Abstract
OBJECTIVE: To compare the accuracy of an artificial intelligence chatbot to clinical practice guidelines (CPGs) recommendations for providing answers to complex clinical questions on lumbosacral radicular pain. DESIGN: Cross-sectional study. METHODS: We extracted recommendations from recent CPGs for diagnosing and treating lumbosacral radicular pain. Relative clinical questions were developed and queried to OpenAI's ChatGPT (GPT-3.5). We compared ChatGPT answers to CPGs recommendations by assessing the (1) internal consistency of ChatGPT answers by measuring the percentage of text wording similarity when a clinical question was posed 3 times, (2) reliability between 2 independent reviewers in grading ChatGPT answers, and (3) accuracy of ChatGPT answers compared to CPGs recommendations. Reliability was estimated using Fleiss' kappa (κ) coefficients, and accuracy by interobserver agreement as the frequency of the agreements among all judgments. RESULTS: We tested 9 clinical questions. The internal consistency of text ChatGPT answers was unacceptable across all 3 trials in all clinical questions (mean percentage of 49%, standard deviation of 15). Intrareliability (reviewer 1: κ = 0.90, standard error [SE] = 0.09; reviewer 2: κ = 0.90, SE = 0.10) and interreliability (κ = 0.85, SE = 0.15) between the 2 reviewers was "almost perfect." Accuracy between ChatGPT answers and CPGs recommendations was slight, demonstrating agreement in 33% of recommendations. CONCLUSION: ChatGPT performed poorly in internal consistency and accuracy of the indications generated compared to clinical practice guideline recommendations for lumbosacral radicular pain. Abstract
Background With the continuous advancement of digital technologies, electronic Personal Health Records (ePHR) offer end-users greater control and convenience over their health data. Although ePHR are perceived as innovative tools in medical services that provide patient-centered care and disease prevention, many system interfaces are inclined toward younger users, overlooking investigations pertinent to elderly users. Our objective is to uncover the preferences of the elderly for an ideal ePHR system interface. Materials and methods Relying on a literature review, we identified six interface attributes. Utilizing conjoint analysis, we constructed 16 representative design scenarios based on orthogonal design by combining different attribute levels. We invited 187 elderly participants to evaluate these scenarios. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0. The results indicate that among the ePHR interface design attributes, the elderly prioritize color attributes, followed by the notification method. Designs with contrasting color schemes, skeuomorphic design approaches, and icon-centric menu navigation with segmented layouts, and voice notifications when a message is received, are the most preferred interface design choices. Discussion This research elucidates the ideal interface design elements for ePHR as perceived by the elderly, offering valuable references for age-friendly design considerations in ePHR systems. Results Implementing these insights can aid in promoting mobile health services among the elderly demographic, enhancing their user experience in health management interfaces. This, in turn, fosters the widespread adoption of mobile health service technologies, further advancing the development of a healthy aging society.

Abstract
Internet-enabled resources could facilitate older adults' ability to live in the community longer, but studies have often overlooked how family caregivers utilize the internet to assist older care recipients. We examined whether different family-level arrangements of internet use may affect the risk of institutionalization among older adults. Using the National Health and Aging Trends Study (2015-2020) and National Study on Caregiving (2015), we estimated multinominal logistic regression and inverse-probability weighted Cox proportional hazard models to investigate the determinants of technological arrangements in 2015 (i.e., no internet use, only caregiver use, only care recipient use, both caregiver and care recipient internet use) and how they may affect the risk of moving to an assisted living or nursing facility between 2015 and 2020. The most prevalent technological arrangement in 2015 was the one where neither the care recipient nor their caregiver reported using the internet. Relatively disadvantaged older care recipients (e.g., people of color, fewer years of education, less income, worse cognitive functioning) and caregivers (e.g., older, fewer years of education) were more likely to be in a non-internet use arrangement. Compared to older adults in other categories, older adults who were internet users and had a family caregiver who also used the internet in their caregiving tasks had a much lower risk of relocation during the study period. Findings suggest that digital interventions aimed at serving the older adult population should assess the gap in access and utilization at a family level and consider the role of older adults' social partners.

Abstract
Background Monkeypox, as a significant public health concern, warrants a thorough investigation into public knowledge and understanding. Especially in non-endemic areas like China, exploring the factors contributing to knowledge and understanding gaps is crucial for effective disease management and prevention strategies. Objective This study aims to assess the level of monkeypox knowledge among the Chinese public and to identify the factors that influence this knowledge, particularly focusing on the knowledge gaps between different educational groups. Methods An online cross-sectional survey was conducted involving 720 participants stratified by age, between July and August 2023. The survey used a modified monkeypox knowledge questionnaire, and hierarchical regression analysis was employed to analyze the data. Results The study revealed a significant knowledge gap in the understanding of monkeypox among the Chinese public. Key factors influencing this knowledge included educational level, perceived relevance of information, interpersonal communication, and exposure to social media and official health websites. Notably, exposure to social media was found to widen the knowledge gap between different educational groups, with its positive impact more pronounced in individuals with at least a junior high school education. Conclusion The findings emphasize the need for varied communication strategies to effectively disseminate information about monkeypox and bridge the existing knowledge gaps. Tailoring health communication to different educational levels and utilizing diverse information sources are crucial for improving public understanding and containment of monkeypox.

Abstract
The primary objectives of medical safety education are to provide the public with essential knowledge about medications and to foster a scientific approach to drug usage. The era of using artificial intelligence to revolutionize medical safety education has already dawned, and ChatGPT and other generative artificial intelligence models have immense potential in this domain. Notably, they offer a wealth of knowledge, anonymity, continuous availability, and personalized services. However, the practical implementation of generative artificial intelligence models such as ChatGPT in medical safety education still faces several challenges, including concerns about the accuracy of information, legal responsibilities, and ethical obligations. Moving forward, it is crucial to intelligently upgrade ChatGPT by leveraging the strengths of existing medical practices. This task involves further integrating the model with real-life scenarios and proactively addressing ethical and security issues with the ultimate goal of providing the public with comprehensive, convenient, efficient, and personalized medical services.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Generation Z (born 1995-2010) members are digital residents who use technology and the internet more frequently than any previous generation to learn about their health. They are increasingly moving away from conventional methods of seeking health information as technology advances quickly and becomes more widely available, resulting in a more digitalized health care system. Similar to all groups, Generation Z has specific health care requirements and preferences, and their use of technology influences how they look for health information. However, they have often been overlooked in scholarly research. OBJECTIVE First, we aimed to identify the information-seeking preferences of older individuals and Generation Z (those between the ages of 18 and 26 years); second, we aimed to predict the effects of digital health literacy and health empowerment in both groups. We also aimed to identify factors that impact how both groups engage in digital health and remain in control of their own health. METHODS The Health Information National Trends Survey was adopted for further use in 2022. We analyzed 1862 valid data points by conducting a survey among Chinese respondents to address the research gap. A descriptive analysis, 2-tailed t test, and multiple linear regression were applied to the results. RESULTS When compared with previous generations, Generation Z respondents (995/1862, 53.44%) were more likely to use the internet to find out about health-related topics, whereas earlier generations relied more on traditional media and interpersonal contact. Web-based information-seeking behavior is predicted by digital health literacy (Generation Z: β=.192, P<.001; older population: β=.337, P<.001). While this was happening, only seeking health information from physicians positively predicted health empowerment (Generation Z: β=.070, P=.002; older population: β=.089, P<.001). Despite more frequent use of the internet to learn about their health, Generation Z showed lower levels of health empowerment and less desire to look for health information, overall. CONCLUSIONS This study examined and compared the health information-seeking behaviors of Generation Z and older individuals to improve their digital health literacy and health empowerment. The 2 groups demonstrated distinct preferences regarding their choice of information sources. Health empowerment and digital health literacy were both significantly related to information-seeking behaviors.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess frequently asked questions (FAQs) about mobility devices among older adults. MATERIALS AND METHODS We searched multiple terms on Google to find FAQs. Rothwell's classification, JAMA benchmark criteria, and Brief DISCERN were used to categorize and assess each entry. RESULTS Our search yielded 224 unique combinations of questions and linked answer sources. Viewing questions alone resulted in 214 unique FAQs, with the majority seeking factual information (130/214, 60.7%). Viewing website sources alone resulted in 175 unique answer sources, most of which were retail commercial sites (68/175, 38.9%) followed by non-retail commercial sites (65/175, 37.1%). Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between the JAMA benchmark scores by source type (p < 0.00010) and Brief DISCERN scores by source type (p = 0.0001). DISCUSSION Our findings suggest government, academic, and possibly non-retail commercial sources may provide better quality information about the use of mobility devices. We recommend medical providers be prepared to promote and provide quality resources on the risks, benefits, and proper techniques for using mobility devices.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES to assess agreement with COVID-19 disinformation among Portuguese-speaking individuals aged 50 years or older. METHODS a descriptive and analytical study involving 1,214 older adults born in Portuguese-speaking countries. Data collection occurred through online information mining to recognize COVID-19 and disinformation content, and the application of a structured questionnaire. RESULTS agreement with disinformation content was 65.2%. Residing outside Brazil is a protective factor for agreement with disinformation content, and those who believe in the truthfulness of the information sources they receive were 31% more likely to agree with disinformation content. CONCLUSIONS there is a high prevalence of disinformation among the older population in two Portuguese-speaking countries, which should raise the attention of healthcare professionals and guide coping strategies.

