Abstract
Aphasia research has traditionally been considered a (unidisciplinary) niche topic in medical science. The international Collaboration of Aphasia Trialists (CATs) is a global collaboration of multidisciplinary aphasia researchers. Over the past 10 years, CATs has collectively taken a rigorous approach to systematically address persistent challenges to aphasia research quality. This article summarizes the achievements over the past decade. CATs' achievements include: standardizing terminology, advancing aphasia research design by aphasia expert consensus recommendations, developing a core data set and intervention descriptors, facilitating the involvement of people with the language impairment aphasia in the research process, translating, and adapting assessment tools into global languages, encouraging data sharing, developing innovative secondary data analysis methodologies and promoting the transparency and accessibility of high quality aphasia research reports. CATs' educational and scientific achievements over the past 10 years far exceed what individual researchers in the field could have ever achieved.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Telerehabilitation (TR) is a promising method for facilitating the delivery and access to post-stroke rehabilitation services. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to explore the acceptability of TR and factors influencing its adoption by individuals with stroke and caregivers. METHODS A qualitative descriptive approach was used. Six individuals with stroke and three caregivers participated in individual online interviews. An abductive thematic analysis was employed to analyze the qualitative data, using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT-2) model. RESULTS Participants reported positive experiences with TR, resulting in improvements in functional abilities, such as manual dexterity, balance, and positive interactions with therapists. They found the technology easy to learn and use, facilitating engagement in TR. Participants' prior experiences with technology, along with support from caregivers and therapists, facilitated acceptance and the use of TR. The COVID-19 pandemic also motivated participants to accept TR. However, technical issues, unstable internet connections, and lack of feedback were barriers to the use of TR. CONCLUSION Despite existing obstacles, TR can be used to provide rehabilitation services for individuals with stroke. Addressing these barriers is necessary to promote the widespread and effective use of TR in the context of stroke recovery.

Abstract
The current study was a first step towards planning the implementation of tele-practice in a South Indian state's public-sector services for childhood hearing and speech, language disorders. The aim was to understand the perceptions of public-sector health care providers (HCPs) regarding their need and readiness to accept and implement tele-practice-based diagnostics and rehabilitation services. A cross-sectional study design was used, which included focus group discussions (FGDs), semi-structured interviews (SSIs) and geo-spatial analysis. Participants in the qualitative component included various cadres of health HCPs in public-sector services. Theoretical saturation and cross-case variance were used to assess the data's sufficiency. A hybrid deductive-inductive thematic analytical approach was used to analyse the data. Geo-tags and geo-locations of addresses of all children with disabilities and all the public-sector service providers were used to generate geospatial maps. The HCPs considered the currently available services for childhood hearing and speech-language disorders to be insufficient and reported shortage of professionals to meet current demands. There was inconsistent availability of suitable equipment and professionals in the existing district-level facilities. HCPs were comfortable using technology, and were willing to investigate tele-practice, but they required training in tele-practice [Q2].

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aphasia, a common consequence of stroke, which affects both communication and social functioning, and in turn, quality of life, is on the rise due to increases in stroke prevalence and survival rate. The rehabilitation of post-stroke aphasia primarily falls within the purview of speech-language pathology and research supports the effectiveness of such services. However, provision of aphasia rehabilitation services in sub-Saharan Africa is associated with challenges. AIMS This study aimed to examine rehabilitation services for individuals with post-stroke aphasia in Ghana by exploring the roles of the stakeholder groups involved in the assessment and treatment of post-stroke aphasia in Ghana, as well as the challenges they encounter in providing or identifying services. The stakeholder groups included educational institutions, interdisciplinary healthcare professionals, and family caregivers of individuals with post-stroke aphasia. METHODS & PROCEDURES A qualitative case study approach was used to collect and integrate from multiple sources data such as demographic information, interview responses and program syllabi to develop a holistic image. Fifteen respondents from the stroke and speech therapy units at Komfo Anokye and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospitals, University of Ghana, and University of Health and Allied Sciences, Ghana were purposively sampled. Interview questions were developed and centred on aphasia education and training, knowledge of speech-language pathology services, speech-language pathology service delivery, access to speech-language pathology services, challenges in both delivery and access to speech-language