Abstract
The problem of aging is mainly the increase of age-related diseases, and elderly patients have longer hospitalization and worse prognosis. Poorer nutritional status and immunosenescence may be predisposing and severe factors. The mechanism of the high incidence of diseases and poor prognosis behind aging is complex. Finding suitable aging models is of great significance to find strategies to prevent aging related events. In this study, the relationship between thyrotoxicosis and aging was investigated in mice. The results of routine blood tests and flow cytometry showed that immunosenescence occurred in thyrotoxicosis mice, which was characterized by a significant decrease in neutrophils, lymphocytes, CD4+/CD8+ and CD4+IFN-γ+ lymphocytes. Biochemical examination results showed that there were hypocholesterolemia, hypolipoproteinemia, and hyperlipidemia in thyrotoxicosis mice. Serum proteomics analysis showed that the downregulation of complement and coagulation proteins was another manifestation of declined immunity. Moreover, proteomics analysis showed that many downregulated proteins were related to homeostasis, mainly transport proteins. Their downregulation led to the disturbance of osmotic pressure, ion homeostasis, vitamin utilization, lipid transport, hyaluronic acid processing, and pH maintenance. Serum metabolomics analysis provided more detailed evidence of homeostasis disturbance, especially lipid metabolism disorder, including the downregulation of cholesterol, vitamin D, bile acids, docosanoids, and the upregulation of glucocorticoids, triglycerides, sphingolipids, and free fatty acids. The upregulated lipid metabolites were related to lipotoxicity, which might be one cause of immunosenescence and many aging related syndromes. This study provides evidence for the aging model of thyrotoxicosis mice, which can be used for exploring anti-aging drugs and strategies.

Abstract
Objective: Palpitations during peri- and post-menopause are common. It is unclear what
variables are related to palpitations in peri- and post-menopausal women.
The purpose of this scoping review was to summarize potential correlates of
palpitations in women transitioning through menopause. Methods: The review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and
Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). Authors included
English-language, full-length, peer-reviewed, cross-sectional research
articles on palpitations in menopausal women published through December 18,
2021, from PubMed, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature
(CINAHL), and PsycINFO searches. Following de-duplication, screening of
titles and abstracts, and review of full-texts, independent reviewers
extracted data on variables studied in relationship to palpitations from 84
articles and resolved discrepancies. Authors extracted data on (1)
demographic, clinical, biomarker, and symptom/quality of life variables and
(2) data analysis method (bivariate, multivariate). Authors classified each
variable as a likely, unlikely, or unclear correlate of palpitations. Results: Articles were diverse in region of origin, sample sizes, and variables
assessed in relationship to palpitations. Evidence for any one variable was
sparse. Likely correlates of palpitations included race/ethnicity, lower
physical activity, worse vasomotor symptoms (VMSs), worse sleep, and worse
quality of life. Unlikely correlates included age, employment, education,
marital status, socioeconomic status, comorbidities, body mass index, and
sexual difficulties. Unclear correlates due to equivocal evidence were
menopausal status, smoking, and depression. Unclear correlates due to
insufficient evidence (less than three articles) included all of the
assessed biomarkers, anxiety, and stress. Conclusion: Likely correlates were identified including race/ethnicity, physical
activity, VMS, sleep, and quality of life. However, additional research is
needed to better understand potential correlates of palpitations.