Abstract
This correlational study aimed to identify factors that contribute to changes in perceptions of digital technology among older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study utilized raw data from "The 2021 Report on the Digital Divide," a nationwide survey conducted in South Korea. Data were collected from 1171 older adults (aged ≥ 65 years) from September to December 2021. Multiple regression analyses were performed to examine the factors influencing changes in the perception of digital technology. Over one-third of the participants reported positive changes in their perceptions of digital technology during the pandemic. Key factors included self-efficacy for digital devices (β = 0.35, p < 0.001), digital networking (β = 0.11, p < 0.001), accessibility to digital devices (β = 0.10, p = 0.002), and perceived health (β = 0.08, p = 0.003). The expansion of digital technology owing to the pandemic has served as a catalyst for changes in older adults' perceptions. Healthcare providers and caregivers should consider digital technology perceptions and influencing factors when providing digital healthcare services. The results can be utilized to identify vulnerable older adults with negative perceptions of digital technology, thus minimizing disparities in access to digital healthcare services.

Abstract
Background. Men diagnosed with localized prostate cancer (LPC) often face a dilemma in choosing between available treatment options that have similar survival rates but for which the perceived advantages and disadvantages of each treatment differ. The Navigate decision aid was created to assist Australian men with LPC in making informed decisions about treatment that align with their personal values and preferences. Navigate presents current, unbiased information, including an interactive values clarification exercise. Objective. This study was a qualitative investigation of men's treatment decision making for LPC, and their experiences using the Navigate Web site, to identify areas for improvement and inform implementation. Methods. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 20 men diagnosed with LPC who completed the intervention arm of the Navigate randomized controlled trial. Interview transcripts were thematically analyzed. Results: Five main themes emerged: 1) diagnosis experiences varied, although men were strongly influenced by their clinician to make an early initial treatment decision; 2) men sought resources and support they trusted; 3) men valued Navigate's multiformatted content and design; 4) men suggested more content was needed on a) the diagnosis journey and b) new treatment updates; and 5) men identified design flaws in the values clarification exercise on Navigate but appreciated the tool being available. Conclusions. Specialist authority influenced men to make an early treatment decision. However, Navigate was helpful in supporting men's ongoing treatment decision making, particularly men on active surveillance who may face further treatment decisions if their cancer progresses. To gain trust and improve engagement from Navigate users, credentials and sources of information need to be prominent. Trustworthiness, timing of access, and the clinician's role in empowering men to use available decision aids are crucial elements to be considered when implementing Navigate in clinical settings. Highlights The Navigate decision aid Web site was created to help Australian men diagnosed with localized prostate cancer (LPC) make an informed decision about their treatment.Navigate was helpful in supporting men's ongoing treatment decision making for LPC.Men's treatment decision making for LPC was greatly influenced by perceived authority and trust in their clinician.Trustworthiness, timing of access, and the clinician's role in empowering men to use available decision aids are crucial.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION International travel to Japan increased steadily until the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak. Although international travel was curtailed worldwide due to the pandemic, the number of overseas visitors to Japan should increase again after the restrictions are lifted. We assessed the effect of a five-minute digital game on the knowledge of health information and the level of satisfaction with educational health resources of overseas visitors to Japan. METHODS We conducted a randomized controlled trial among 1062 previous and potential visitors to Japan utilizing an internet portal. We recruited previous and potential visitors to Japan from the internet portal sites of the UK, the US and Australia. We randomly allocated participants to two groups: an intervention group that played an animated game and a control group that viewed an online animation. All participants answered a self-administered questionnaire online from March 16 to 19, 2021. We assessed visitors' levels of health knowledge and satisfaction using the CSQ-8. We analyzed the data with a t test and the difference in differences test. Our RCT followed the SPIRIT guidelines. RESULTS Of the 1062 previous and potential visitors recruited via the three countries' internet portals (354 from each country), some had visited Japan previously (174 in the intervention group, 220 in the control group), while some were potential visitors to Japan (357 in the intervention group, 311 in the control group). Some had gathered health and safety information about Japan prior to this study (180 in the intervention group, 211 in the control group). Both groups improved their health information levels after the intervention. The level of satisfaction with health information in Japan was significantly increased in the intervention group (average difference of 4.5 points) compared to that in the control group (average difference of 3.9 points) (p < 0.05). Both groups' mean CSQ-8 scores increased significantly after the intervention (p < 0.001): from 23 to 28 in the intervention group and from 23 to 24 in the control group. CONCLUSIONS Our study introduced unique educational strategies using an online game to provide health and safety information to previous and potential visitors to Japan. The online game was a more effective way to increase satisfaction than the online animation about health information. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To provide an overview of studies that describe the preferred mode and format of delivery of patient education materials to older adults. METHODS A scoping review was used to identify relevant literature published between January 2010 and June 2021, with specific attention given to studies conducted in high income countries with similar health systems. RESULTS A total of 3245 titles were identified, and 20 met the inclusion criteria and were included in this scoping review. Older adults preferred written information that could be accessed via health professionals or downloaded online. Other key features were identified including logical layout, signposted information, larger text size, labelled visual aids, and use of images appropriate and relevant to the target group were preferred. Audio visual resources were also considered valuable when well designed. Formats for patient education such as apps, group classes and online courses were less popular with older adults. CONCLUSIONS Patient education materials for older adults should be carefully designed, with attention to layout and content. Older adults indicated a preference for hard copy handouts or in a format that can be downloaded. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS Regular engagement with older consumers about their preferences is important as technology for delivery of patient education materials evolve. Key features for specific attention during the design process include a logical layout (tested with consumers), signposted information, text size, labelled visual aids and appropriate images. The perspectives of other key groups of older adults such as those from minority populations or other disadvantaged groups are largely unexplored.