pathology services and suggestions for improving speech-language pathology services. In-person and virtual interviews were conducted after demographic information was collected. Interviews were analysed thematically, and demographic information and program syllabi were triangulated with the interview data collected. OUTCOMES & RESULTS All stakeholder groups identified concerns with current aphasia services in Ghana. Issues raised included the insufficient number of speech-language pathologists, lack of awareness of speech-language pathology services for post-stroke aphasia (among healthcare professionals and the public), absence of aphasia management information and clinical training in educational programming, lack of interest in speech-language pathology training programs, financial challenges, spiritual and traditional beliefs and geographic barriers (i.e., speech-language pathology services are currently available in only a few cities). CONCLUSIONS & IMPLICATIONS These findings emphasised the need to improve post-stroke aphasia rehabilitation in Ghana. The process of data collection itself educated respondents on the importance of post-stroke aphasia rehabilitation, and by identifying barriers, strategies to improving services, such as designing standardised aphasia assessments for the Ghanaian context, can now be initiated. WHAT THIS PAPER ADDS What is already known on the subject To address post-stroke aphasia, evidence-based speech-language pathology services are provided. However, there is a paucity of studies on post-stroke aphasia services in Ghana, preventing an accurate report of services and practices in the country. What this study adds This study provides an overview of the existing rehabilitation services for post-stroke aphasia in Ghana. It highlights challenges facing the existing services and suggested strategies to improve post-stroke aphasia services. What are the clinical implications of this work? The study created awareness among healthcare professionals and general public (study participants) about the importance of rehabilitation services for post-stroke aphasia. Based on the study findings, appropriate stakeholders such as policy makers, researchers, and healthcare professionals can further design assessments and interventions to improve rehabilitation, including speech-language pathology services, for post-stroke aphasia in Ghana.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Outcome measures using telerehabilitation (TR) in the context of post-stroke rehabilitation are an area of emerging research. The current review assesses the literature related to TR for patients requiring post-stroke rehabilitation. The purpose of this study is to survey the outcome measures used in TR studies and to define which parts of the International Organization of Functioning are measured in trials. METHODS TR studies were searched in Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science, The Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (Cochrane Library), the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature (CINAHL), and the Physiotherapy Evidence Database (PEDro) from 2016 to June 2023. Two reviewers individually assessed the full text. Discrepancies regarding inclusion or exclusion were resolved by an additional reviewer. RESULTS A total of 24 studies were included in the current review. The findings were synthesized and presented taking into account their implications within clinical practice, areas of investigation, and strategic implementation. CONCLUSIONS The scoping review has recognized a broad range of outcome measures utilized in TR studies, shedding light on gaps in the current literature. Furthermore, this review serves as a valuable resource for researchers and end users (such as clinicians and policymakers), providing insights into the most appropriate outcome measures for TR. There is a lack of studies examining the required follow-up after TR, emphasizing the need for future research in this area.

Abstract
Background The application of videoconferencing to the assessment and treatment of aphasia has been rapidly increasing; however, there is a need to develop treatments targeting sentence production in persons with aphasia (PWA) that can be delivered through videoconferencing. Structural priming has received recent attention as a potential training method for PWA. We investigated the feasibility and efficacy of a collaborative structural priming task delivered via the internet, TelePriming, in facilitating sentence production in PWA and healthy adults. Method In Study 1, young adults (YA), older adults (OA), and PWA participated in a collaborative dialogue-like priming task through videoconferencing, taking turns with an interlocutor (experimenter) to describe transitive action pictures with the goal of finding matching pictures. We measured whether participants produced more passive sentences to describe their picture after hearing their interlocutor produce passive compared to active sentences (primes). In Study 2, we compared the data from the OA and PWA of Study 1 (TelePriming) to different groups of OA and PWA, who completed the same priming task in person. Results All three groups showed robust priming effects in Study 1, producing more passive sentences to describe target pictures after hearing the experimenter produce passive versus active sentences. In Study 2, when controlling for demographic information (age, education) and aphasia severity, TelePriming resulted in larger priming effects for OA and PWA, compared to the in-person priming task. Survey results revealed that both OA and PWA experienced increased comfort and satisfaction with using technology following the task. Conclusion Interactive message-structure alignment processes remain largely intact in PWA, and the positive effects of structural priming in a collaborative communicative task are not diminished by remote delivery. The findings demonstrate the feasibility and validity of TelePriming in OA and PWA, laying experimental groundwork for future use of TelePriming in the assessment and treatment of clinical populations with limited access to face-to-face sessions.