Abstract
Background Immediate implant placement into a fresh extraction socket has been developed as a consistent treatment, allowing for a reduction in the duration of time necessary for prosthetic rehabilitation. The study will evaluate the clinical and radiologic outcomes of implants placed immediately for a 10-year follow-up period. Aim The aim of this systematic review is to evaluate the durability of the immediate implant in periodontally compromised individual placement. Methods Studies reporting clinical and radiologic implant outcomes from periodontally compromised individuals who were treated and followed periodontal and implant maintenance for ≥5 years were considered eligible for the review. Screening of the articles, data extraction, and quality assessment were conducted independently and in duplicate. Results There were 99 papers, and of them, 55 were excluded after title/abstract assessment. The full texts of 28 potentially eligible publications were screened, but only seven studies met the inclusion criteria. Conclusions The study confirms that immediate implant therapy is safe, effective, and predictable for successful osseointegration and long-term functioning in periodontally compromised individuals, with minimal differences in clinical and radiographic outcomes.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Demineralized bone matrix (DBM) is a well-established bone graft material widely accepted by dentists and the public for its favorable osteoconductivity and osteoinductive potential. This article aimed to provide a narrative review of the current therapeutic applications and limitations of DBM in maxillofacial bone defects. STUDY SELECTION, DATA, AND SOURCES Randomized controlled trials, prospective or retrospective clinical studies, case series and reports, and systematic reviews. MEDLINE, PubMed, and Google Scholar were searched using keywords. CONCLUSIONS Some evidence supported the therapeutic application of DBM in periodontal intrabony defects, maxillary sinus lifts, ridge preservation, ridge augmentation, alveolar cleft repair, orthognathic surgery, and other regional maxillofacial bone defects. However, the limitations of DBM should be considered when using it, including potential low immunogenicity, instability of osteoinductive potential, handling of the graft material, and patient acceptance. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE With the increasing demand for the treatment of maxillofacial bone defects, DBM is likely to play a greater role as a promising bone graft material. Safe and effective combination treatment strategies and how to maintain a stable osteoinductive potential will be the future challenges of DBM research.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This systematic review aimed to investigate and examine whether intra-articular injections of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) after arthrocentesis are beneficial for the treatment of temporomandibular disorders, when compared to other treatments, such as injections of hyaluronic acid (HA) or saline after arthrocentesis. METHODS An electronic search on PubMed was performed using combinations of the terms 'temporomandibular' and 'platelet rich plasma', to identify studies reported in English and published up until 2017. The initial screening identified 222 records, of which only seven fulfilled the inclusion criteria and were included in this review. Of these studies, three compared injection of PRP after arthrocentesis with the injection of HA after arthrocentesis, while two compared injection of PRP after arthrocentesis with Ringer's lactate after arthrocentesis and one compared injection of PRP after arthrocentesis to sodium chloride. RESULTS Five of the studies found that PRP injections have led to significant improvements in mandibular range of motion and pain intensity up to 12 months after treatment, while the remaining two studies found similar results for the different treatments. CONCLUSION However, a standardized protocol for PRP preparation and application needs to be established.