Abstract
Objectives: This study aims to generate a typology of Internet users, examine the association between this typology of Internet users and social network characteristics, and assess the moderating effect of rural-urban residence among older adults in China. Methods: Data were from the 2018 China Longitudinal Aging Social Survey. Latent class analysis and OLS regression with interaction terms were used. Results: Four types of Internet users were identified: Socializers, Social and Leisure Users, Leisure Users, and Advanced Users. Socializers were associated with larger and more supportive social networks, family networks, and friend networks than Leisure and Advanced Users. In addition, compared to their urban counterparts, older Internet users living in rural areas benefitted more from online social communication. Discussion:This study highlights the need to increase awareness among gerontological practitioners with respect to patterns of Internet use among older adults as a potential for enhancing their social well-being.

Abstract
This study examined the knowledge, misconceptions, and predictors of palliative care among older adults using nationally representative data. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted with 1,390 respondents (≥ 50 years) from cycle 2 of the 2018 Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS). Overall, 63.53% of older adults reported that they had never heard of palliative care. Among those who reported knowledgeable about palliative care, 33.33% thought palliative care is the same as hospice, and 41.42% automatically linked palliative care to death. Ordered logistic regression analysis revealed that online health information seeking behavior is a significant predictor of the level of knowledge about palliative care among older adults. Older adults who utilized the internet for health information were 2.16 (p < .001) times more likely to report being knowledgeable about palliative care than non-internet users. Findings from this study indicate that public health education efforts are needed to increase palliative care knowledge among older adults and the internet may be the key to improving health literacy in palliative care for them.

Abstract
Introduction Online health information seeking has been verified to play a crucial role in improving public health and has received close scholarly attention. However, the seeking behavior of older adults, especially the underlying mechanism through which they are motivated to seek health information online, remains unclear. This study addresses the issue by proposing a theoretical model leveraging social cognitive theory. Methods IT self-efficacy and IT innovativeness were identified as personal factors and professional support and social support were identified as environmental factors. We conducted a survey that included 347 older people in China and examined the research hypotheses with a structural equation model. Results IT self-efficacy and IT innovativeness facilitate older adults to seek health information online by increasing their perceived benefit of using the internet. Additionally, professional support and social support enhanced older adults' online seeking behavior by promoting their health awareness. We also found that perceived benefit displayed a stronger impact than health awareness on older adults' behavior related to searching for health information online. Conclusion This study reveals that IT self-efficacy, IT innovativeness, professional support, and social support will promote older adults to seek health information online by enhancing their health awareness and perceived benefit. The findings of this study provide significant theoretical and practical implications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Internet is considered an important channel for providing health information to older adults. We developed an intervention to improve eHealth literacy in older adults according to the information-motivation-behavioral skills (IMB) theory and Intervention Mapping. This study aimed to analyze the effect of a developed intervention on information, motivation, behavioral skills, and behaviors related to eHealth information in older adults. METHODS Forty-six older adults over the age of 65 were recruited from two senior welfare centers in a city in South Korea. We divided the participants into four groups and conducted one intervention per group from March to December 2019. One intervention consisted of 5 sessions and was performed once a week (2 h/1 time) for 5 weeks, culminating in a total lecture time of 10 h. One lecture instructor and two assistant instructors supported the participants in the computer practices. RESULTS Participants' computer/web knowledge, perceived ease of use, perceived enjoyment, and attitude toward eHealth information showed statistically significant increases. The eHealth literacy efficacy score, searching performance score, and understanding score were also significantly increased. However, there was no significant difference in perceived usefulness. CONCLUSION The application of the current theory-based methodology can improve the quality of research in eHealth literacy. Additionally, various interventions should be developed and continuously applied to improve eHealth literacy among older adults.

Abstract
Social media provide users with multi-directional dialogue for creating and sharing health information that can effectively promote the self-management of health. In regard to the 'greying' trend in social media, most researchers have studied the health-related social media (HRSM) acceptance status and use behavior of middle-aged and elderly people, and have explored the role of HRSM in this group. However, the continuous participation of users is the key to the successful operation of HRSM, and is an essential prerequisite for the subsequent HRSM behavior habits of middle-aged and elderly people. Therefore, we aimed to explore what motivations drive the first use of HRSM among middle-aged and older adults, and the impact of their perception of HRSM, after personal use, on their intention to use it continually. In the study, we used the partial least squares structural equation model (PLS-SEM) to analyze data collected from online questionnaires. The results showed that a self-protection motivation and a social motivation promoted the initial participation of middle-aged and elderly individuals. In addition, these people experienced deeper levels of perceived usefulness and perceived entertainment after their initial participation. The results also revealed that these two perceptions could positively influence middle-aged and elderly individuals' intention to continue with their participation. Our findings should help service platforms to better understand the needs of middle-aged and elderly users. This would help researchers and practitioners to gain a more complete understanding of the motivation of middle-aged and elderly people for participating in HRSM, and the related impacts this may have.

Abstract
Background
Health information seeking behavior (HISB) is a prevalent research topic. However, little is known about sociodemographic factors of HISB in China. This study aimed to examine the HISB of urban patients in China and identify predictors of source preference, online information seeking, and the timing of online seeking.
Methods
Based on the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS), this study conducted a cross-sectional survey of 1653 participants in different types of hospitals in 3 cities of different income levels within Zhejiang Province, China. Binary logistic regression analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis were used to identify predictors of source preference, online medical information seeking, and the timing of online seeking for urban patients.
Results
The offline was the primary source of medical information for 58.61% of adult urban patients, while 78.19% had ever sought medical information online. 36.81% of online medical information seekers sought information before the medical visit, 8.65% sought information after the visit, and 54.54% sought information before and after the visit. China’s urban patients with higher education levels, higher income levels, young, active in internet use, and living in high-income cities were more likely to be active online medical information seekers (using the internet as the primary source) and online medical information seekers (having ever sought medical information online). Except for gender and age, most sociodemographic characteristics were not significantly associated with the timing of online medical information seeking.
Conclusions
Significant predictors of active online medical information seekers and online medical information seekers in China were almost the same. Regional economic development had a significant direct impact on medical information seekers. Most sociodemographic characteristics were not significantly associated with the timing of online medical information seeking. The findings of this study imply that China’s health information technology industry has Chinese characteristics.

Abstract
Objective To collect health and wellness coaching (HWC) literature related to treatment of obesity and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) for systematic assessment using a novel rubric. Data Source Pubmed, CINAHL, and PsychInfo Study Inclusion and Exclusion Given 282 articles retrieved, only randomized and controlled trials meeting a HWC criteria-based definition were included; studies with intervention <4 months or <4 sessions were excluded. Data Extraction Rubric assessment required details of two theoretical frameworks (i.e., study design and HWC intervention design) be extracted from each included paper. Data Synthesis Data were derived from a 28-item rubric querying items such as sampling characteristics, statistical methods, coach characteristics, HWC strategy, and intervention fidelity. Results 29 articles were reviewed. Inter-rater rubric scoring yielded high intraclass correlation (r = .85). Rubric assessment of HWC literature resulted in moderate scores (56.7%), with study design scoring higher than intervention design; within intervention design, T2D studies scored higher than obesity. Conclusions A novel research design rubric is presented and successfully applied to assess HWC research related to treatment of obesity and T2D. Most studies reported beneficial clinical findings; however, rubric results revealed moderate scores for study and intervention design. Implications for future HWC research are discussed.