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Digital health interventions have potential to enhance rehabilitation services by increasing accessibility, affordability and scalability. However, implementation of digital interventions in rehabilitation is poorly understood. This scoping review aims to map current strategies, research designs, frameworks, outcomes and determinants used to support and evaluate the implementation of digital interventions in rehabilitation. DATA SOURCES Comprehensive searches from inception until October 2022 of MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, PEDro, SpeechBITE, NeuroBITE, REHABDATA, WHO International Clinical Trial Registry and the Cochrane Library. METHODS Two reviewers screened studies against the eligibility criteria. Implementation science taxonomies and methods, including Powell et al.'s compilation of implementation strategies, were used to guide analysis and synthesis of findings. RESULTS The search retrieved 13,833 papers and 23 studies were included. Only 4 studies were randomised controlled trials and 9 studies (39%) were feasibility studies. Thirty-seven discrete implementation strategies were reported across studies. Strategies related to training and educating clinicians (91%), providing interactive assistance (61%), and developing stakeholder interrelationships (43%) were most frequently reported. Few studies adequately described implementation strategies and methods for selecting strategies. Almost all studies measured implementation outcomes and determinants; most commonly, acceptability, compatibility and dose delivered of digital interventions. CONCLUSION The rigour of implementation methods in the field is currently poor. Digital interventions require carefully planned and tailored implementation to facilitate successful adoption into rehabilitation practice. To keep pace with rapidly advancing technology, future rehabilitation research should prioritise using implementation science methods to explore and evaluate implementation while testing effectiveness of digital interventions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Aphasia is a debilitating acquired language disorder that often persists as a chronic condition. However, long-term support options are scarce, necessitating the consideration of alternative approaches. Chronic condition self-management approaches, which aim to build self-efficacy and empower people to take responsibility for the day-to-day management of their health condition, may benefit people with aphasia (PwA). Technology is widely used in chronic condition self-management and investigation is required to determine whether it could play a role in aphasia self-management. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to explore speech-language pathologist (SLP) perspectives on the potential use of technology to support aphasia self-management. METHODS A qualitative study was conducted with 15 SLPs using semi-structured interviews. Qualitative content analysis was applied to verbatim transcripts to identify codes, categories, and sub-themes which were developed into themes. RESULTS Three themes were identified: (1) technology supports holistic aphasia self-management by providing additional avenues for service delivery, overall communication, and learning opportunities thus enhancing independence and life participation; (2) SLP and communication partner (CP) assistance can support PwA to use technology for aphasia self-management; (3) considerations and potential barriers to PwA use of technology for aphasia self-management. CONCLUSIONS Technology can support aphasia self-management by expanding service delivery options, allowing for increased frequency and intensity of therapy practise, and facilitating communication and participation. Personal, professional, and organizational barriers should be addressed in the development of technology-enabled aphasia self-management approaches. SLPs and CPs can offer PwA assistance with technology but may themselves need additional support. Solutions for identified barriers should be considered, such as providing training in the use of technology and implementing aphasia-friendly modifications.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATIONSelf-management approaches are being explored in the area of aphasia management as a means of offering a holistic, sustainable intervention option that meets the long-term needs of people with aphasia.A range of technology-based resources are currently used in chronic condition self-management and in aphasia therapy, and there are many possibilities for the use of technology in aphasia self-management approaches.Speech-language pathologists identified that technology could facilitate aphasia self-management by expanding service delivery options (e.g., real-time and asynchronous telepractice), enabling increased frequency and intensity of therapy through providing a means of independent practise, offering options for augmentative alternative communication, and enhancing life participation by supporting social communication and daily tasks.,Speech-language pathologists are interested in using technology for aphasia self-management; however, barriers related to organizational policies, individual experience and confidence using technology, and technology itself must be addressed.

