Effects of mechanical bed massage on biochemical markers of exercise-induced back muscle fatigue in athletes: A randomized controlled trial

An investigation of an athlete injury likelihood monitoring system using the random forest algorithm and DWT

BACKGROUND

The main goal of sports science is to monitor sports injuries. Nevertheless, the existing sports injury monitoring projects have many expensive instruments and excessively extended monitoring periods, which makes it difficult to expand sports injury monitoring on a large scale.

OBJECTIVE

The advancement of machine learning algorithms opens up new avenues for the tracking of sports injuries.

METHODS

A training set of sports injuries was created using the Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) and Random Forest algorithms. Next, a basic analytic framework was created based on the lower-body movement of runners, and an athlete's injury likelihood monitoring system was established. First off, the wearable gyroscope device can efficiently plot the motion displacement curve and monitor the three-dimensional mechanics of the athlete's hips, thighs, and calves. Secondly, the system has a higher computational efficiency and an advantage over other classifier-based systems in terms of testing and training timesRESULTS: The suggested system framework identifies athletes' injury propensity, providing preventive recommendations based on displacement curves, and offering a low total cost and high testing accuracy, making it easy to implement and cost-effective.

CONCLUSION

All things considered, the sports injury monitoring device is very accurate and reasonably priced, making it appropriate for widespread use.

Computational modeling of posteroanterior lumbar traction by an automated massage bed: predicting intervertebral disc stresses and deformation

Spinal traction is a physical intervention that provides constant or intermittent stretching axial force to the lumbar vertebrae to gradually distract spinal tissues into better alignment, reduce intervertebral disc (IVD) pressure, and manage lower back pain (LBP). However, such axial traction may change the normal lordotic curvature, and result in unwanted side effects and/or inefficient reduction of the IVD pressure. An alternative to axial traction has been recently tested, consisting of posteroanterior (PA) traction in supine posture, which was recently shown effective to increase the intervertebral space and lordotic angle using MRI. PA traction aims to maintain the lumbar lordosis curvature throughout the spinal traction therapy while reducing the intradiscal pressure. In this study, we developed finite element simulations of mechanical therapy produced by a commercial thermo-mechanical massage bed capable of spinal PA traction. The stress relief produced on the lumbar discs by the posteroanterior traction system was investigated on human subject models with different BMI (normal, overweight, moderate obese and extreme obese BMI cases). We predict typical traction levels lead to significant distraction stresses in the lumbar discs, thus producing a stress relief by reducing the compression stresses normally experienced by these tissues. Also, the stress relief experienced by the lumbar discs was effective in all BMI models, and it was found maximal in the normal BMI model. These results are consistent with prior observations of therapeutic benefits derived from spinal AP traction.

Establishment and identification of an animal model of long-term exercise-induced fatigue

In competitive sports, the training load is close to the human physiological limit, which will inevitably lead to exercise-induced fatigue. If fatigue cannot be recovered in time, it will eventually lead to excessive training and affect sport performance. Therefore, fatigue has become an important part of the physical function assessment for athletes. This paper will review animal models of long-term exercise-induced fatigue, modeling schemes of mice under treadmill and swimming training, phenotypes of long-term exercise-induced fatigue (e.g., nervous system damage, myocardial cell damage, bone mineral density changes, and skeletal muscle damage), and fatigue indicators. The relationship between physiological indicators and biomarkers and long-term exercise-induced fatigue is analyzed to promote exercise-induced fatigue monitoring. This paper attempts to provide a reference for the selection of animal models of long-term exercise-induced fatigue and provide a new theoretical basis for medical supervision and recovery of exercise-induced fatigue.