Abstract
Palpitations are reported commonly by women around the time of menopause as skipped, missed, irregular, and/or exaggerated heartbeats or heart pounding. However, much less is known about palpitations than other menopausal symptoms such as vasomotor symptoms. The objective of this review was to integrate evidence on menopausal palpitations measures. Keyword searching was done in PubMed, CINAHL, and PsycINFO for English-language, descriptive articles containing data on menopause and palpitations and meeting other pre-specified inclusion criteria. Of 670 articles, 110 met inclusion criteria and were included in the review. Results showed that 11 different measures were used across articles, with variability within and between measures. Inconsistencies in the wording of measurement items, recall periods, and response options were observed even when standardized measures were used. Most measures were limited to assessing symptom presence and severity. Findings suggest that efforts should be undertaken to (1) standardize conceptual and operational definitions of menopausal palpitations and (2) develop a patient-friendly, conceptually clear, psychometrically sound measure of menopausal palpitations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Vasomotor symptoms affect 60-80% of women during the menopausal transition. Anxiety, depression, and anxiety sensitivity can have an important role in the distressful experience of vasomotor symptoms. Our aim was to evaluate the prevalence and association of vasomotor and negative affect symptoms. METHODS A cross-sectional study was conducted with 89 perimenopausal women aged 45-55 years. Broad psychiatric and clinical evaluations were carried out. The primary outcome was the vasomotor symptom problem rating and the main study factor was anxiety sensitivity. Linear regression analyses were conducted to examine the associations between the study factors and the primary outcome, and a multiple regression model was created to assess which variables were independently associated with vasomotor symptom problem rating. RESULTS The prevalence of anxiety, depression, and vasomotor symptoms were 58, 62, and 73%, respectively. Negative affect symptoms were positively associated with vasomotor symptom problem rating. The association of anxiety sensitivity and vasomotor symptom problem rating remained significant after controlling for perimenopausal stage, thyrotropin, follicle-stimulating hormone levels, and psychotropic medication use (β = 0.314, p = 0.002). CONCLUSION A better understanding of the experience of vasomotor symptoms is needed, especially the role of negative affect symptoms and anxiety sensitivity. New strategies focusing on related thoughts and behaviors could improve the quality of life of perimenopausal women.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Climacteric symptoms are a variety of disturbing complaints occurring during menopausal transition, many of which may be influenced by hormonal abnormalities other than related to sex steroids. AIM OF THE STUDY In this study, we investigated the association between the intensity of climacteric symptoms measured with the Kupperman index and a thyroid status. MATERIAL AND METHODS We evaluated by measuring serum thyrotropin (TSH), and free thyroxine (fT4) 202 euthyroid women admitted to the Department of Gynecological Endocrinology, Poznan University of Medical Sciences because of climacteric symptoms. Patients were both in perimenopause (n = 74) and postmenopause (n = 128), with no history of thyroid disorders. RESULTS Results presented as the mean value and standard deviation were as follows: age 54.2 ± 4.9 years, BMI 26.8 ± 4.6 kg/m2, Kupperman index 26 ± 13.1 points, TSH 2.4 ± 2.6 mU/l, fT4 1.2 ± 0.37 ng/dl. We observed a negative correlation between fT4 and the time since the last menses (R = - 0.38; p = 0.02) as well as between serum TSH concentration and sweating (R = - 0.18; p = 0.03), general weakness (R = - 0.17; p = 0.03), and palpitation (R = - 0.18; p = 0.02) and a positive correlation between fT4 and nervousness (R = 0.34; p = 0.007) and palpitations (R = 0.25; p = 0.04). In the perimenopausal subgroup, there was a positive correlation between fT4 and general weakness (R = 0.42; p = 0.03), palpitations (R = 0.50; p = 0.009), and paresthesia (R = 0.46; p = 0.01). In the postmenopausal subgroup, there was a negative correlation between TSH and sweating (R = - 0.21; p = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS Menopausal symptoms are related to thyroid status in euthyroid menopausal women.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to assess the effect of body iodine status on hot flashes and cardiovascular disease risk in postmenopausal women. METHODS Two hundred and ten consecutive postmenopausal women without known any risk factor for cardiovascular disease risk or systemic disorder were recruited for the study. All participants underwent serum screening consisted of lipid profile including lipoprotein-a (Lp(a)) and urinary iodine excretion. Participants were also asked for the frequency and the duration of hot flashes. All parameters were assessed for the association between urine iodine excretion and other parameters. RESULTS Urine spot iodine level was significantly correlated with Lp(a) (r = -0.287, p < 0.001), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) (r = -0.187, p = 0.006), cholesterol level (r = -0.573, p < 0.001), TG level (r = -0.211, p = 0.02), frequency of hot flashes per a day (r = -0.467, p < 0.001), durations of hot flashes (r = -0.424, p < 0.001), fasting glucose level (r = 0.331, p < 0.001), and fT3 level (r = 0.475, p < 0.001). In multivariate analysis, Lp(a) levels were significantly associated with the urine iodine level (beta coefficient = -0.342, p < 0.001) after adjustment for LDL-C (beta coefficient = 0.225, p < 0.001), glucose (beta coefficient = 0.303, p < 0.001), and age (beta coefficient = 0.146, p < 0.017). CONCLUSION Body iodine status during postmenopausal period is associated with the menopausal symptoms and lipid profile including Lp(a).
