Abstract
The long non-coding RNA HOTAIR is overexpressed in many cancers and is associated with several cancer-promoting effects, including increased cell proliferation, migration and treatment resistance. HOTAIR levels correlate with tumor stage, lymph node metastasis and overall survival in patients with various types of cancer. This highlights the potential uses of HOTAIR, including early cancer detection, predicting patient outcome, identifying high-risk individuals and assisting in therapy selection and monitoring. The aim of this review is to provide a comprehensive summary of the research progress, molecular mechanisms and clinical significance of HOTAIR in various human cancers. In addition, the clinical applications of HOTAIR, such as targeted therapy, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and immunotherapy, are discussed, and relevant information on the potential future advances of HOTAIR in cancer research is provided.

Abstract
Endocrine disorders pose significant challenges in the management of critically ill patients, contributing to morbidity and mortality in intensive care settings. Timely detection of these disorders is essential to optimizing patient outcomes. Biomarkers, as measurable indicators of biological processes or disease states, play a crucial role in the early identification and monitoring of endocrine dysfunction. This comprehensive review examines the role of biomarkers in the early detection of endocrine disorders in critical illnesses. We provide an overview of common endocrine disorders encountered in the intensive care unit (ICU) and discuss the impact of endocrine dysregulation on patient outcomes. Additionally, we classify biomarkers and explore their significance in diagnosing and monitoring endocrine disorders, including thyroid dysfunction, adrenal insufficiency, and hypopituitarism. Furthermore, we discuss the clinical applications of biomarkers, including their utility in guiding therapeutic interventions, monitoring disease progression, and predicting outcomes in critical illnesses. Emerging trends and future directions in biomarker research are also highlighted, emphasizing the need for continued investigation into novel biomarkers and technological advancements. Finally, we underscore the potential of biomarkers to revolutionize the early detection and management of endocrine disorders in critical illnesses, ultimately improving patient care and outcomes in the ICU.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The detection of disease biomarkers in biological samples plays an important role in early diagnosis and treatment of carcinoid tumor. However, due to the complexity of biological samples and the extremely low concentration of disease biomarkers, sample pretreatment is still the bottleneck of achieving accurate quantitative determination. In this work, new hydrophilic molecularly imprinted resin-hexagonal boron nitride (HMIR-h-BN) composites were developed and used as a new solid phase extraction (SPE) adsorbent for selective detection of 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA), a biomarker of carcinoid tumor, in urine. RESULTS Twenty-two types of HMIR-h-BN were successfully synthesized through growing hydrophilic molecularly imprinted resin on surface of activated two-dimensional h-BN nanosheets, and preparation parameters affecting the adsorption performance of HMIR-h-BN were investigated and optimized through adsorption experiments. HMIR-h-BN #19 (the ratio of resorcinol to hexamethylenetetramine: 6:3; the dosage of h-BN: 300 mg; the dosage of dummy template: 0.12 mmol; the imprinting time: 4 h) has demonstrated to be the optimal material for efficient separation and extraction of 5-HIAA. Combined with HPLC-UV, the limit of detection and the limit of quantification of 5-HIAA in real urine samples were 9.4 ng mL-1 and 31.3 ng mL-1, respectively, the coefficient of determination (R2) was 0.9996 in the linear range of 0.1-300 μg mL-1 and the relative recoveries ranged from 86.9 % to 97.7 % with RSD ≤5.1 %. Moreover, after being processed by HMIR-h-BN-SPE, there are no interferences from other peaks at the peak position of 5-HIAA. SIGNIFICANCE The HMIR-h-BN composite has been demonstrated to be capable of selective extraction of 5-HIAA from urine samples and have a significant purification effect. Based on the established HMIR-h-BN-SPE-HPLC-UV method, accurate quantitative determination of 5-HIAA in urine samples was achieved, which is expected to be applied in the early diagnostic of carcinoid tumor.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pancreatic cancer (PC) is highly malignant and difficult to detect, while few blood markers are currently available for diagnosing PC. METHODS We obtained differential expression genes (DEGs) from GEO (gene expression omnibus) database and assessed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR), receiver operating characteristic (ROC), univariate and multifactorial regression analysis, and survival analysis in our clinic center. Through the TCGA (the cancer genome atlas) database, we analyzed functional enrichment, different risk groups with survival analysis, immunological features, and the risk score established by the Cox regression model and constructed a nomogram. RESULT Immunoglobulin heavy constant delta (IGHD) was remarkably upregulated in peripheral blood from PC patients, and IGHD was a potential independent biomarker for PC diagnosis (ROC sensitivity, 76.0%; specificity, 74.2%; area under the curve (AUC) = 0.817; univariate logistic regression analysis: odds ratio (OR) 1.488; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.182-1.872; P < 0.001; multiple logistic: OR 2.097; 95% CI 1.276-3.389, P = 0.003). In addition, the IGHD expression was remarkably reduced after resectioning the primary tumor. High IGHD expression indicated higher lymphocyte infiltration and increased activities of immunological pathways in PC patients. KRAS and SMAD were observed with a prominent difference among top mutated genes between the two groups. The risk score predicted reliable clinical prognosis and drug responses. Furthermore, a nomogram with the risk score and clinical characteristics was constructed, showing a better predictive performance. CONCLUSION IGHD is a valuable PC diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic response marker.
