Abstract
OBJECTIVE Ovarian cancer (OC) is a common malignant tumor in women, with poor prognosis and high mortality rates. Early diagnosis, screening, and prognostic prediction of OC have long been focal points and challenges in this field. In recent years, machine learning (ML) has gradually demonstrated its unique advantages in the early diagnosis, screening, and prognostic prediction of tumors, including OC.This study aims to analyze global development trends and research hotspots in the application of ML for OC, thereby providing a reference for future research directions. METHODS We searched the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) for all publications related to OC and ML from 2004 to 2024, conducting a quantitative analysis using VOSviewer, R software, and CiteSpace. RESULTS A total of 777 articles were retrieved.The number of publications related to ML and OC has grown continuously over the past 20 years.China led with 254 articles.The most prominent journals include Gynecologic Oncology, Nature, Clinical Cancer Research, Cancer Research, and Journal of Clinical Oncology.Research hotspots are: (a) ML-driven OC biomarker discovery and personalized treatment; (b) ML in tumor microenvironment analysis and resistance prediction; (c) ML in imaging-based diagnosis and risk stratification; (d) ML in multicenter OC studies. CONCLUSION ML in OC is currently in a developmental phase and shows promising potential for the future. This study provides researchers and clinicians with a more systematic understanding of research priorities and forthcoming developments in this area.

Abstract
Background The World Health Organization recommends the use of artemisinin (ART) and its derivatives for malaria treatment. Furthermore, these compounds exhibit encouraging pharmacological effects for the treatment of several diseases. Nevertheless, ongoing antimalarial treatment efforts have been significantly hindered by the emergence of drug resistance. A systematic evaluation and analysis of relevant studies may yield insights to help resolve this dilemma and reveal options for future research. Purpose The objective of this study was to provide researchers with a comprehensive synopsis of the advancements made in the study of ART and its significant derivatives, as well as to visually present the data and provide insightful observations that can inform subsequent investigations in this domain. Methods We searched the Web of Science Core Collection for relevant studies published by December 31, 2023. The research hotspots and frontiers pertinent to this field in terms of countries, institutions, authors, journals, references, and keywords were ascertained through scientometric analysis via CiteSpace software. Results This study included an extensive assemblage of 12,985 data points, and the findings suggest that ART and its derivatives have garnered considerable interest among scientists. Prolonged international collaboration has fostered progress in this research field. "Antimalarials," "synthesis," "drug resistance," and "Plasmodium vivax" are areas of intense research. Potential areas for future investigations may include "proliferation," "oxidative stress," "pathways," and "mechanisms." Conclusion This study offers a comprehensive compendium of the developments and trends in the relevant research field over the past fifty years. Since pharmaceutical drug synthesis can influence both drug efficacy and cost-effectiveness, ongoing efforts to improve drug synthesis are warranted. Although the advent of novel therapeutic approaches has partially mitigated drug resistance, further investigations into the underlying mechanisms are needed. While better treatments for malaria have been developed, the therapeutic potential of ART and its derivatives for numerous additional important diseases is also possible, and future research in this area can lead to dramatic improvements in health.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Exploring the different molecular and clinicopathological features of nodal cancer based on single cell sequencing can reveal the intertumoral heterogeneity in cancer, and provide new ideas for early diagnosis, treatment and prognosis analysis of cancer. METHODS The hotspots, the features of worldwide scientific output, and the frontiers concerning single cell sequence related to cancer from 2011 to 2024 were determined using our bibliometric analysis. Web of Science Core Collection (WOSCC) database was searched for publications on single cell sequence associated with cancer that were published between 2011 and 2024. According to the journals, keywords, number of records, affiliations, citations, and countries, we conducted a bibliometric analysis. With the use of the data gathered from the WOSCC, geographic distribution was visualized, keyword, affiliation, and author cluster analyses were conducted, and co-cited references were reviewed and a descriptive analysis was also performed. RESULTS From the analysis, it was concluded that 6189 articles that were published between 2011 and 2024 in total were identified. Frontiers in immunology is the leading journal with the most publications in field of the research. The five clusters that were identified for hotspots included immunotherapy, single-cell RNA sequencing, hepatocellular carcinoma, proliferation, gene expression appeared the most frequently. Journals, nations, organizations, scholars with most contribution and most referenced publications globally were extracted. Studies have mostly concentrated on the spatial transcriptomics, pan-cancer analysis, hepatocellular carcinoma et al. CONCLUSION Single-cell sequencing plays a significant role in tumor diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.