Abstract
Telerehabilitation (TR) is a new model to provide rehabilitation services to stroke survivors. It is a promising approach to deliver mainstream interventions for movement, cognitive, speech and language, and other disorders. TR has two major components: information and communication technologies (ICTs) and stroke interventions. ICTs provide a platform on which interventions are delivered and subsequently result in stroke recovery. In this mini-review, we went over features of ICTs that facilitate TR, as well as stroke interventions that can be delivered via TR platforms. Then, we reviewed the effects of TR on various stroke disorders. In most studies, TR is a feasible and effective solution in delivering interventions to patients. It is not inferior to usual care and in-clinic therapy with matching dose and intensity. With new technologies, TR may result in better outcomes than usual care for some disorders. One the other hand, TR also have many limitations that could lead to worse outcomes than traditional rehabilitation. In the end, we discussed major concerns and possible solutions related to TR, and also discussed potential directions for TR development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability and the second leading cause of death worldwide. Teleneurology (TN) allows neurology to be applied when the doctor and patient are not present in the same place, and sometimes not at the same time. In February 2021, the Spanish Ministry of Health requested a health technology assessment report on the implementation of TN as a complement to face-to-face neurological care. METHODS A scoping review was conducted to answer the question on the ethical, legal, social, organisational, patient (ELSI) and environmental impact of TN. The assessment of these aspects was carried out by adapting the EUnetHTA Core Model 3.0 framework, the criteria established by the Spanish Network of Health Technology Assessment Agencies and the analysis criteria of the European Validate (VALues In Doing Assessments of healthcare TEchnologies) project. Key stakeholders were invited to discuss their concerns about TN in an online meeting. Subsequently, the following electronic databases were consulted from 2016 to 10 June 2021: MEDLINE and EMBASE. RESULTS 79 studies met the inclusion criteria. This scoping review includes 37 studies related to acceptability and equity, 15 studies developed during COVID and 1 study on environmental aspects. Overall, the reported results reaffirm the necessary complementarity of TN with the usual face-to-face care. CONCLUSIONS This need for complementarity relates to factors such as acceptability, feasibility, risk of dehumanisation and aspects related to privacy and the confidentiality of sensitive data.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Exercise interventions have a positive impact on people with stroke. However, access to exercise interventions is variable, and there may be a delay in the start of rehabilitation. Telerehabilitation has enabled the delivery of exercise interventions replacing the traditional face-to-face approach. Aspects related to the safety of people with stroke should be considered to avoid adverse events during the delivery of exercise interventions remotely. However, such information is scattered in the literature, and the detail with which measures taken during the implementation of exercise interventions for people with stroke are reported is unknown. OBJECTIVE To summarise measures or aspects targeted at reducing the incidence of adverse events during the delivery of exercise interventions through telerehabilitation in patients after stroke. MATERIALS AND METHODS A scoping review will be conducted. A systematic search in MEDLINE-Ovid, Embase-Ovid CENTRAL, CINAHL Complete (EBSCOhost), and other resources will be carried out. We will include primary studies, published in full text in any language, involving people with stroke who undergo telerehabilitation where exercise is the main component. Two reviewers will independently select studies and extract data, and disagreements will be resolved by consensus or a third reviewer. The results will be reported in a narrative form, using tables and figures to support them. DISCUSSION To implement this strategy within rehabilitation services, one of the first aspects to be solved is to ensure the safety of people. The results of this scoping review could contribute an information base for clinicians and decision-makers when designing remotely delivered exercise intervention programs. Abstract
Objective To scope all published information reporting on the feasibility, cost, access
to rehabilitation services, implementation processes including barriers and
facilitators of telerehabilitation (TR) in low- and middle-income countries
(LMICs) and high-income countries (HICs). Methods A comprehensive electronic search of PubMed, Scopus, PEDro, Cochrane library,
EBSCOhost (Academic search premier, Africa-wide information, CINAHL, Eric,
MEDLINE, Health sources - Nursing/Academic edition), Africa online, as well
as ProQuest databases were conducted. To maximise the coverage of the
literature, the reference lists of included articles identified through the
search were also screened. The analysis included both descriptive summary
and inductive thematic analysis. Results Twenty-nine studies were included. TR was reported to be feasible,
cost-saving and improved access to rehabilitation services in both HICs and
LMICs settings. Asynchronous methods using different mobile apps (Skype,
WhatsApp, Google meet, Facebook messenger, Viber, Face time and Emails) were
the most common mode of TR delivery. Barriers to the implementation were
identified and categorised in terms of human, organisational, technical and
clinical practice related factors. Facilitators for health professionals and
patients/caregivers’ dyads were also identified. Conclusion TR could be considered a feasible service delivery mode in both HICs and
LMICs. However, the mitigation of barriers such as lack of knowledge and
technical skills among TR providers and service users, lack of secure
platform dedicated for TR, lack of resources and connectivity issues which
are particularly prevalent in LMICs will be important to optimise the
benefits of TR.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Stroke is the main reason for disabilities worldwide leading to motor dysfunction, spatial neglect and cognitive problems, aphasia, and other speech-language pathologies, reducing the life quality. To overcome disabilities, telerehabilitation (TR) has been recently introduced. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review was to analyze current TR approaches for stroke patients’ recovery. METHODS: We searched 6 online databases from January 2018 to October 2021, and included 70 research and review papers in the review. We analyzed TR of 995 individuals, which was delivered synchronously and asynchronously. RESULTS: Findings show TR is feasible improving motor function, cognition, speech, and language communication among stroke patients. However, the dose of TR sessions varied significantly. We identified the following limitations: lack of equipment, software, and space for home-based exercises, insufficient internet capacity and speed, unavailability to provide hands on guidance, low digital proficiency and education, high cognitive demand, small samples, data heterogeneity, and no economic evaluation. CONCLUSIONS: The review shows TR is superior or similar to conventional rehabilitation in clinical outcomes and is used as complementary therapy or as alternative treatments. More importantly, TR provides access to rehabilitation services of a large number of patients with immobility, living in remote areas, and during COVID-19 pandemic or similar events.