Abstract
Inappropriate information on a deadly and rare disease can make people vulnerable to problematic decisions, leading to irreversible bad outcomes. This study explored online information exchanges on pancreatic cancer. We collected 35,596 questions and 83,888 answers related to pancreatic cancer from January 1, 2003 to May 31, 2020, from Naver, the most popular Korean web portal. We also collected 8495 news articles related to pancreatic cancer during the same period. The study methods employed were structural topic modeling, keyword frequency analysis, and qualitative coding of medical professionals. The number of questions and news articles increased over time. In Naver's questions, topics on symptoms and diagnostic tests regarding pancreatic cancer increased in proportion. The news topics on new technologies related to pancreatic cancer from various companies increased as well. The use of words related to back pain-which is not an important early symptom in pancreatic cancer-and biomarker tests using blood increased over time in Naver's questions. Based on 100 question samples related to symptoms and diagnostic tests and an analysis of the threaded answers' appropriateness, there was considerable misinformation and commercialized information in both categories.

Abstract
In the context of the COVID-19 global pandemic, promoting influenza knowledge and vaccine helps reduce the risk of dual pandemics and relieve the pressure on healthcare systems. Due to the low rate of influenza vaccination in China, we conducted a cross-sectional survey to investigate whether a knowledge gap regarding influenza and influenza vaccine exists between Chinese groups of different socioeconomic statuses and then explore the possible factors influencing knowledge level. A total of 951 valid questionnaires were collected online in this study. Variance analysis shows a knowledge gap regarding influenza and influenza vaccination between different socioeconomic status groups. Correlation analysis shows that internet media, social media, public communication, and interpersonal communication are positively associated with the knowledge level. Multilevel regression analysis shows a significant interaction between internet media and educational level. This study finds that internet media use helps narrow the knowledge gap between groups with different education levels. Abstract
IMPORTANCE Apical pelvic organ prolapse is a common condition that affects women. Currently, sacrocolpopexy is considered the criterion standard surgical treatment, with an increasing preference for minimally invasive techniques. OBJECTIVE In this study, the content and readability of select internet pages describing robotic and laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy were evaluated. STUDY DESIGN Using an online key word planner, the phrases "robotic sacrocolpopexy" and "laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy" were determined to be the most popular search terms. These terms were systematically browsed in incognito mode in 3 of the most popular web search engines: Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Links that were nontext primary, duplicate, irrelevant, and non-English were excluded. The Flesch-Kincaid Grade Level and Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease indices were used to assess readability. RESULTS The average readability of all sites was 12.9, requiring at least a 12th-grade reading level, which is significantly higher than the recommended American Medical Association/National Institutes of Health (AMA/NIH) level of sixth-grade or below. One hundred percent of all analyzed sites were above this recommended sixth-grade reading level. There was no significant difference between mean grade level or reading ease score from the type of web source (P = 0.32 and 0.34, respectively), approach of surgery (P = 0.91, 0.70), or specialty (P = 0.48, 0.36). CONCLUSIONS Almost all websites require at least a high school education to properly comprehend, regardless of source or specialty. It is important that health care providers be aware of available information, so they may direct patients to specific resources that are personally validated or provide in-office materials at an appropriate reading level.

Abstract
This review aims to identify, appraise, and synthesize research evidence of the association between electronic health (eHealth) literacy and health outcomes in older adults. English-written articles that presented the relationships between eHealth literacy and health-related outcomes in older adults were identified by searching five scientific databases (Web of Science, PubMed, Cochrane Library, APA PsycInfo, and EMBASE) hand-searching reference lists. Searches yielded 2993 studies after duplicates were removed, of which 24 publications were included in the final review. eHealth literacy was relatively low in older adults, and the eHealth Literacy Scale, developed by Norman and Skinner in 2006, was the most frequently used instrument in the included studies (21/24, 87.5%). The health-related outcomes associated with eHealth literacy were grouped into four categories: physical, behavioral, psychosocial, and cognitive. For behavioral (e.g., health-promoting behaviors, self-care, and medication adherence) and cognitive (e.g., health knowledge and health decision making) outcomes, the evidence was mostly consistent that eHealth literacy was positively associated with better outcomes. For physical (e.g., health-related quality of life) and psychosocial outcomes (e.g., anxiety and self-efficacy), the associations were less consistent, with some studies showing significant associations while others showed no associations. Most included studies were assessed as moderate quality. Overall, higher eHealth literacy is associated with more positive health behaviors and better health knowledge and attitude in older adults, however, the associations with some physical and psychosocial outcomes are less consistent. Clarifying the pathways of the relationships between eHealth literacy and some health-related outcomes is needed for further exploring their underlying mechanisms.

Abstract
We examine the relationship between Internet-based health information seeking and the demand for physician services, using data collected from the 28 European Union states in 2014. Unlike previous research, our analysis distinguishes seekers of health information into those who use only non-Internet sources and those who use the Internet and possibly non-Internet sources. By comparing the frequencies of physician visits among the two groups of health information seekers and non-seekers, we infer the net association between online health information and the demand for physician services while partially controlling for the effects of concurrent seeking of offline health information. The following are the two key findings: (1) individuals' health status and sociodemographic factors shape online and offline health information seeking patterns in similar ways; and (2) the demand for physician services is positively associated with offline health information seeking and not with online health information. The net association with online health information would be even smaller after controlling for the effect of concurrent offline health information seeking. These results suggest that extending the availability of online health information would potentially reinforce the unequal access to health information, which could create greater variation in individuals' health management skills and benefits from health care in the long term. However, it would be associated with little or no increase in the demand for physician services, unlike the implications of previous research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND For patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, a web-based platform CMyLife was developed. Its aim is to enhance patient empowerment, by adequate information provision, among others. Before evaluating its effect, information provision and needs in current care were assessed. OBJECTIVE To assess patients' evaluation of received information and information needs before CMyLife utilization and whether this information source is used correspondingly. Additionally, we explored predicting patient factors in information perception. PATIENT INVOLVEMENT CMyLife platform was developed with active patient participation. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional survey among 203 CML patients before launch of the CMyLife platform, using validated questionnaires on information provision and predictive factors. We focused on website utilization during the first 3 years, using Google Analytics. Regression analyses were performed to determine influence of patient factors on information perception. RESULTS Global perceived information provision was scored 42.8 (0-100). Information on other services such as rehabilitation and psychological support, and effects of treatment on sexuality showed room for improvement. One out of 3 knew where to find useful health information online. But more information was desired by 36% of them. Age ≥65 years, time since diagnosis and low education were positively associated with this need. Pages on medication and side effects were visited the most. DISCUSSION To fill the gap in perceived provision and needs, information should be adjusted more to the individual in content, manner and timing. Age, time since diagnosis, and educational level are of influence in perceived information, and specific needs within these groups should be further explored. PRACTICAL VALUE CMyLife provides reliable and up-to-date information for low eHealth literacy skilled patients concerning multiple topics indicated by patients.

Abstract
The increased prevalence of voice search presents opportunities to address consumer challenges accessing online health information. However, it is essential to understand how users' perceptions of voice affect their search processes for health information, concerns, and different scenarios for using voice for health information tasks. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 16 younger (18-25) and older (60-64) adult participants to understand and compare their perceptions of using voice and text-based search for non-health-related and health-related tasks. While most participants preferred traditional text search, younger adults were not inclined to use voice search for health information due to concerns about privacy, credibility, and perceived efficiency in filtering results. Older adults found voice search potentially beneficial for reducing manual query generation burdens; however, some were unsure of how to use the technology effectively. We provide a set of considerations to address concerns about voice search for health information tasks in the future.