Abstract
Malaria has inflicted serious morbidity and mortality across the globe. The major brunt of the disease has been on African, South-East Asian and South American countries. Proportionally, malaria has attracted global research priorities and this is evident from the number of publications related to malaria from across the globe, irrespective of its endemicity. However, formal and exhaustive analyses of these 'malaria publications' are rarely reported. The systematic review and secondary data analyses were done to retrieve information on what has been published on malaria, where is it published, and which countries are major contributors to malaria research.The study presents malaria publications from 1945 to 2020 retrieved using three databases: Web of Science™, Embase® and Scopus®. Exported data were examined to determine the number of publications over time, their subject areas, contributions from various countries/organizations, and top publishing journals.The total number of published records on malaria ranged from 90,282 to 112,698 (due to three different databases). Based on the number of publications, USA, UK, France, and India were identified as the top four countries. Malaria Journal, American Journal of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, and PLoS One were the most preferred journals, whereas the University of London (Institutions other than LSHTM), the National Institute of Health, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and the University of Oxford appeared to be the top contributing organization.A disproportional contribution to malaria research was observed with non-malaria endemic countries making the largest contribution. Databases differed in their output format and needed standardization to make the outputs comparable across databases.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Stem cells have shown tremendous potential and vast prospects in the research of intervertebral disc (IVD) regeneration and repair, attracting considerable attention in recent years. In this study, a bibliometric analysis and visualization techniques were employed to probe and analyze the hotspots and frontiers of stem cell research in IVD regeneration and repair, aiming to provide valuable references and insights for further investigations. METHODS This study utilized the Science Citation Index Expanded from the Web of Science Core Collection database to retrieve and extract relevant literature records as research samples. Visual analysis tools such as VOSviewer 1.6.19, CiteSpace 6.2.R4, and bibliometric online analysis platforms were employed to construct scientific knowledge maps, providing a comprehensive and systematic exposition from various perspectives including collaboration networks, cocitation networks, and co-occurrence networks. RESULTS A total of 1075 relevant studies have been published in 303 journals by 4181 authors from 1198 institutions across 54 countries/regions. Over the past 20 years, the field of research has witnessed a significant growth in annual publications and citations. China and the United States have emerged as the primary participants and contributors, with the AO Research Institute Davos, Zhejiang University, and Tokai University being the top 3 leading research institutions. The most productive and highly cited author is Sakai D, who is regarded as a key leader in this research field. The journals with the highest number of publications and citations are Spine and Biomaterials, which are considered to be high-quality and authoritative core journals in this field. The current research focuses primarily on the sources and selection of stem cells, optimization of transplantation strategies, mechanisms of IVD regeneration, and the combined application of stem cells and biomaterials. However, there are still some challenges that need to be addressed, including posttransplantation stability, assessment of regenerative effects, and translation into clinical applications. Future research will concentrate on the diversity of stem cell sources, the application of novel biomaterials, personalized treatments, and the development of gene editing technologies, among other cutting-edge directions. CONCLUSIONS This study utilized bibliometric analysis and visualization techniques to unveil the hotspots and frontiers in the research on stem cells for IVD regeneration and repair. These research findings provide essential guidance and references for further experimental design and clinical applications. However, additional experiments and clinical studies are still needed to address the challenges and difficulties faced in the field of IVD regeneration and repair, thus offering novel strategies and approaches for the treatment of IVD diseases.

Abstract
Background Osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is a common and stubborn disease. The main causes are venous stasis of the femoral head, arterial blood supply damage, bone cell and bone marrow death, and bone tissue necrosis and subsequent repair obstacles. Over the past 22 years, the number of papers on ONFH has, overall, continued to increase. Methods Using bibliometrics, we investigated the trends, frontiers, and hotspots of global scientific output in the past 22 years. We searched Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) of the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and retrieved information associated with papers and records published between 2000 and 2021. We used VOSviewer and CiteSpace to conduct bibliometric analysis and visual analysis on the overall distribution of annual output, major countries, active institutions, journals, authors, commonly cited literature, and keywords. The impact and quality of the papers were assessed using the global citation score (GCS). Results We retrieved a total of 2006 articles and reviews. Over the past 22 years, the number of publications (NP) increased. China ranked first in terms of NP, while the United States had the highest h-index and the highest number of citations (NC). Shanghai Jiao Tong University and International Orthopaedics were the institution and periodical, respectively. The paper written by Mont et al. in 2006 had the highest total GCS score, at 379. The top three keywords were "ischemic necrosis", "osteonecrosis", and "hip joint". Although there was a fluctuation in publications associated with ONFH, overall, the NP increased. China was the most prolific in this area, while the United States was the most influential country. The top 3 authors in terms of NP were Zhang, Motomura, and Zhao. Areas of focus in ONFH over recent years include signal pathway, genetic differentiation, glucocorticoid-induced osteogenesis, induced ischemic necrosis and osteogenesis. Conclusions Our bibliometrics analysis revealed the research hotspots and rapid development trends of ONFH research in the past 22 years. The most critical indicators [researchers, countries, research institutions, and journals publishing osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) research] relevant to the research hotspots in the field of ONFH research were analyzed.

