Abstract
In response to rising rates of melanoma worldwide, novel non-invasive melanoma detection techniques are emerging to facilitate the early detection of melanoma and decrease unnecessary biopsies of benign pigmented lesions. Because they often report similar study findings, it may be difficult to determine how best to incorporate these technologies into clinical practice based on their supporting studies alone. As an expansion of the recent article by Fried et al.1, which reviewed the clinical data supporting these non-invasive melanoma detection techniques, the first article in this continuing medical education series provides practical advice on how and when to use various non-invasive melanoma detection techniques into clinical practice.

Abstract
Halo nevi, known as leukoderma acquisitum centrifugum, Sutton nevus, leukopigmentary nevus, perinevoid vitiligo, or perinevoid leukoderma, together with vitiligo and melanoma-associated hypopigmentation, belong to the group of dermatoses designated as immunological leukodermas. The etiology and pathogenesis of halo nevi has not been fully elucidated. There are several mechanisms through which a lymphocytic infiltrate can induce tumoral regression. In this review, we aimed to update the knowledge about Sutton nevi starting with the clinical appearance and dermoscopic features, continuing with information regarding conventional microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and the immunological mechanisms responsible for the occurrence of halo nevi. We also included in the article original unpublished results when discussing dermoscopic, pathologic and immunohistochemical results in halo nevi. Sutton nevi are valuable models for studying antitumor reactions that the human body can generate. The slow and effective mechanism against a melanocytic skin tumor can teach us important lessons about both autoimmune diseases and anticancer defenses.

Abstract
Immunotherapy with checkpoint inhibitors significantly improves the outcome for stage III and IV melanoma. Cutaneous adverse events during treatment are often reported. We herein aim to review the principal pigmentation changes induced by immune check-point inhibitors: the appearance of vitiligo, the Sutton phenomenon, melanosis and hair and nail toxicities.

Abstract
Pagetoid spread of melanocytes in the epidermis is a common indicator of melanocytic atypia, both histopathologically and with reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM). Specifically on RCM, large, bright, atypical dendritic and/or roundish cells are characteristic of melanoma. However, intraepidermal Langerhans cells (ILC) create the potential for diagnostic ambiguity on RCM. We describe one case of a pigmented facial lesion that was initially diagnosed as lentigo maligna (LM) due to numerous atypical perifollicular dendritic cells on RCM. Additionally, we present the findings of a literature review for similar reported cases conducted by searching the following terms on PubMed: reflectance confocal microscopy, RCM, lentigo maligna, melanoma, Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, and atypical cells. In our case, the lesion was determined to be a solar lentigo on histopathology. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) with CD1a identified the atypical-appearing cells as ILC, as it did in 54 reported cases of benign lesions (benign melanocytic nevus, Sutton/halo nevus, labial melanotic macule, and solar lentigo) misdiagnosed as malignant on RCM (melanoma, lip melanoma, lentigo maligna, and LM melanoma). According to our case and the literature, both ILC and atypical melanocytes can present with atypical-appearing dendritic and/or roundish cells under RCM. Currently, there is no method to distinguish the two without IHC. Therefore, the presence of pagetoid cells should continue to alert the confocalist of a potential neoplastic process, prompting biopsy, histopathologic diagnosis, and IHC differentiation.

Abstract
Background Halo nevi are often considered benign, and the possibility of malignancy is not always clear to practitioners. We present two case reports suggesting that a halo nevus appearance can be seen in melanoma, even in young adults. A literature search for halo nevi revealing melanoma shows that this is a very rare condition. Case presentation. This report of two young patients indicates the importance of obtaining a detailed history to detect warning signs such as itching, pain, spontaneous bleeding, and previous alterations according to the patient, including a previously totally black colour in an already fully regressed melanoma. Conclusions The risk of a halo nevus being malignant is higher if there is only one unique halo nevus and no personal or familial history of vitiligo. We postulate that a regressing atypical nevus or a regressing melanoma may be induced by an immunologic reaction as halo nevus type of clinical picture.