Abstract
Background With the world’s population aging, more health-conscious older adults are seeking health information to make better-informed health decisions. The rapid growth of the internet has empowered older adults to access web-based health information sources. However, research explicitly exploring older adults’ online health information seeking (OHIS) behavior is still underway. Objective This systematic scoping review aims to understand older adults’ OHIS and answer four research questions: (1) What types of health information do older adults seek and where do they seek health information on the internet? (2) What are the factors that influence older adults’ OHIS? (3) What are the barriers to older adults’ OHIS? (4) How can we intervene and support older adults’ OHIS? Methods A comprehensive literature search was performed in November 2020, involving the following academic databases: Web of Science; Cochrane Library database; PubMed; MEDLINE; CINAHL Plus; APA PsycINFO; Library and Information Science Source; Library, Information Science and Technology Abstracts; Psychology and Behavioral Sciences Collection; Communication & Mass Media Complete; ABI/INFORM; and ACM Digital Library. The initial search identified 8047 publications through database search strategies. After the removal of duplicates, a data set consisting of 5949 publications was obtained for screening. Among these, 75 articles met the inclusion criteria. Qualitative content analysis was performed to identify themes related to the research questions. Results The results suggest that older adults seek 10 types of health information from 6 types of internet-based information sources and that 2 main categories of influencing factors, individual-related and source-related, impact older adults’ OHIS. Moreover, the results reveal that in their OHIS, older adults confront 3 types of barriers, namely individual, social, and those related to information and communication technologies. Some intervention programs based on educational training workshops have been created to intervene and support older adults’ OHIS. Conclusions Although OHIS has become increasingly common among older adults, the review reveals that older adults’ OHIS behavior is not adequately investigated. The findings suggest that more studies are needed to understand older adults’ OHIS behaviors and better support their medical and health decisions in OHIS. Based on the results, the review proposes multiple objectives for future studies, including (1) more investigations on the OHIS behavior of older adults above 85 years; (2) conducting more longitudinal, action research, and mixed methods studies; (3) elaboration of the mobile context and cross-platform scenario of older adults’ OHIS; (4) facilitating older adults’ OHIS by explicating technology affordance; and (5) promoting and measuring the performance of OHIS interventions for older adults.

Abstract
Under the background of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), online health information seeking has become one of the most important information needs of the public and even the only channel for health information seeking in this special period. A review of the research on online health information-seeking behavior will help give full play to the previous academic research, further emphasize the necessity of online health information-seeking research, and promote the development of research in this field. This study firstly presents the research overview of online health information-seeking behavior by using the informetric method. Secondly, an overview is carried out from the perspective of online health information platforms, groups, quality, satisfaction, etc., to explore the influencing factors and their relationships in the process of online health information seeking. On this basis, the existing behavioral models are integrated and sorted out to build a new behavioral theoretical model in line with the current online health information seeking.

Abstract
Natural language undergoes significant transformation from the domain of specialized research to general news intended for wider consumption. This transition makes the information vulnerable to misinterpretation, misrepresentation, and incorrect attribution, all of which may be difficult to identify without adequate domain knowledge and may exist even in the presence of explicit citations. Moreover, newswire articles seldom provide a precise correspondence between a specific claim and its origin, making it harder to identify which claims, if any, reflect the original findings. For instance, an article stating "Flagellin shows therapeutic potential with H3N2, known as Aussie Flu." contains two claims ("Flagellin ... H3N2," and "H3N2, known as Aussie Flu") that may be true or false independent of each other, and it is prima facie unclear which claims, if any, are supported by the cited research. We build a dataset of sentences from medical news along with the sources from peer-reviewed medical research journals they cite. We use these data to study what a general reader perceives to be true, and how to verify the scientific source of claims. Unlike existing datasets, this captures the metamorphosis of information across two genres with disparate readership and vastly different vocabularies and presents the first empirical study of health-related fact-checking across them.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess the information-seeking behavior about COVID-19 among older adults in northern Iran. Two hundred-fifty three older adults living in Rasht, northern Iran, were enrolled in a cross-sectional study. Most older adults obtained information about COVID-19 from television, friends, and acquaintances. They relied less on special patient associations and the Ministry of Health telephone system. The use of social networks, the Ministry of Health telephone system, the Ministry of Health text message system, and friends and acquaintances for obtaining information about COVID-19 were significantly higher in people aged 60 to 70 years than in people aged >70 years. The use of newspapers/magazines to get information about COVID-19 was significantly higher in men than women. The use of websites, social networks, physicians, other health care workers, friends and acquaintances, newspapers/magazines, and special patients' associations for obtaining information about COVID-19 was significantly higher in people with tertiary education than in others. Older adults were more satisfied receiving information about COVID-19 from nurses and physicians. Therefore, it is recommended that policymakers and health managers pay special attention to developing health programs and social media programing to educate older adults about COVID-19 and access to the right media for accurate information.

Abstract
Objective To assess preferred sources of information for seeking physical activity (PA), and how PA information seeking may contribute to participation in a campus PA program. Participants: Students attending a large, Western Canadian university between April 2015 and April 2018. Methods: Secondary analysis of an annual campus-wide survey. Results: Students sought PA information for general health. Females sought information about weight loss for appearances; males sought information for muscle gain for appearance. Internet and friends were primary sources of PA information. Regression analysis indicated females 2.49 (95% CI 1.98-3.13), domestic students 2.86, 95% CI (2.04-4.02), and first year students 24.88, 95% CI (18.12-34.17) were most likely to participate in a campus PA program. Only health reasons significantly contributed to participation 1.42, 95% CI (1.06-1.89). Conclusions: Emerging adults attending university may benefit from PA promotion that makes use of their preferred information sources.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of diabetes and the use of electronic health (eHealth) are increasing. Lifestyle changes in a positive direction may reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with diabetes. The main objective of this study was to test the association between lifestyle changes based on online information seeking and discussing the information with a doctor. METHODS In this cross-sectional study we used e-mail survey data from 1250 members of The Norwegian Diabetes Association, collected in 2018. Included in the analyses were 847 men and women aged 18 to 89 years diagnosed with diabetes and who reported use of eHealth within the previous year. We used descriptive statistics to estimate lifestyle changes based on information from the internet. Logistic regressions were used to estimate the associations between lifestyle changes after online information seeking and discussing the information with a doctor. Analyses were adjusted for gender, age, education, and self-rated health. RESULTS Lifestyle changes accomplished after online information seeking was reported by 46.9% (397/847) of the participants. The odds of changing lifestyle were more than doubled for those who had discussed information from the internet with a doctor (odds ratio 2.54, confidence interval 1.90-3.40). The odds of lifestyle changes were lower in the age groups 30-39 years and 60 years and over, compared to those aged 18-29 years (the reference group). Lifestyle changes were not associated with gender, education, or self-rated health. CONCLUSIONS Our findings indicate that health-care professionals can play an important role in lifestyle changes additional to health-advice found on the internet. This study underlines the importance of easily accessible high-quality online information, as well as the importance of making room for discussing lifestyle in the clinical encounter.

