Abstract
Polyphenols exert anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects by modulating cell signalling pathways and transcription factors involved in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, their stability during digestion can be compromised. Polymer coatings like chitosan (-C) help preserve their stability. Maqui (Aristotelia chilensis) and murta (Ugni molinae) are rich in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds. This work aims to obtain extracts (E) and blends (B) enriched in delphinidin and quercetin glucosides from maqui (Ma) and murta (Mu) crude extracts using preparative chromatography methodology (Prep-HPLC) and to evaluate their effectiveness through in vitro and cellular assays. HPLC-DAD analysis revealed a marked increase in phenolic compound concentration in the BEMaMu and BCMaMu extract blends. Total quercetin glycosides (TQG) increased by 11-fold, and total anthocyanins increased by approximately 8-fold compared to the fruit blend (BMaMu). BCMaMu exhibited a significantly higher ORAC value compared to the estimated additive mixture, suggesting a synergistic effect. No cytotoxicity was observed for BEMaMu, BCMaMu, and their chitosan-coated versions (BEMaMu-C and BCMaMu-C) in Caco-2 and HT29-MTX-E12 cells at concentrations of 0.1-50 mg/mL. Notably, only chitosan-coated BCMaMu inhibited NF-κB expression and activated Nrf2 in TNF-α-challenged Caco-2 cells at 0.1 and 0.5 mg/mL.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prevalence of osteoporosis (OP) on a global scale is significantly elevated that causes life threatening issues. The potential of groundbreaking biomolecular therapeutics in the field of OP is highly encouraging. The administration of biomolecular agents has the potential to mitigate the process of bone demineralization while concurrently augmenting the regenerative capacity of bone tissue, thereby facilitating a personalized therapeutic approach. Biomolecules-based therapies showed promising results in term of bone mass protection and restoration in OP. AIM OF REVIEW We summarized the recent biomolecular therapies with notable progress in clinical, demonstrating the potential to transform illness management. These treatments frequently utilize different biomolecule based strategies. Biomolecular therapeutics has a targeted character, which results in heightened specificity and less off-target effects, ultimately leading to increased patient outcomes. These aspects have the capacity to greatly enhance the management of OP, thus resulting in a major enhancement in the quality of life encountered by individuals affected by this condition.

Abstract
Botanical drugs and probiotic supplements present safer alternative options for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis (OP). However, pathological disorders of the gut microbiota and the specific properties of probiotics and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) significantly limit their therapeutic efficacy. Given the favorable synergistic and complementary effects between probiotics and herbal medicines, a creative combination of these approaches may address the issue of their current limited efficacy. A comprehensive analysis is necessary to provide a detailed review of their potential for combination, the mechanisms behind their synergy, scientific applications, and future developments. There exists a complex relationship between gut microbiota and OP, and the underlying regulatory mechanisms are multidimensional, involving the production of pro-inflammatory metabolites, immune system disruption, and the impairment of the intestinal mucosal barrier. Furthermore, we analyzed the complex mechanisms and potential connections between probiotics, TCM, and their combined applications. We highlighted the principle of complementary gain and the substantial therapeutic potential of their organic combination, which facilitates the release of active substances in TCM, increases the bioavailability of TCM, enhances probiotic delivery efficiency, and exerts synergistic effects. The combined use of probiotics and TCM offers a safe and effective strategy for managing OP and presents an innovative and promising direction for the future development of modern phytomedicine.

Abstract
Fruit wastes contain significant levels of polyphenols with various health-related effects. However, polyphenols have several limitations that hinder their industrial applications. In this study, solid-state fermentation was used as a pre-extraction treatment to not only increase the extraction efficiency of polyphenols from watermelon peel (WP), but also to overcome their drawbacks and improve other properties. Specifically, optimal conditions in the integrated process, fermentation and extraction, were determined by response surface methodology for the highest polyphenol recovery from WP. The post-process extract showed a dramatic improvement in polyphenol content with an increase in various phenolic compounds determined by UHPLC-MS/MS and a significant decrease in cytotoxicity. In addition, two limitations of polyphenols, low stability and bioaccessibility, were significantly improved. Various health potentials of WP were also enhanced: antioxidant (radical scavenging and ferric reduction), anti-inflammatory (inhibition of heat-induced hemolysis, protein denaturation and protease), selectively antibacterial (anti-growth, anti-survival and anti-biofilm for pathogenic bacteria), prebiotic (promotion of probiotic growth and biofilm formation), anti-diabetic (α-glucosidase and α-amylase inhibition), and anti-melanogenic (tyrosinase inhibition). The mechanisms of enzyme inhibition for anti-diabetic and anti-melanogenic capacity were further elucidated by enzyme kinetic studies. Overall, the study suggests an efficient process to convert WP into high-value products with prospects in the circular economy.

Abstract
Recent advances in microbiome research have uncovered a dynamic and complex connection between the gut and lungs, known as the gut-lung axis. This bidirectional communication network plays a critical role in modulating immune responses and maintaining respiratory health. Mediated by immune interactions, metabolic byproducts, and microbial communities in both organs, this axis demonstrates how gut-derived signals, such as metabolites and immune modulators, can reach the lung tissue via systemic circulation, influencing respiratory function and disease susceptibility. To explore the implications of this connection, we conducted a systematic review of studies published between 2001 and 2024 (with as much as nearly 60% covering the period 2020-2024), using keywords such as "gut-lung axis", "microbiome", "respiratory disease", and "immune signaling". Studies were selected based on their relevance to gut-lung communication mechanisms, the impact of dysbiosis, and the role of the gut microbiota in respiratory diseases. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the gut-lung microbiome axis, emphasizing its importance in regulating inflammatory and immune responses linked to respiratory health. Understanding this intricate pathway opens new avenues for microbiota-targeted therapeutic strategies, which could offer promising interventions for respiratory diseases like asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and even infections. The insights gained through this research underscore the potential of the gut-lung axis as a novel target for preventative and therapeutic approaches in respiratory medicine, with implications for enhancing both gut and lung health.