Abstract
Background Atherosclerosis (AS) is closely related to stroke and cardiovascular diseases. Nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) is the master regulator of inflammation, and thus, modulating the transcription of NF-κB can improve AS. Methods In this study, we conducted a bibliometric analysis to identify the frontiers, hotspots, and features of global research output on NF-κB in AS from 2000 to 2021. Papers published from 2000 to 2021 and the recorded information were retrieved from the Science Citation Index-Expanded of the Web of Science Core Collection. Bibliometric analysis and visualization were performed using VOSviewer and CiteSpace, including an analysis of the general distribution of annual output, highly productive countries, active journals, active institutions and authors, keywords, and co-cited references. Results A total of 5,439 original articles and reviews were retrieved and analyzed, and the results indicated that the annual number of publications on NF-κB in AS has been increasing in waves over the past 22 years. The majority of papers were published in China, while the USA had the highest number of citations and H-index. The most productive affiliation and journal were the University of California System and Arteriosclerosis Thrombosis and Vascular Biology, respectively. The papers of Chiu JJ. received the highest number of citations globally in 2011. The keywords, "nlrp3 inflammasome" and "microRNA", have recently attracted considerable attention, and very frequently occurring keywords included "NF kappa B", "atherosclerosis", "expression", "activation", "endogenous cell", and "oxidative stress". New keywords in 2021 included "muscle", "attenuates atherosclerosis", "mesenchymal transition", "metabolic disorder", and "palmitic acid". Conclusions AS and inflammation have become research hotspots lately. Over the past decade, most studies have focused on basic research, and pathways associated with the regulatory role of NF-κB in AS have become a particular focus in recent studies. Moreover, our study revealed that NF-κB plays a remarkable role in AS and may be a therapeutic target.

Abstract
Background Oxidative stress leads to an increase in reactive oxygen in the body. During heart failure (HF), when the body's antioxidant defense system fails to remove excessive reactive oxygen species, myocardial cells will be damaged or even die. Over the past ten years, the number of research publications on oxidative stress related to HF has increased. Methods We searched publications published in 2012-2021 and the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) recording information. Based on the VOSviewer and CiteSpace, we conducted a bibliometric analysis of the overall distribution of journals, keywords, authors, major countries, annual output, active institutions, and cocited literature. The Global Citation Score (GCS) was used to evaluate the impact and quality of highly cited papers. Results We retrieved 5,616 articles and reviews. Over the past ten years, the number of annual publications on oxidative stress related to HF has increased. USA has published the largest number of articles and obtained the highest number of citations (NC) and H-index. The University of California and PLoS One are the most productive affiliations and journals in terms of publications on oxidative stress related to HF. The GCS of articles written by Paulus WJ in 2013 was 1,632, which was the top ranking. The most frequent keywords are "oxidative stress", "heart failure", "inflammation", "dysfunction" and "apoptosis". The top three authors are Kang Yuming, Ren Jun and Okoshi Katashi. "Impact", "induced myocardial infarction", "cardiovascular outcome", "empagliflozin", "sglt2 inhibitor", "protect", and "Na+/H+ exchanger" have become popular research topics. Conclusions Our research shows the research focus and development trends of oxidative stress related to HF in the past decade. Understanding the most important indicators of oxidative stress related to HF and the hot spots in the field of oxidative stress research related to HF can assist scholars, countries and policy-makers in the field in better understanding oxidative stress related to HF and can also lead to better decisions in oxidative stress treatment.

Abstract
Food storage helps to ensure the food consumption needs of non-agricultural populations and to respond to major natural disasters or other emergencies, and the application of food storage technology can reduce post-harvest food losses. However, there are still obvious shortcomings in coping with large grain losses. Therefore, quantitative analysis of the research hotspots and evolutionary trends of grain storage technology is important to help the development of grain storage technology. This article uses the Web of Science database from 2007 to 2022 as a data sample with the help of CiteSpace software to analyze the basic situation, research hotspots, and evolutionary trends to draw a series of relevant knowledge maps. Visual analysis revealed that the number of publications had grown rapidly since 2015. First, the Journal of Stored Products Research, Journal of Economic Entomology, and Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, with citation frequencies of 929, 536, and 453, should be focused on in order to keep up with the latest research developments in this field. The United States, China, and Brazil occupy dominant positions in relation to grain storage technology studies in general. Purdue University, Kansas State University, and Agricultural Research Institute ranked the top three in terms of the number and centrality of publications. In terms of research hotspots, the centrality of temperature, insects, carbon dioxide, and quality were 0.16, 0.09, 0.08, and 0.08. It shows that the field of grain storage technology in recent years has focused on grain storage temperature, pest control, and grain storage quality research. From the perspective of the evolution trend, the life cycle of emergent words lasts for several years, after which the strength of emergent words slowly decreases and is replaced by new emergent words. Mortality was the first keyword to appear and remained from 2007 to 2011, indicating that research on fumigants and their toxicity, as well as pest mortality under air fumigation and chemical fumigation conditions, became more popular during this period. In recent years, new terms have emerged that had never been used before, such as "grain quality" (2019-2022) and "stability" (2020-2022). We can find that people pursue food quality more with the improvement of people's living standards. In this context, future research should seek more efficient, safe, economical, and environmentally friendly methods of grain storage and continuously improve the level of scientific grain storage.