Knowledge translation strategies for sharing evidence-based health information with older adults and their caregivers: findings from a persona-scenario method. BMC Geriatr 2021; 21:665. Abstract
Background By understanding the information seeking behaviors of older adults, we can better develop or iterate effective information technologies, such as the McMaster Optimal Aging Portal, that provide evidence-based health information to the public. This paper reports health-related information seeking and searching behaviours and provides strategies for effective knowledge translation (KT) to increase awareness and use of reliable health information. Methods We conducted a qualitative study with eighteen older adults using the persona-scenario method, whereby participants created personas and scenarios describing older adults seeking health information. Scenarios were analyzed using a two-phase inductive qualitative approach, with the personas as context. From the findings related to pathways of engaging with health information, we identified targeted KT strategies to raise awareness and uptake of evidence-based information resources. Results Twelve women and six men, 60 to 81 years of age, participated. In pairs, they created twelve personas that captured rural and urban, male and female, and immigrant perspectives. Some scenarios described older adults who did not engage directly with technology, but rather accessed information indirectly through other sources or preferred nondigital modes of delivery. Two major themes regarding KT considerations were identified: connecting to information via other people and personal venues (people included healthcare professionals, librarians, and personal networks; personal venues included clinics, libraries, pharmacies, and community gatherings); and health information delivery formats, (e.g., printed and multimedia formats for web-based resources). For each theme, and any identified subthemes, corresponding sets of suggested KT strategies are presented. Conclusions Our findings underline the importance of people, venues, and formats in the actions of older adults seeking trusted health information and highlight the need for enhanced KT strategies to share information across personal and professional networks of older adults. KT strategies that could be employed by organizations or communities sharing evidence-based, reliable health information include combinations of educational outreach and materials, decision support tools, small group sessions, publicity campaigns, champions/opinion leaders, and conferences. Abstract
BACKGROUND Postoperative complications contribute to unplanned hospital readmissions, reoperations, and increased mortality for surgical patients. Discharge education for general surgical patients is often inadequate, and challenged by organizational, clinician and patient factors. PURPOSE This research describes the development of the web-based discharge education intervention to improve patients' knowledge, skills, and confidence in self-managing their recovery after general surgery. METHODS The intervention was informed by the UK Medical Research Council guidance for developing and evaluating complex interventions and Knowledge-to-Action framework, consisting of four iterative stages. Stakeholder engagement was undertaken throughout the development process and a logic model was utilized to map the working mechanism of the intervention. The concept of patient activation and Knowles adult learning theory underpinned the development process. RESULTS The literature review and stakeholders' engagement in qualitative interviews and a series of meetings resulted in a web-based discharge education program with three different components: (1) post general surgery warning signs; (2) post general surgery everyday care instructions; and (3) animation video on wound potential wound complications. CONCLUSION The web-based discharge education was developed according to the needs and preferences of healthcare providers and general surgical patients. Despite the rigorous and systematic approach used to develop the intervention, its effectiveness requires testing. CLINICAL RELEVANCE This comprehensive iterative approach serves as a guide for others planning web-based interventions designed for surgical patients and the research approach used may inform those developing web-based interventions for other patient groups.

Abstract
Objetivo: Explorar y comprender necesidades, expectativas y valoración de la calidad desde el punto de vista de los pacientes cuando buscan información sobre salud en internet.
Diseño: investigación cualitativa con grupos focales.
Emplazamiento: Centro de Salud Profesor Jesús Marín, Molina de Segura. Región de Murcia.
Participantes: tres grupos focales. Número = 17 participantes, 11 mujeres y 6 hombres, de entre 24 y 55 años, que habían usado recientemente internet para buscar información sobre salud.
Método: muestreo de conveniencia con cuotas por edad y sexo. Grabación y transcripción de las discusiones grupales. Análisis de texto mediante segmentación, categorización e interpretación de los discursos. Triangulación por varios investigadores.
Resultados: cuando los pacientes usan internet como fuente de información, valoran la accesibilidad, inmediatez y exhaustividad, así como la autonomía y el poder que les proporciona en su relación con el sistema sanitario. Los procesos de búsqueda son sencillos, breves, muy específicos y habitualmente se limitan a los resultados de la primera pantalla. Entre los criterios para seleccionar unas páginas web frente a otras, destacan su comprensibilidad, diseño y ausencia de publicidad. Para valorar la fiabilidad de la información, los pacientes utilizan como estrategias el contraste entre diversas fuentes y la intuición.
Conclusiones: internet satisface necesidades no solo de información, sino de apoyo emocional y sitúa a los pacientes en un plano de igualdad con los profesionales. Para valorar la calidad y fiabilidad de la información encontrada, se utilizan criterios y estrategias que no coinciden con los que definen los profesionales. Globalmente, la experiencia de buscar en internet información sanitaria se percibe como muy positiva.

Abstract
This article describes the use of a participatory action research (PAR) approach to developing a self-management resource for persons living with dementia and care partners. Despite growing evidence that persons with dementia are able to contribute in meaningful ways to decision-making about their care and life preferences, few opportunities exist for them to participate in the design of resources and services meant for them. There is also a need to support the self-management of persons living with dementia with the provision of accurate, high quality, user-friendly information. The Living Well with Dementia resource was developed through a partnership with persons with dementia, family members, Alzheimer Society representatives, primary care providers, and researchers. The methods used in the development of this resource are outlined in six steps employed in this process, from establishment of a PAR team to final resource creation. Informed by a whole systems approach, the resource brings together essential components of self-management into a comprehensive system of care and support for living. It empowers users to be active participants in the application of new knowledge to their lives. Better self-management has important implications for access to health care and quality of life for persons with dementia and care partners.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The uptake of and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation remain suboptimal despite its apparent health benefits in modifying risk factors and slowing disease progression. eHealth refers to the use of information and communication technologies for health-related purposes. It is a promising approach for improving participation in cardiac rehabilitation by enabling instant contact, hypermedia information delivery, technology-monitored functionalities and individualised progress monitoring. AIMS To evaluate the effects of a nurse-led eHealth cardiac rehabilitation (NeCR) system on health behaviours, cardiac self-efficacy, anxiety and depression, health-related quality of life, risk parameters and unplanned use of care services for people with coronary heart disease. DESIGN A single-blinded randomised controlled trial design was used. METHODS The study randomly assigned 146 patients hospitalised for coronary heart disease to receive either the NeCR intervention or the usual care. Underpinned by social cognitive theory, the intervention commenced before hospital discharge with an in-person session by the nurse to identify individualised self-care needs, set goals and develop an action plan to enhance behavioural risk factor modification and orientate the patient to the use of the information and communication technology platform for cardiac rehabilitation. After discharge, the e-platform helped patients gain knowledge of disease management and monitor goal attainment for health behavioural changes. The nurse provided feedback on the patients' goal attainment and lifestyle modifications on a weekly basis in a small group format through the WeChat platform, thus also mobilising peer influence. Data for lifestyle behaviours, physiological risk parameters and clinical outcomes were collected at baseline and at 6 and 12 weeks post-intervention. RESULTS At 6 weeks post-intervention, participants in the intervention group showed significant improvement in the number of steps/day (β = 2628.48, p = .022), the number of minutes/week sitting (β = -640.30, p = .006) and their health-promoting lifestyle profile (β = 25.17, p < .001) compared with the control group. Improvements in the number of steps/day (β = 2520.00, p = .006), the number of minutes/week sitting (β = -719.73, p = .004) and health-promoting lifestyle (β = 16.09, p < .001) were sustained until the 12-week post-intervention endpoint. Moreover, participants showed significantly greater improvement in self-efficacy (β = 0.61, p = .005) and health-related quality of life (mean difference = 0.56, p < .001) than the control group at the study endpoint. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study demonstrate the effectiveness of the NeCR intervention in modifying behavioural risk factors and improving health-related quality of life. These findings also provide insights into the application of eHealth nursing interventions to enhance the rehabilitation of patients with coronary heart disease. TRIAL REGISTRATION ChiCTR1800020411.