Abstract
Introduction Placement of immediate implants in contrast to delayed implant placement may be favorable. The factors contributing to this are shortened overall treatment time, aid in ideal orientation and fixture placement, bone preservation following extraction, and achieving optimal aesthetics involving soft tissue. However, the gap distance between the surface of the implant and the buccal bony wall during implant placement is critical for subsequent bone healing in a fresh extraction socket. Considering that as the gap broadens, the amount of bone-to-implant contact (BIC) decreases, causing an apical shift of the highest bone-implant contact. Incorporating a bone substitute material (BSM) within the fixture-socket gap preserves alveolar ridge volume by minimizing socket remodeling and encouraging de-novo bone formation. Aim and objectives To evaluate the efficacy of platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) and demineralized freeze-dried bone allograft (DFDBA) in fresh extraction socket with simultaneous implant placement. Methods Implants were immediately placed in 12 patients following a two-stage submerged protocol. The combination of PRFM and DFDBA was used to fill the gap between the implant body and the surrounding socket wall. The final restoration was placed after 3 months following implant placement. The full mouth plaque, gingival bleeding index, and gingival esthetics scores were assessed at baseline, 3, and 6 months. The crestal changes were evaluated using intraoral periapical radiographs (IOPA) at baseline, 3, and 6 months. Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were obtained at baseline and 6 months after implant loading to analyze the buccolingual changes. Results At 6 months follow-up, the coronal bone remodeling detected on CBCT revealed a minimal (0.1 mm) narrowing of the alveolar ridge in a buccolingual direction, with a mean bone loss of 0.10+0.09, which was statistically non-significant (p > 0.05). Implant success was 100% at 6 months after loading as determined by Akbrektsson’s criteria for implant success. Conclusions The adjunctive use of PRFM with DFDBA following immediate implant placement yielded a significant reduction in bone resorption and maintenance of buccolingual dimensions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Growing evidence shows the efficacy of platelet concentrates in periodontal therapy. This study aimed to demonstrate that an inorganic bovine bone graft (IBB) in combination with a leukocyte and platelet rich fibrin (L-PRF) is non-inferior to a combination with a collagen membrane (CM) when managing unfavorable infrabony defects (IBDs). METHODS All patients exhibited at least one unfavorable IBD; they were randomly assigned to two groups, 31 treated with L-PRF+IBB and 31 with CM+IBB. A clinical and radiographic examination was performed at baseline and 12 months later. Clinical attachment level (CAL), gingival recession (GR), probing depth (PD), and radiographic defect bone level (DBL) post-therapy changes were compared between the two treatments. A non-inferiority margin = 1 mm was set to determine the efficacy of the test treatment (-1 mm for GR); a second non-inferiority margin = 0.5 mm (-0.5 mm for GR) was chosen for clinical relevance. RESULTS Twelve months after surgery a significant improvement of clinical and radiographic parameters was observed at both experimental sites. The 90% confidence intervals of the CM+IBB-L-PRF+IBB mean difference for CAL gain (-0.810 mm [-1.300 to -0.319]) and DBL gain (-0.648 mm [-1.244 to -0.052]) were below the 0.5 mm non-inferiority margin; GR increase (1.284 mm [0.764 to 1.804]) remained above the -0.5 mm, while PD reduction (0.499 mm [0.145 to 0.853]) crossed its 0.5-mm margin. CONCLUSIONS The L-PRF+IBB treatment of unfavorable IBDs offers non-inferior efficacy for CAL gain, showing less GR and more DBL gain too, while for PD reduction it is inferior to the CM+IBB treatment.

Abstract
Here, the authors present the clinical case of a 45-year-old woman with a diagnosis of a chronic periodontal abscess of the tooth #8. After atraumatic dental extraction and bone regeneration with the use of platelet-rich fibrin and bone graft, the area showed excellent bone regeneration with adequate stability of the soft tissue, even 4 months after the surgery.

Abstract
Currently, dental implants are a very frequent therapeutic alternative for replacing missing teeth. However, they are not exempt from developing complications of infectious origin. Therefore, this case report describes a 67-year-old female patient presenting infectious complications caused by suture rupture. Surgery combined with therapeutic management with antibiotics was performed, allowing preservation of the osseointegration of the implants in the lower arch. Within the limitations of this study, it was shown that more research is needed to determine the success and survival of implants presenting complications due to infections during the osseointegration process.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aim of the present study was to ascertain if a combination of leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) + autogenous bone graft (ABG) may be a clinically "non-inferior" treatment modality as compared with the association of enamel matrix derivative (EMD) with ABG in the management of intrabony defects (IBDs). METHODS A total of forty-four patients, exhibiting at least one unfavorable intraosseous defect, were treated by L-PRF associated with ABG (22 patients; test group) or EMD+ABG (control group) in each defect. At baseline and 12 months, a complete clinical and radiographic examination was done. Pre- and post-therapy clinical (probing pocket depth [PPD], clinical attachment level [CAL], gingival recession [GR]) and radiographic (defect Bone level [(DBL)] parameters for the different treatments were compared. To guarantee the test treatment's efficacy 1mm was chosen as non-inferiority margin; for clinical relevance, a second non-inferiority margin = 0.5 mm was set. RESULTS Clinical and radiographic parameters significantly improved 12 months after surgery in both test and control sites, without inter-groups differences for each measurement. The control group - test group differences for the parameters CAL gain -0.248 mm (-0.618 to 0.122), PPD Reduction -0.397 mm (-0.810 to 0.015), GR Change 0.059 mm (-0.300 to 0.418), DBL Gain -0.250 mm (-0.746 to 0.246) were all within the non-inferiority margin of 0.5 mm. CONCLUSION Our results suggest that the L-PRF+ABG combined treatment of non-contained IBDs produces non-inferior results in terms of CAL gain, PPD reduction, GR increase and DBL gain in comparison with the EMD+ABG combination.