Abstract
Background: Telepractice emerged as a solution to overcome the challenges of access issues in the delivery of healthcare. Telepractice in speech language pathology (SLP) has existed for nearly a decade yet there is a significant knowledge gap with respect to the factors influencing the implementation of telepractice as a routine or long-term, sustained effort. This mixed-methods study aimed to identify implementation factors that influence the provision of telepractice in SLP services. Method: A mixed-methods study consisting of a scoping review and semi-structured interviews (SSI) was carried out. Articles that described telepractice in SLP were included based on an operational definition of implementation and a set of inclusion criteria. Results: Data was extracted from 11 studies that were mapped to nine projects in telepractice in SLP. The broad focus areas identified included diagnostics and evaluation, therapeutics and comprehensive assessment, management and follow-up care services. Synchronous/ real-time telepractice methods were always used for the provision of diagnostic testing or when providing therapy services using video conferencing. The ‘
professional-facilitator-patient’ model was used most commonly followed by the ‘
professional-patient’ model. Barriers for long-term sustainability included inadequate initial capital investment, lack of reimbursement and payment options, low internet speed and bandwidth, resistance and hesitancy to use telepractice from the patient’s end, lack of organizational policies and uniform regulations. Sustainable source of funding, having a dedicated team of professionals and technicians with clear roles and responsibilities, and inclusion of systematic planning facilitated implementation. Conclusion: In general, telepractice in SLP was not explicitly guided by implementation science or framework. The use of implementation frameworks ensures systematic planning and feasibility assessment to inform the scale-up of implementation. Therefore, it would be worthwhile for program implementers to consider these aspects when exploring telepractice services.

Abstract
The current study is a feasibility study of a randomized controlled trial (RCT): the Child in Context Intervention (CICI). The CICI study is an individualized, goal-oriented and home-based intervention conducted mainly through videoconference. It targets children with ongoing challenges (physical, cognitive, behavioral, social and/or psychological) after acquired brain injury (ABI) and their families at least one year post injury. The CICI feasibility study included six children aged 11–16 years with verified ABI-diagnosis, their families and their schools. The aim was to evaluate the feasibility of the intervention components, child and parent perceptions of usefulness and relevance of the intervention as well as the assessment protocol through a priori defined criteria. Overall, the families and therapists rated the intervention as feasible and acceptable, including the videoconference treatment delivery. However, the burden of assessment was too high. The SMART-goal approach was rated as useful, and goal attainment was high. The parents’ ratings of acceptability of the intervention were somewhat higher than the children’s. In conclusion, the CICI protocol proved feasible and acceptable to families, schools and therapists. The assessment burden was reduced, and adjustments in primary outcomes were made for the definitive RCT.

Sustainable source of funding, having a dedicated team of professionals and technicians with clear roles and responsibilities, and inclusion of systematic planning facilitated implementation. Conclusion: In general, telepractice in SLP was not explicitly guided by implementation science or framework. The use of implementation frameworks ensures systematic planning and feasibility assessment to inform the scale-up of implementation. Therefore, it would be worthwhile for program implementers to consider these aspects when exploring telepractice services.

Feasibility, Acceptability and Limitations of Speech and Language Telerehabilitation during COVID-19 Lockdown: A Qualitative Research Study on Clinicians' Perspectives. Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic brought out the need to deliver health care services at a distance in the form of telerehabilitation (TR). This study aimed to analyse the Italian speech and language therapists' (SLTs) opinions on the feasibility of the TR in the field of speech-language therapy during the COVID-19 pandemic. We developed an anonymous survey to determine the SLTs' opinions on feasibility of TR during lockdown caused by COVID-19. We analysed the survey's answers provided by 136 SLTs. Cronbach's alpha coefficient showed good reliability of the survey. The SLTs working previously with TR showed better judgements regarding this method. The comparison analysis between TR and face-to-face treatment delivery showed statistically significant differences as follows: "importance" (4.35 vs. 3.32, p = 0.001), "feasibility" (3.37 vs. 2.11, p < 0.001), "alternative form" (3.64 vs. 2.58, p = 0.001) and "comparison" (2.24 vs. 1.69, p < 0.001), but not with "familiarity" (p = 0.81). The survey showed that most of the Italian SLTs were not satisfied with TR systems. SLTs who used TR previously had a better opinion on this treatment modality. Experience and familiarity with TR systems were key factors for the use of this new rehabilitation modality.

