Two charge-transfer complex spectrophotometric methods for the determination of sulpiride in pharmaceutical formulations

Preparation and characterization of novel MWCNTs/Fe-Co doped TNTs nanocomposite for potentiometric determination of sulpiride in real water samples

Novel multiwalled carbon nanotubes/ Fe-Co doped titanate nanotubes nanocomposite (MWCNTs/Fe-Co doped TNTs) facilitated the charge transfer and enhanced sensitivity and selectivity. Herein, three novel modified carbon paste sensors (CPSs) based on MWCNTs (sensor I), Fe-Co doped TNTs (sensor II) and MWCNTs/Fe-Co doped TNTs composite (sensor III) were fabricated for a simple, low cost and high accuracy electrochemical method for the potentiometric determination of sulpiride (SLP). The sensors exhibited excellent Nernstian slopes 57.1 ± 0.4, 56 ± 0.5 and 58.8 ± 0.2 mV decade⁻¹ with detection limits (DL) 7.6 × 10⁻⁷, 1.58 × 10⁻⁶ and 8.7 × 10⁻⁸ mol L⁻¹, quantification limits (QL) 2.5 × 10⁻⁶, 5.2 × 10⁻⁶ and 2.9 × 10⁻⁷ mol L⁻¹ for a long lifetime 20, 18, and 25 weeks for sensors (I), (II), and (III), respectively. The modified sensor (III) was applicable by measuring the concentration of spiked SLP in pure solutions, pharmaceutical products, human urine, and real water samples. The proposed method can be used as an important analytical tool in the quality control of the pharmaceutical industry.

Ligand exchange method for determination of mole ratios of relatively weak metal complexes: a comparative study

Ligand exchange method is introduced as an alternative to Job's and mole ratio methods for studying the stoichiometry of relatively weak metal complexes in solutions. The method involves adding varying amounts of a ligand (L) to an excess constant amount of a colored complex (MX) with appropriate stability and molar absorptivity. The absorbance of each solution is measured at the λ_max of the initial complex, MX, and plotted against the concentration of the studied ligand, L. If the newly formed complex ML does not absorb at the λ_max of the initial complex, then attenuation of the absorbance of the initial complex on adding varying quantities of the investigational ligand gives an inverse calibration line that intersects with the calibration curve of initial complex at a given point. If a line parallel to the ordinate is drawn from this point to the x-axis, the ratio of the two parts of the x-axis to the left and to the right (α/β) gives the metal to ligand molar ratio in the complex formed, ML. The new method has been applied to the study of the composition of iron (III) complexes with three bisphosphonate drugs: alendronate, etidronate, and ibandronate. The mole ratio was found to be 1:1 with the three investigated bisphosphonates and results were further confirmed by Job's and mole ratio methods. The ligand exchange method is simpler, quicker, easier to perform and more accurate than Job's and mole ratio methods for studying weak and relatively weak complexes.

Spectrophotometric investigation of interaction between iodine and pentadentate Schiff base ligands

The interaction between iodine as an electron acceptor (A), and three pentadentate Schiff bases, 1,3-bis(salicylideneamino)-2-propanol (SB1), 1,3-bis(2-hydroxy-1-naphthylideneamino)-2-propanol (SB2), and 1,3-bis[1-(pyridine-2-yl)methylideneamino]-2-propanol (SB3), as electron donor systems (D), was studied spectrophotometrically in methanol at 28 °C. Equilibrium constants K(AD) and molar extinction coefficients ε(AD) of the donor-acceptor complexes (AD) were determined using the modified Benesi-Hildebrand equation in conjunction with the non linear fit analysis. The method shows the formation of 1:1 type complexes as major species in solution. The free energy changes ΔG° and the energy of the charge transfer band E(CT) were also calculated for all complexes. The iodine complex derived from SB2 seems to be more stable than those derived from SB3 and SB1. On the other hand, the ionization potential I(D) of each Schiff base was estimated from the corresponding complex band energy, using an empirical equation. An inverse relationship between I(D) and K(AD) values was found. Blue and red shift observed for the 445 nm band of iodine were also discussed on the basis of theoretical considerations.
