Abstract
In an attempt to condition the aftereffect of a rotating spiral a tone was paired, in a series of training trials, with the presentation of a spiral figure. Three types of pairing were explored: (a) tone presented during rotation of the spiral and also during the following aftereffect period, (b) tone presented during the aftereffect period only, (c) tone presented during the aftereffect period only, but the aftereffect was phenomenally absent. In comparisons with a no-tone control condition, condition (c) above showed clearest evidence of conditioning on subsequent test trials.