Abstract
Aphasia is one of the most common clinical features of functional impairment after a stroke. Approximately 21–40% of stroke patients sustain permanent aphasia, which progressively worsens one’s quality of life and rehabilitation outcomes. Post-stroke aphasia treatment strategies include speech language therapies, cognitive neurorehabilitation, telerehabilitation, computer-based management, experimental pharmacotherapy, and physical medicine. This review focuses on current evidence of the effectiveness of impairment-based aphasia therapies and communication-based therapies (as well as the timing and optimal treatment intensities for these interventions). Moreover, we present specific interventions, such as constraint-induced aphasia therapy (CIAT) and melodic intonation therapy (MIT). Accumulated data suggest that using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is safe and can be used to modulate cortical excitability. Therefore, we review clinical studies that present TMS and tDCS as (possible) promising therapies in speech and language recovery, stimulating neuroplasticity. Several drugs have been used in aphasia pharmacotherapy, but evidence from clinical studies suggest that only nootropic agents, donepezil and memantine, may improve the prognosis of aphasia. This article is an overview on the current state of knowledge related to post-stroke aphasia pharmacology, rehabilitation, and future trends.

Abstract
Background: Bilinguals with post-stroke aphasia (BWA) require treatment options that are sensitive to their particular bilingual background and deficits across languages. However, they may experience limited access to bilingual clinical resources due to reduced availability of bilingual practitioners, geographical constraints, and other difficulties. Telerehabilitation can improve access to bilingual clinical services for BWA and facilitate the delivery of specific language treatments at distance, but more evidence on its effectiveness and reliability is needed. This study aimed to determine the equivalence of effectiveness and reliability of a semantic treatment for word retrieval deficits in BWA delivered via telerehabilitation relative to in-person therapy. Methods: We examined the retrospective data of 16 BWA who received 20 sessions of therapy based on semantic feature analysis for word retrieval deficits in person (n = 8) or via telerehabilitation (n = 8). The two groups were comparable on age, years of education, time of post-stroke onset, aphasia severity, and naming ability in both languages. Treatment effectiveness (i.e., effect sizes in the treated and the untreated language, and change on secondary outcome measures) and reliability (i.e., clinician adherence to treatment protocol) were computed for each delivery modality and compared across groups. Results: Significant improvements were observed in most patients, with no significant differences in treatment effect sizes or secondary outcomes in the treated and the untreated language between the teletherapy group and the in-person therapy group. Also, the average percentage of correctly delivered treatment steps by clinicians was high for both therapy delivery methods with no significant differences between the telerehabilitation vs. the in-person modality. Discussion: This study provides evidence of the equivalence of treatment gains between teletherapy and in-person therapy in BWA and the high reliability with which treatment for word retrieval deficits can be delivered via telerehabilitation, suggesting that the essential treatment components of the intervention can be conducted in a comparable manner in both delivery modalities. We further discuss the benefits and potential challenges of the implementation of telerehabilitation for BWA. In the future, telerehabilitation may increase access to therapy for BWA with varying linguistic and cultural backgrounds, thus, offering a more inclusive treatment approach to this population.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, rehabilitation facilities have become less accessible for patients with a stroke. Lack of early, intensive rehabilitation misses the opportunity for recovery during the critical time window of endogenous plasticity and improvement post-stroke. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this commentary was to highlighting the benefits of telework and telerehabilitation programs for workers with a stroke during the COVID-19 pandemic. METHODS Relevant publications regarding the management of individuals with a stroke, telerehabilitation and teleworking in the setting of COVID-19 were reviewed. RESULTS Previous studies showed that telerehabilitation can effectively provide an alternate method of promoting recovery for patients with a stroke. With the physical distancing precautions in place for mitigating viral spread, teleworking can also provide a method for long term recovery and improvements in quality of life after a stroke. CONCLUSIONS Overall, this commentary addresses the benefits of physically distant, safe and effective alternatives to support individuals who live with a stroke during COVID-19 pandemic.
