Abstract
BACKGROUND Soft-robotic gloves with an assist-as-needed control have the ability to assist daily activities where needed, while stimulating active and highly functional movements within the user's possibilities. Employment of hand activities with glove support might act as training for unsupported hand function. OBJECTIVE To evaluate the therapeutic effect of a grip-supporting soft-robotic glove as an assistive device at home during daily activities. METHODS This multicentre intervention trial consisted of 3 pre-assessments (averaged if steady state = PRE), one post-assessment (POST), and one follow-up assessment (FU). Participants with chronic hand function limitations were included. Participants used the Carbonhand glove during six weeks in their home environment on their most affected hand. They were free to choose which activities to use the glove with and for how long. The primary outcome measure was grip strength, secondary outcome measures were pinch strength, hand function and glove use time. RESULTS 63 patients with limitations in hand function resulting from various disorders were included. Significant improvements (difference PRE-POST) were found for grip strength (+1.9 kg, CI 0.8 to 3.1; p = 0.002) and hand function, as measured by Jebson-Taylor Hand Function Test (-7.7 s, CI -13.4 to -1.9; p = 0.002) and Action Research Arm Test (+1.0 point, IQR 2.0; p≤0.001). Improvements persisted at FU. Pinch strength improved slightly in all fingers over six-week glove use, however these differences didn't achieve significance. Participants used the soft-robotic glove for a total average of 33.0 hours (SD 35.3), equivalent to 330 min/week (SD 354) or 47 min/day (SD 51). No serious adverse events occurred. CONCLUSION The present findings showed that six weeks use of a grip-supporting soft-robotic glove as an assistive device at home resulted in a therapeutic effect on unsupported grip strength and hand function. The glove use time also showed that this wearable, lightweight glove was able to assist participants with the performance of daily tasks for prolonged periods.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Loss of hand function causes severe limitations in activity in daily living. The hand-soft robot is one of the methods that has recently been growing to increase the patient's independence. The purpose of the present systematic review was to provide a classification, a comparison, and a design overview of mechanisms and the efficacy of the soft hand robots to help researchers approach this field. METHODS The literature research regarding such tools was conducted in PubMed, Google Scholar, Science Direct, and Cochrane Central Register for Controlled Trials. We included peer-reviewed studies that considered a soft robot glove as an assistive device to provide function. The two investigators screened the titles and abstracts, then independently reviewed the full-text articles. Disagreements about inclusion were resolved by consensus or a third reviewer. RESULTS A total of 15 articles were identified, describing 210 participants (23 healthy subjects). The tools were in three categories according to their actuation type (pneumatic system, cable-driven, another design). The most critical outcomes in studies included functional tasks (fourteen studies), grip strength (four studies), range of motion (ROM) (five studies), and user satisfaction (five studies). DISCUSSION Function and grip parameters are the most common critical parameters for tests of hand robots. Cable-driven transmission and soft pneumatic actuators are the most common choices for the actuation unit. Radder et al. study had the highest grade from other studies. That was the only RCT among studies. CONCLUSION Although few soft robotic gloves can be considered ready to reach the market, it seems these tools have the potential to be practical for people with a disability. But, we lack consistent evidence of comparing two or more soft robot gloves on the hand functions. Future research needs to assess the effect of soft robotic gloves on people with hand disorders with more populations.

Abstract
The term "Holstein-Lewis fracture" describes a spiral fracture that occurs in the shaft of the humerus at its distal third, which has been linked to radial nerve palsy in adults, and operative treatment is the preferred method of treating the trapped nerve at the fracture site. This paper describes a clinical case involving a 20-year-old male patient demonstrating a humeral fracture syndrome accompanied by complications associated with radial nerve palsy. After the necessary investigation, he was diagnosed with a Holstein-Lewis fracture with radial nerve paralysis; he underwent open reduction internal fixation (ORIF), after which he was referred to physical therapy. Developing a successful postoperative rehabilitation program that consists mostly of functional physical therapy interventions is essential for the treatment of this condition. Outcome measures like the Numerical Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) score, and Patient-Rated Wrist Evaluation (PRWE) score were recorded before and after rehabilitation, and pain reduction, improvement in strength, range of motion (ROM), grip strength, and activities of daily living (ADL) were found. The purpose of this case report is to present a comprehensive treatment plan that includes ROM exercises, cryotherapy, and strengthening of grip using a robotic glove for a patient who had a wrist drop and underwent ORIF surgery. This tailored intervention was effective in speeding up the return of functional abilities and improving function in ADLs.

Abstract
Functional electrical stimulation of the ankle dorsiflexor (DF-FES) may have advantages over ankle foot orthoses (AFOs) in managing pediatric cerebral palsy (CP). This study assessed the functional benefit and orthotic effect of DF-FES in children with hemiplegic CP. We conducted an open-label prospective study on children with hemiplegic CP ≥ 6 years who used DF-FES for five months. The functional benefit was assessed by repeated motor function tests and the measurement of ankle biomechanical parameters. Kinematic and spatiotemporal parameters were assessed by gait analysis after one and five months. The orthotic effect was defined by dorsiflexion ≥ 0° with DF-FES at either the mid or terminal swing. Among 26 eligible patients, 15 (median age 8.2 years, range 6-15.6) completed the study. After five months of DF-FES use, the results on the Community Balance and Mobility Scale improved, and the distance in the Six-Minute Walk Test decreased (six-point median difference, 95% CI (1.89, 8.1), -30 m, 95% CI (-83.67, -2.6), respectively, p < 0.05) compared to baseline. No significant changes were seen in biomechanical and kinematic parameters. Twelve patients (80%) who showed an orthotic effect at the final gait analysis experienced more supported walking over time, with a trend toward slower walking. We conclude that the continuous use of DF-FES increases postural control and may cause slower but more controlled gait.

Abstract
In an ongoing study, an assistive wearable soft-robotic glove is tested at home for 6 weeks by subjects with decreased handgrip strength, due to different hand injuries or diseases, to assess whether use of this assistive grip-supporting glove will result in improved hand strength/ function. An interim analysis of the available dataset of 46 participants showed that (unsupported) grip strength and hand function improved after using the soft-robotic glove as assistive aid during activities of daily living (ADLs) during 6 weeks at home. After glove use is ended, this is maintained for at least 4 weeks. Considering that in the current situation the analysis is underpowered, these interim results are promising for finding a clinical (therapeutic) effect of using a soft-robotic glove as assistance during ADLs. If this is the case, this might open up entirely new opportunities for extending rehabilitation into people's homes, while also providing them with assistance to directly support performance of daily activities. Such a combination is becoming available with the development of mature and user-friendly wearable soft-robotic devices. This would enable very high doses of training throughout the day, in the most functional, task-specific way possible, and possibly prevention of learned non-use.