Abstract
The purpose of the current study was to compare the factors associated with adults' eHealth literacy, which is vital for health consumers. A secondary data analysis was conducted with data collected from November 2017 to February 2018 for a project on the development of a Korean version of the eHealth Literacy Scale. Participants were recruited through an online survey for young adults (n = 210, mean age = 25.5 [SD = 4.7] years) and a face-to-face survey for older adults (n = 187, mean age = 73.2 [SD = 4.8] years). Hierarchical multiple regression analyses were used to analyze data and determine eHealth literacy predictors. Older adults held more positive attitudes toward internet health information than young adults (mean = 16.49 [SD = 2.54] and 17.04 [SD = 2.41], respectively; p = 0.029); however, eHealth literacy levels were comparable (mean = 30.50 [SD = 4.62] and 30.95 [SD = 4.17], respectively; p = 0.305). Attitude toward internet health information was a significant predictor of eHealth literacy in both groups, and age was only a predictor among young adults. These results elucidate predictors of eHealth literacy and inform strategies to improve eHealth literacy among young and older adults. [Journal of Gerontological Nursing, 46(8), 46-56.].

Abstract
Background There is a growing trend concerning the use of information and communication technologies (ICT) for seeking health-related information such as information on medications and side effects. However, people looking online for health information cannot always judge the credibility of the information. Objective(s) This study aimed to describe patients' and pharmacists' experience using an asynchronous teleconsultation platform entitled “Ask Your Pharmacist” (AYP) and gather their perspectives and those of various healthcare and social services professionals providing primary care. Methods We performed semi-structured individual interviews over the telephone with patients having used the platform, pharmacists providing teleconsultation services on the platform, and various professionals delivering healthcare and psychosocial services to ambulatory patients. The questions explored specific themes, such as the perceived utility and impacts of the platform. We transcribed the interviews and performed a content analysis. Results We interviewed eight patients, six AYP pharmacists, and 15 healthcare and social services professionals. Participants perceived that the platform was simple to use and accessible. They also perceived that AYP promoted the visibility and the value of pharmacists' services. Some constraints were also shared, notably regarding questions requiring immediate attention or about complex situations. Conclusions The experience and perspectives of users and non-users of the AYP platform are mostly positive, but concerns were also raised regarding patients' safety. Results suggest that AYP could be a complementary tool to offer to ambulatory patients for simple, general and non-urgent problems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The plethora of information in the contemporary digital age is enormous and beyond the capability of the average person to process all the information received. During the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, huge amount of information is increasingly available in digital information sources and overwhelms the average person. The purpose of this research was to investigate public's information seeking behavior on COVID-19 in Greece. METHOD The study was conducted through a web-based survey, facilitated by the use of questionnaire posted on the Google Forms platform. The questionnaire consisted of closed-ended, 7-point Likert scale questions and multiple choice questions and was distributed to all over Greek Regions to almost 3.000 recipients, during the implementation of restrictive measures against the COVID-19 outbreak in Spring 2020. The data collected were subjected to a descriptive statistical analysis. The median was used to present the results. In order to perform analysis between genders, as well as age groups, the non-parametric criteria Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis were applied to determine the existence of differences in participants' beliefs. RESULTS Responses by 776 individuals were obtained. Individuals dedicated up to 2 h per day to be informed on COVID-19. Television, electronic press and news websites were reported by the participants as more reliable than social media, in obtaining information on COVID-19. Respondents paid attention to official sources of information (Ministry of Health, Civil Protection etc.). Family and friends played an additional role in the participants' information on COVID-19, while the personal doctor, other health workers and pharmacists did not appear to be most preferred sources of information on COVID-19. Participants' most common information seeking strategy in digital environment was keyword searching. Unreliable information, fake news and information overload were the most common difficulties that the participants encountered seeking information on COVID-19. The respondents' views seemed to differ significantly among age groups. The older the participants, the more often they were informed by television (p < 0.001) and the less often by the internet (p < 0.001). Females appear to use more frequently internet (p < 0.001) and social media (p = 0.001) out of habit and visit more often the Ministry of Health (p < 0.001) and the Civil Protection (p=0.005) websites, compared to males. Most of the participants seemed to worry about the fake news phenomenon and agreed that fake news on COVID-19 is being spread in the media and especially social networks. CONCLUSION The study revealed that, during the COVID-19 pandemic in Greece, participants obtained information about the disease mainly by television, electronic press and news websites. On the contrary, the limited use of social media demonstrates the participants awareness of the spread of fake news on social media. This observed information seeking behavior might has contributed to individuals' acceptance of the necessary behavioral changes that had led to the Greek success story in preventing spread of the disease.

Abstract
Background: Today the internet is a major source of health information, and younger generations have more confidence in their digital information seeking skills and awareness of online resources than older generations. Older generations, however, are more in demand of health services. The aim of our study was to explore these generational differences as related to self-perceived eHealth literacy and health care system utilization. Methods: A cross-sectional survey study with 522 subjects was done in Hungary. Every subject belonged to one of four generations (Baby boomers, X, Y, and Z). The Web-based survey was designed and tested in English-speaking countries and translated into Hungarian for the present study. Variables include Internet health information seeking, eHealth literacy (measured by eHeals score), the self-perceived gain in empowerment by that information, and the number of health care appointments. One-way ANOVA was used for comparing the scores of the generations, and correlational and linear regression analysis was employed within the generations for further data analysis. Results: We found significant differences among the generations in eHealth literacy as well as in the self-perceived gain in empowerment: while Boomers were the generation with the lowest eHeals scores, they showed the highest empowerment. Internet health information seeking behavior showed no differences. While subjects who use the Internet more frequently to search for health information have worse self-rated health status, the ones with higher eHeals scores report better subjective health status. We also identified the associations of the above variables within the older generations (Boomers and X) with the frequency of using health-care services: within the generation of Boomers the number of health care appointments was only associated with Internet health information seeking, while in Generation X with eHeals. Conclusions: Baby boomers seek Internet health information as often as the younger generations, which provides a solid motivation for developing their eHealth literacy skills. We find it crucial to plan the Hungarian health promotion programmes utilizing this high frequency of Internet health information seeking, since the eHealth literacy skills of older generations have an effect on their subjective health status, and they are the most capable of applying information in making decisions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We examined the potential of conversational agents (CAs) to support older adults' self-care related to chronic illness in light of lessons learned from decades of pedagogical agent research, which investigates the impact and efficacy of CAs for a wide range of learners. BACKGROUND The role of CAs in education (i.e., pedagogical agents) has been long studied, but their potential for supporting self-care has received less attention, especially for older adults. METHODS We reviewed work on pedagogical agents and considered how it informs the design of CAs for older adults. We propose a framework for designing CAs to support older adult self-care, which organizes a review of work in this area and integration with the pedagogical agent literature. RESULTS Our review of the pedagogical agent literature revealed an evolution from teaching machines to interactive, social systems that influence student motivational as well as learning outcomes. To integrate this review with work on CAs and self-care, we developed a framework that specifies how self-care goals evolve with stages of an illness, communication goals that support self-care at each stage, patient needs, and requirements for CAs to support these needs. The review identified an agenda for future research on CA functions and features that help older adults accept need for self-care, establish self-care, and sustain self-care over time. CONCLUSIONS Integrating insights from the pedagogical agent literature with research on developing CAs for self-care defines an agenda for developing and evaluating CAs to help older adults manage illness.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The interest in CAM among cancer patients is constantly growing and about 50% already used CAM alongside cancer therapy. Little is known on the factors influencing patients' choice of type of CAM used. METHODS A questionnaire consisting of two validated instruments (the ASKU (Allgemeine Selbstwirksamkeit Kurzskala), the PAM 13-D (Patient Activation Measure) and the structured AKKOM questionnaire on CAM usage was distributed at a German university hospital. RESULTS 639 patients (male 32.9%, female 63.2%; gynecological cancer 41%, gastrointestinal 19.2%, urogenital 15.6%) took part. 60% had used CAM in the last 3 months (biological 73%, holistic 63%, mind-body-methods 62%). Participants up to 30 years preferred biologically (p = 0.001), while women with gynecological cancer favored holistic based methods (p < 0.0001). There was no association between patients' beliefs on cancer causes and the chosen CAM method. CONCLUSION Improving knowledge in patients on cancer etiology and treatments could facilitate the understanding of additional complementary treatments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The worldwide spread of digitalization has led to the harnessing of technology to improve health outcomes. Paying attention to older adults' social needs via social media is one way to promote healthy aging. Although 56% of older adults are smartphone users, little is known about their use patterns of social media. OBJECTIVE This exploratory study aims to determine the experiences of social media apps' use among older adults in Singapore and understand their perceptions of its impact on health-related outcomes. METHODS This study used a qualitative research design with an interpretative approach. Using maximum variation purposive sampling, normal aging older adults (N=16) who were aged between 60 and 80 years and experienced in the use of internet-enabled technology were recruited from an existing community study. Semistructured, in-depth interviews were conducted. Employing a thematic analysis, interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed for codes inductively. RESULTS The following themes and subthemes were identified as key moderators of older adults' experiences on social media apps: (1) personal attitudes: participants were encouraged to use social media due to the increased accessibility, which enabled the ease of contact, but perceptions that the quality of interactions was compromised and its associated risks reduced their use; and (2) social influences: the desire to bond with co-users and the availability of support increased use. In addition, use of social media apps was perceived to positively impact health through its ability to keep older adults cognitively engaged, improve health communication, and increase social connectedness. However, opinions remained mixed on older adults' vulnerability to social media addiction. CONCLUSIONS Personal and social contexts determine older adults' social media use. This study's findings provide practical insights into how social media can be deployed to improve health-related outcomes in older adults.

