) and 4.142 (95% CI = 1.637-10.538) respectively. Moreover, the simultaneous presence of both polymorphisms is associated with about 6 fold increased risk of developing NHL. Also, IL-2 rs2069762 and rs2069763 gene polymorphisms increase the risk of unfavorable prognosis with OR = 17.300 (95% CI = 3.392-87.725) and 10.424(95% CI = 1.870-58.413) respectively. These findings suggest that IL-2 (rs2069762) and (rs2069763) gene polymorphisms could be involved in the development of NHL.

Abstract
Introduction: Lymphoma is a common hematopoietic cancer. Immunosuppression is one of the main risk factors for the development of lymphoma. The interleukin (IL)-1 receptor antagonist IL1RN, which binds to the IL-1 receptor, moderates a variety of immune responses related to IL-1. We aimed to assess the impact of IL1RN variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) polymorphism on lymphoma risk in an Iranian population sample. Materials and Methods: DNA was extracted from peripheral blood of 120 subjects with non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL), 50 subjects with Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL), and 186 unrelated healthy individuals. IL1RN VNTR polymorphism was detected using polymerase chain reaction. Results: Our findings revealed that the IL1RN VNTR polymorphism was associated with protection against NHL (P≤0.001, OR: 0.30, 95% CI: 0.18-0.53). The IL1RN 2 allele significantly decreased the risk of NHL (p = 0.023, OR = 0.66, 95%CI = 0.46-0.93). In addition, we found that IL1RN 1/2 was associated with a lower risk of HL (p ≤0.001, OR = 0.24, 95%CI = 0.12-0.50). Conclusion: Our results suggest that the presence of IL1RN VNTR polymorphism is associated with a decreased risk of lymphoma in an Iranian subpopulation in southeast Iran.

Abstract
IMPACT STATEMENT A comparative study of osteoarthritis (OA) and RA mice was implemented to suggest that miR-424 expression was increased in RA, and exosome-miR-424 derived from synovial fibroblasts (SFs-exo) could significantly induce T cells differentiation in which Th17 cells increased and Treg cells decreased via targeting FOXP3. And thus, miR-424 may be a potential therapeutic target for RA.

Abstract
Pemphigus foliaceus (PF) is an autoimmune blistering skin disease that occurs sporadically across the globe and is endemic in Brazil. Keratinocyte adhesion loss (acantholysis) is associated with high levels of anti-desmoglein 1 IgG autoantibodies, but the role of cell death is poorly understood in PF. Current evidence disqualifies apoptosis as the major cell death mechanism and no other process has yet been investigated. To approach the role of variation in genes responsible for cell death pathways in pemphigus susceptibility, we systematically investigated the frequencies of 1,167 polymorphisms from genes encoding products of all 12 well-established cell death cascades (intrinsic and extrinsic apoptosis, necrosis, necroptosis, ferroptosis, pyroptosis, parthanatos, entotic, NETotic, lysosome-dependent, autophagy-dependent, and immunogenic). By multivariate logistic regression, we compared allelic and genotypic frequencies of 227 PF patients and 194 controls obtained by microarray hybridization. We found 10 variants associated with PF (p < 0.005), belonging to six cell death pathways: apoptosis (TNF, TRAF2, CD36, and PAK2), immunogenic cell death (EIF2AK3, CD47, and SIRPA), necroptosis (TNF and TRAF2), necrosis (RAPGEF3), parthanatos (HK1), and pyroptosis (PRKN). Five polymorphisms were associated with susceptibility: TNF rs1800630*A (OR = 1.9, p = 0.0003), CD36 rs4112274*T (OR = 2.14, p = 0.0015), CD47 rs12695175*G (OR = 1.77, p = 0.0043), SIRPA rs6075340*A/A (OR = 2.75, p = 0.0009), and HK1 rs7072268*T (OR = 1.48, p = 0.0045). Other five variants were associated with protection: TRAF2 rs10781522*G (OR = 0.64, p = 0.0014), PAK2 rs9325377*A/A (OR = 0.48, p = 0.0023), EIF2AK3 rs10167879*T (OR = 0.48, p = 0.0007), RAPGEF3 rs10747521*A/A (OR = 0.42, p = 0.0040), and PRKN rs9355950*C (OR = 0.57, p = 0.0004). Through functional annotation, we found that all associated alleles, with the exception of PRKN rs9355950*C, were previously associated with differential gene expression levels in healthy individuals (mostly in skin and peripheral blood). Further functional validation of these genetic associations may contribute to the understanding of PF etiology and to the development of new drugs and therapeutic regimens for the disease.

Abstract
Background: Non-hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) is one of the most common and deadly cancers. There is limited analysis of gene-environment interactions for the risk of NHL. This study intends to explore the interactions between genetic variants and environmental factors, and how they contribute to NHL risk. Methods: A case-control study was performed in Shanghai, China. The cases were diagnosed between 2003 and 2008 with patients aged 18 years or older. Samples and SNPs which did not satisfy quality control were excluded from the analysis. Weighted and unweighted genetic risk scores (GRS) and environmental risk scores were generated using clustering analysis algorithm. Univariate and multivariable logistic regression analyses were conducted. Moreover, genetics and environment interactions (G × E) were tested on the NHL cases and controls. Results: After quality control, there are 22 SNPs, 11 environmental variables and 5 demographical variables to be explored. For logistic regression analyses, 5 SNPs (rs1800893, rs4251961, rs1800630, rs13306698, rs1799931) and environmental tobacco smoking showed statistically significant associations with the risk of NHL. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) was 10.82 (4.34–28.88) for rs13306698, 2.84 (1.66–4.95) for rs1800893, and 2.54 (1.43–4.58) for rs4251961. For G × E analysis, the interaction between smoking and dichotomized weighted GRS showed statistically significant association with NHL (OR = 0.23, 95% CI = [0.09, 0.61]). Conclusions: Several genetic and environmental risk factors and their interactions associated with the risk of NHL have been identified. Replication in other cohorts is needed to validate the results.
