Abstract
DCID (Dichloroimidazolidinedione) 2 is used as a novel coupling reagent for the esterification of carboxylic acids with alcohols at room temperature. The reaction represents the first DCID-promoted esterification under mild conditions with good to excellent yields. Reactions can proceed smoothly with those bearing electron-withdrawing and donating group(s) on the carboxylic acids and benzyl alcohols at ambient temperature. Furthermore, we proposed a plausible mechanism and confirmed it by isolating and characterizing intermediates 3a and 7. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by comparison of melting points and NMR spectra.

A parameter study of ultrasound assisted enzymatic esterification. Sci Rep 2022; 12:1421. Abstract
This work is focused on the study of the esterification parameters for the ultrasound assisted synthesis of isoamyl acetate catalyzed by lipase Lipozyme 435 in a continuous loop reactor. Investigating the influence of different parameters shows that a higher concentration of ester (462 mg/g mixture) can be obtained at a temperature of 50 °C, flow rate 0.16 mL/min. The best ultrasonication conditions are: sonication applied continuously for a short time (20 min), ultrasound power 32 mW and amplitude 20%. The enzyme can be successfully reused tree times without loss of enzyme activity. Reaction kinetics for isoamyl acetate ultrasound assisted production showed that satisfactory reaction concentration (close to the equilibrium concentrations) could be reached in short reaction times (2 h). Ultrasound assisted enzymatic esterification is consequently a cleaner and a faster process.

Abstract
The conventional flavor synthesis method suffers from low yields, time inefficiency, and extreme reaction conditions. Therefore, there is a necessity for the green and novel synthesis approach to overcome these limitations. The current review presents a holistic insight into different aspects associated with the synthesis of flavor esters using the immobilized enzyme. The application of process intensification tools such as ultrasound and microwave irradiation can enhance the reaction efficiency because of higher product recovery, less formation of by-products, and decreased energy consumption. This review presents the process intensification of value-added flavor esters synthesis and the mechanism of ultrasound and microwave action on the enzyme to enhance the enzyme activity and increase the reaction rate. It also summarizes the role of process intensification in enzymatic flavor ester synthesis, followed by specific examples as reported in the literature.

Abstract
The acidity of Al-SBA-15 materials functionalized by ball milling with several niobium loadings (0. 25-1 wt.%) as well as with several fluorine loadings (by wet impregnation using NH4F as a precursor) was characterized and materials investigated in the esterification of valeric acid to alkyl valerates. The parent Al-SBA-15 support as well as the modified materials loaded with Nb and/or F have been catalysts synthesized characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 physisorption measurements, and diffuse reflection infrared spectroscopy (DRIFT) among others. A special interest was paid on the acidity of the materials that was investigated by temperature-programmed desorption of pyridine. Interestingly, the characterization results for the materials containing fluorine showed up an increase in the acidity strength despite of a reduction in the number of acid sites. The catalytic performance of the as-prepared catalysts was investigated in the microwave-assisted esterification reaction of valeric acid to valerate esters. Thus, while the materials modified with niobium exhibited a lower catalytic activity as compared with the catalytic support (Al-SBA-15), the materials loaded with fluorine either onto Al-SBA-15 or on Nb1%/Al-SBA-15 materials presented enhanced conversion values of valeric acid. Therefore, it can be said that the new acid sites with enhanced strength formed by the incorporation of fluorine boost the esterification of valeric acid with alcohols to form the respective valerate ester.

Abstract
The usefulness of dried Dowex H+ cation-exchange resin with or without sodium iodide (NaI) as a catalyst system for different kinds of esterifications using carboxylic acids and alcohols as starting materials has been systematically investigated. The Dowex H+/NaI approach is very effective, generally high yielding, energy-efficient, and nontoxic, and the Dowex H+ resin is reusable. Since the whole procedure from start to product isolation is also very simple, these features make the method environmentally friendly. The method is regioselective, and its potential for separation of valuable carboxylic acids like resin acids from mixtures containing other kinds of carboxylic acids has been demonstrated. Examples for green and straightforward esterification of highly important natural amino acids are also presented.

Abstract
Alkyl esters are high added value products useful in a wide range of industrial sectors. A methodology based on a simple sol-gel approach (biosilicification) is herein proposed to encapsulate enzymes in order to design highly active and stable biocatalysts. Their performance was assessed through the optimization of valeric acid esterification evaluating the effect of different parameters (biocatalyst load, presence of water, reaction temperature and stirring rate) in different alcoholic media, and comparing two different methodologies: conventional heating and microwave irradiation. Ethyl valerate yields were in the 80–85% range under optimum conditions (15 min, 12% m/v biocatalyst, molar ratio 1:2 of valeric acid to alcohol). Comparatively, the biocatalysts were slightly deactivated under microwave irradiation due to enzyme denaturalisation. Biocatalyst reuse was attempted to prove that good reusability of these sol-gel immobilised enzymes could be achieved under conventional heating.