Abstract
Participatory medicine and e-health help to promote health literacy among non-medical professionals. Users of e-health systems actively participate in a patient social network system (PSNS) to share health information and experiences with other users with similar health conditions. Users’ activities provide valuable healthcare resources to develop effective participatory medicine between patients, caregivers, and medical professionals. This study aims to investigate the factors of patients’ engagement in a PSNS by integrating and modifying an existing behavioral model and information system model (i.e., affective events theory (AET) and self-determination theory (SDT)). The AET is used to model the structure, the affective aspects of the driven behavior, and actual affective manifestation. The SDT is used to model interest and its relations with behavior. The data analysis and model testing are based on structural equation modeling, using responses from 428 users. The results indicate that interest and empathy promote users’ engagement in a PSNS. The findings from this study suggest recommendations to further promote users’ participation in a PSNS from the sociotechnical perspective, which include sensitizing and constructive engagement features. Furthermore, the data generated from a user’s participation in a PSNS could contribute to the study of clinical manifestations of disease, especially an emerging disease.

Abstract
Intelligent voice assistants (IVAs) such as Amazon Echo and Google Home
present a promising opportunity to improve access to consumer health
information and resources for older adults. However, researchers know
little about older adults’ opinions of using IVAs for these
potentially critical tasks, particularly those with already limited
access. In this paper, we explore older adults’ views about IVAs for
consumer health and wellness information with the goal of better
understanding what they envision as benefits and barriers of using
such technology in the future. We shared an IVA prototype with ten
older adults (60 years of age or older). We interviewed them about how
a similar system might impact their access to consumer health
information. Participants saw the potential for IVAs to improve their
search experiences and support them with other health tasks. However,
participants were also concerned about adopting an IVA for health due
to access barriers, confidentiality risks, and concerns about
receiving trusted information. Based on our findings, we discuss
considerations for designing IVAs for underserved, older adult
populations.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Increasingly, people access Internet-based health information about various chronic conditions including hearing loss and hearing aids. YouTube is one media source that has gained much popularity in recent years. PURPOSE The current study examines the source, content, understandability, and actionability of YouTube videos related to hearing aids. RESEARCH DESIGN Cross-sectional design by analyzing the videos at single point in time. STUDY SAMPLE One hundred most frequently viewed videos in YouTube. INTERVENTION Not applicable. DATA COLLECTION AND ANALYSIS The 100 most-viewed English language videos targeting individuals seeking information regarding hearing aids were identified and manually coded. Data collection included general information about the video (e.g., source, title, authorship, date of upload, duration of video), popularity-driven measures (e.g., number of views, likes, dislikes), and the video source (consumer, professional, or media). The video content was analyzed to examine what pertinent information they contained in relation to a predetermined fact sheet. Understandability and actionability of the videos were examined using the Patient Education Material Assessment Tool for Audiovisual Materials. RESULTS Of the 100 most-viewed videos, 11 were consumer-based, 80 were created by professionals, and the remaining 9 were media-based. General information about hearing aids, hearing aid types, and handling and maintenance of hearing aids were the most frequently discussed content categories with over 50% of all videos commenting on these areas. Differences were noted between source types in several content categories. The overall understandability scores for videos from all sources were 74%, which was considered adequate; however, the actionability scores for all the videos were 68%, which is considered inadequate. CONCLUSION YouTube videos about hearing aids focused on a range of issues and some differences were found between source types. The poor actionability of these videos may result in incongruous consumer actions. Content and quality of the information in hearing aid YouTube videos needs to be improved with input from professionals.

Abstract
Background The internet has the potential to foster healthy lifestyles and to support chronic disease management. Older adults could benefit from using the internet and other information and communication technology to access health-related information and interventions available online. Objective The aim of this study was to investigate factors influencing internet use in older and oldest age groups and to determine the frequency of internet use for health-related purposes. Methods Using data from a nationally representative telephone survey of older adults aged 75 years and over, a sample of 999 people was assessed using structured clinical interviews. Descriptive and binary logistic regression analyses were performed. Results Overall, 42.6% (418/999) of participants used the internet. Among those, 55.7% (233/417) searched the internet for health-related information. Regression analyses revealed that internet use was significantly associated with younger age (odds ratio [OR] 0.89, 95% CI 0.85-0.92; P<.001), male gender (OR 2.84, 95% CI 2.02-4.00; P<.001), higher education levels (OR 6.69, 95% CI 4.48-9.99; P<.001), a wider social network (OR 1.04, 95% CI 1.01-1.07; P=.01), higher health-related quality of life (OR 1.02, 95% CI 1.00-1.03; P=.006), lower levels of depressive symptoms (OR 0.89, 95% CI 0.80-0.99; P=.04), and higher rates of chronic illness (OR 1.12, 95% CI 1.04-1.21; P<.004). Conclusions This study provides population-representative data on internet use in old age in Germany. People in the older and oldest age groups participate in online activities. Understanding the factors that are associated with older adults internet use can contribute to developing tailored interventions and eHealth (electronic health) services to improve well-being in older adults.
