Development of Bibliometrics as a Scientific Field

Visual analysis of research progress and trend on hairy roots

Hairy root is a special form of root tissue, which is induced by Rhizobium rhizogenes and could mediate genetic transformation after the infection of explants. They have attracted attentions because of their advantages of fast growth rate, convenient culture, stable genetic properties and strong synthesis ability of secondary metabolites. With bibliometrics, this study employed CiteSpace and VOSvivewer softwares to analyze the publications on hairy roots researches from 2009 to 2024 based on WOS database. The subject distribution, countries, institutions and personnel, research hotspots and research trends of hairy roots were discussed and analyzed. The results revealed a consistent increase in publications on hairy root with America, China and India as the main countries. The institutions were mainly universities and the Chinese Academy of Sciences was a major contributor to this topic and had close cooperation with other institutions. The researches of hairy roots mainly focused on plant genetic transformation, secondary metabolism and gene molecular function analysis, and in environmental remediation. The application of hairy roots could be an important research hotspot in the future.

General, social, and intellectual structure of breastfeeding studies in the field of nursing: A bibliometric analysis on R software

OBJECTIVE

This study aims to reveal the general, social, and intellectual structure of breastfeeding studies published in the field of nursing between 2014 and 2023 by using the bibliometric method.

METHODS

A total of 2304 articles published in the last ten years were reached by searching the Web of Science database using the keywords "breastfeeding" and "breast feeding." Study data were analyzed on the open source R Studio software and the "biblioshiny for bibliometrix" package, an R software tool. Descriptive, cluster, and network analyses were performed.

RESULTS

Of the articles, 10.46 % were single-author studies, the mean collaboration index was three, and the author footprint index was 0.22. The most cited article in the intellectual field had been published by Henshaw et al. in 2014. The word tree mapping yielded four basic concepts as a result of the evaluation of the word frequencies. The theme analysis indicated that advanced hotspots and the main topics discussed by the authors mainly included breastfeeding, lactation, breastfeeding support, and exclusive breastfeeding. The United States was the country with the highest number of publications and was effective in collaboration.

CONCLUSIONS

Breastfeeding studies in the field of nursing conducted in the last decade maintain their importance in the field.

PRACTICAL IMPLICATIONS

Breastfeeding continues to be important in the field of nursing as well as maternal and infant health. The results of the study are expected to guide researchers, policy makers and program managers interested in the subject.

Worldwide Bronchiolitis obliterans research: A bibliometric analysis of the published literature between 2002 and 2022

Bronchiolitis obliterans (BO) is a rare and irreversible chronic respiratory disease. The diagnosis of BO is challenging, and there still needs to be specific therapies and uniform treatment guidelines available. Research on BO has grown steadily over the past 20 years, and with the continued interest of researchers in this area, a bibliometric study of BO becomes necessary. This topic aims to assess the current state of research in BO over the last 2 decades and to identify research hotspots and emerging directions. Information on BO-related articles were obtained from the Science Citation Index Expand of the Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC [SCI-E]) database. Citespace (6.1.R6), VOSviewer (1.6.18), and the online bibliometrics website (https://bibliometric.com/) were used for bibliometric analysis mainly to include country/region, institution, author, journal, keywords, and references and to construct visual knowledge network diagrams. A total of 4153 publications from the WOSCC [SCI-E] database were included in this study. Most publications come from the United States, Japan, and Germany, which collaborate relatively more frequently. Research institutions in the United States, especially the University of Washington, published the largest number of BO-related articles. Regarding authors, Vos, R is the most productive author, while Verleden, GM is the most influential in BO. In addition, JOURNAL OF HEART AND LUNG TRANSPLANTATION is the journal with the most published articles. The most cited article is Estenne M, 2002. Based on the clustering analysis of keywords and references, the diagnosis of bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS), treatment of BOS, and risk factors of BO are the current research hotspots and future research trends. We analyzed the publication trends in BO by bibliometrics and mapped the knowledge network of major contributing countries/regions, institutions, authors, and journals. Current research hotspots were found based on the main keywords and references. The outcome may help researchers identify potential collaborators, collaborating institutions, and hot fronts in BO to enhance collaboration on critical issues and improve the diagnosis and treatment of BO.

Visibility, impact, and applications of bibliometric software tools through citation analysis

This study examines the visibility, impact, and applications of bibliometric software tools in the peer-reviewed literature through a "Cited Reference Search" using the Web of Science (WOS) database. A total of 2882 citing research articles to eight bibliometric software tools were extracted from the WOS Core Collection between 2010 and 2021. These citing articles are analyzed by publication year, country, publication title, publisher, open access level, funding agency, and WOS category. Mentions of bibliometric software tools in Author Keywords and KeyWords Plus are also compared. The VOSviewer software is utilized to identify specific research areas by discipline from the keyword co-occurrences of the citing articles. The findings reveal that while bibliometric software tools are making a noteworthy impact and contribution to research, their visibility through referencing, Author Keywords, and KeyWords Plus is limited. This study serves as a clarion call to raise awareness and initiate discussions on the citing practices of software tools in scholarly publications.