Abstract
Background There is a crosstalk between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and gut microbiota (GM), many articles have studied and discussed the relationship between the two. The purpose of this study is to use bibliometric analysis to explore the research status and development trends of the TCM/GM research, identify and analyze the highly cited papers relating to the TCM/GM. Methods A literature search regarding TCM/GM publications from 2004 to 2021 was undertaken on August 13, 2022. The main information (full record and cited references) of publications was extracted from the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-E) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The Bibliometrix of R package, CiteSpace and VOSviewer were used for bibliometric analysis. Results A total of 830 papers were included. The publication years of papers were from 2004 to 2021. The number of papers had increased rapidly since 2018. China had the most publications and made most contributions to this field. Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and Beijing University of Chinese Medicine were in the leading productive position in TCM/GM research, Chinese Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences had the highest total citations (TC). Duan Jin-ao from Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine had the largest number of publications, and Tong Xiao-lin from China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences had the most TC. The Journal of Ethnopharmacology had the most published papers and the most TC. The main themes in TCM/GM included the role of GM in TCM treatment of glucolipid metabolism diseases and lower gastrointestinal diseases; the mechanism of interactions between GM and TCM to treat diseases; the links between TCM/GM and metabolism; and the relationship between GM and oral bioavailability of TCM. Conclusion This study gained insight into the research status, hotspots and trends of global TCM/GM research, identified the most cited articles in TCM/GM and analyzed their characteristics, which may inform clinical researchers and practitioners’ future directions.

Abstract
In the pathogenesis of melanoma, NF-κB is a key signaling pathway. Appling bibliometric analysis, we identify the frontiers and hotspots about NF-κB in melanoma, as well as distinguishing features of scientific research and output all over the world during the past 22 years. 2226 publications published from 2000 to 2021 and related information were retrieved based on Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI-expanded) of Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). VOSviewer and Citespace were used to analyze bibliometric indicators and visualize the hotspots and research trend of studies on NF-κB in melanoma. The results indicated that despite fluctuations, the number of publications (Np) related to the research of NF-κB in melanoma per year increased over the past 22 years. The USA had the most publications. H-index and the number of citations (Nc) of the USA were also in the first place. PloS One was the most productive journal, and League of European Research Universities (LERU) was the most productive affiliation. Recently, the keywords “NF-kappa-b,” “melanoma,” “apoptosis,” “expression,” “activation,” “cancer,” and “metastasis” appeared most frequently. Our study suggested that articles associated with NF-κB in melanoma tend to increase. In this field, the USA was an influential country and a big producer. Most publications focused on clinical and basic research in the past 22 years, and keywords “tumor necrosis factor” and “trail induced apoptosis” had the highest burst strength.

Abstract
BackgroundTrichinellosis is a helminthic disease caused by Trichinella spiralis via the ingestion of raw or undercooked meat of infected animals. Current estimates indicate that 11 million humans have trichinellosis, worldwide. The effective use of anti-trichinella medications is limited by side effects and resistance which highlight the critical need for safe and effective drugs, particularly those derived from medicinal plants. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the ethanolic extract of Artemisia annua (A. annua) in treatment of experimentally induced trichinellosis.Materials and methodsTrichinellosis was induced experimentally in male 6–8 weeks BALB/c mice. BALB/c mice were divided into four groups, 10 mice each. One group was left uninfected and untreated, whereas three groups were infected with T. spiralis. One infected group of mice was left untreated (negative control) while the remaining two infected groups received either 300 mg/kg of the ethanolic extract of A. annua or 50 mg/kg of albendazole (positive control). All treatments started from the third day post-infection (dpi) for 3 successive days. All animals were sacrificed on the 7th dpi for evaluation of treatment efficacy.ResultsOur findings showed that A. annua treatment reduced the T. spiralis adult-worm count in the intestine of infected animals. Moreover, treatment with A. annua restored the normal intestinal architecture, reduced edema, alleviated inflammation as demonstrated by reduced inflammatory infiltrate and expression of TGF-β in intestinal tissues of A. annua-treated animals compared to infected untreated animals.ConclusionsOur findings show that A. annua extract is effective in treating experimentally induced trichinellosis which highlight the therapeutic potential of A. annua for intestinal trichinellosis.