Abstract
Argan oil, rich in unsaturated fatty acids and polyphenols, exerts beneficial effects on both the intestinal and skin microbiotas. In the gut, it promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria, such as lactobacilli, while reducing pathogenic bacteria, due to its anti-inflammatory properties that help maintain microbial balance. Additionally, it improves the integrity of the intestinal mucosa, reducing the risk of dysbiosis. On the skin, argan oil hydrates and balances the lipid environment, creating a favorable setting for beneficial microorganisms, while also possessing antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties that soothe conditions like eczema and acne. Thus, argan oil is valuable for overall health, supporting digestion and skin health. The objective of this review is to provide a summary of the benefits of argan oil for alternative and complementary medicine. An exhaustive search of the literature was carried out using targeted keywords. A set of 83 articles were selected and analyzed. As the mechanisms of action of argan oil are not completely understood, this work highlighted the benefits of this oil by analyzing its nutritional properties and its beneficial effects on the intestinal and skin microbiotas. Indeed, argan oil is valuable for overall health.

Abstract
Background Proper nutrition is a crucial factor in preventing osteoporosis, a significant pathological cause linked to skeletal weakness; this study investigated the relationship between dietary diversity score and food group diversity score with osteoporosis in postmenopausal women. Methods This case-control study was conducted on 378 menopausal women aged 45-85 in Tehran, Iran. The age-matching method to control the confounding effect of age was used. The method of dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) was used for assessing the bone mineral density of lumbar vertebrae and femoral neck. The bone mass status was evaluated with WHO criteria. All subjects were divided into the osteoporosis group and the non-osteoporosis group according to their T-score. A convenience sampling method was utilized to select the participants, which included two groups: case (n = 189) and control (n = 189). Data was collected using demographic and anthropometric information questionnaires, a valid 147 item food frequency questionnaire, and a physical activity questionnaire. Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS-26, and p-values less than 0.05 were deemed to be statistically significant. Results The results indicated significant differences in weight, body mass index, physical activity, smoking, and alcohol use between the two groups. The mean ± standard deviation of dietary diversity score (DDS) was lower in participants with osteoporosis (case) (3.31 ± 1.26) than in control (4.64 ± 1.33) (p < 0.001). The mean ± standard deviation of diversity score of cereals, fruits, and vegetables in the osteoporosis group (respectively: 0.71 ± 0.21, 0.94 ± 0.76, and 0.45 ± 0.44) was less than the control group (respectively: 0.80 ± 0.21, 1.64 ± 0.55 and 0.87 ± 0.42) (p < 0.001). After adjusting the confounding variables, the risk of osteoporosis had an inverse relationship with the diversity score of vegetable (OR = 0.16; 95%CI: 0.07-0.35), bread and cereal (OR = 0.21; 95% CI: 0.05-0.87) and fruit (OR = 0.35; 95%CI: 0.22-0.56) (p < 0.05). Nevertheless, no discernible correlation was seen between the tertiles of DDS, dairy and meat diversity score, and osteoporosis. Conclusion We found a correlation between the diversity score of fruits, vegetables, and grains and osteoporosis. However, there is no significant correlation between the DDS triads and the diversity score of dairy products and meats with osteoporosis.

Abstract
Propolis is a resinous mixture produced by honeybees which has been used since ancient times for its useful properties. However, its chemical composition and bioactivity may vary, depending on the geographical area of origin and the type of tree bees use for collecting pollen. In this context, this research aimed to investigate the total phenolic content (using the Folin-Ciocalteu assay) and the total antioxidant capacity (using the FRAP, DPPH, and ABTS assays) of three black poplar (Populus nigra L.) propolis (BPP) solutions (S1, S2, and S3), as well as the chemical composition (HPLC-ESI-MSn) and biological activities (effect on cell viability, genotoxic/antigenotoxic properties, and anti-inflammatory activity, and effect on ROS production) of the one which showed the highest antioxidant activity (S1). The hydroalcoholic BPP solution S1 was a prototype of an innovative, research-type product by an Italian nutraceutical manufacturer. In contrast, hydroalcoholic BPP solutions S2 and S3 were conventional products purchased from local pharmacy stores. For the three extracts, 50 phenolic compounds, encompassing phenolic acids and flavonoids, were identified. In summary, the results showed an interesting chemical profile and the remarkable antioxidant, antigenotoxic, anti-inflammatory and ROS-modulating activities of the innovative BPP extract S1, paving the way for future research. In vivo investigations will be a possible line to take, which may help corroborate the hypothesis of the potential health benefits of this product, and even stimulate further ameliorations of the new prototype.

Abstract
Dysbiosis of the microbiota in the gastrointestinal tract can induce the development of gynaecological tumours, particularly in postmenopausal women, by causing DNA damage and alterations in metabolite metabolism. Dysbiosis also complicates cancer treatment by influencing the body's immune response and disrupting the sensitivity to chemotherapy drugs. Therefore, it is crucial to maintain homeostasis in the gut microbiota through the effective use of food components that affect its structure. Recent studies have shown that polyphenols, which are likely to be the most important secondary metabolites produced by plants, exhibit prebiotic properties. They affect the structure of the gut microbiota and the synthesis of metabolites. In this review, we summarise the current state of knowledge, focusing on the impact of polyphenols on the development of gynaecological tumours, particularly endometrial cancer, and emphasising that polyphenol consumption leads to beneficial modifications in the structure of the gut microbiota.
