Abstract
Rising global levels of dementia including Alzheimer's disease call for the treatment of both cognitive and psychosocial deficits of this population. While there is no cure for dementia, the progression can be slowed, and symptoms eased. The positive effects of exercise and dance have been documented as has interpersonal synchrony. Dance/movement therapy uses kinesthetic empathy, attunement, and mirroring to communicate, synchronize, and connect with clients, salient for a population that often struggles with loneliness and isolation. Here I offer a perspective on how dance/movement therapy promotes the social functions and neural underpinning of interpersonal synchrony, possibly providing neuroprotection for this population.

Abstract
A risk present in medically informed psychosocial interventions for dementia, including musical interventions, is the potential to overly prioritise the reduction of cognitive decline, which can inadvertently emphasise deterioration and loss of skills and capacities. This focus can lead to disempowering people living with dementia rather than supporting and building on the skills that remain. In this paper, we present approaches linked with a more positive outlook on dementia, examining the strengths that continue in people living with dementia, as evidenced by how they engage in musical activities. We pay specific attention to how people living with dementia use embodied and relational ways of being and interacting with others, as well as the benefits that musical engagement can provide to selfhood, couplehood and agency in a context of change and adaptation due to the development of the condition. We propose a shift in perspective that takes advantage of music's affordances for embodied communication and connection, recognising people living with dementia as active agents with strengths in habituated ways of acting. With this shift we examine how couples can scaffold each other's abilities to reach towards a balanced sense of reciprocity. To further support this balanced reciprocity through embodied and relational aspects of musical participation, we make a proposal for the design of assistive music technologies that will support notions of we-perspective, joint agency and joint action, with each of these providing wellbeing benefits for people living with dementia and their carers. Drawing on the potential effects that embodiment and relationality have on agency, selfhood and couplehood in musical engagement, we present a case for reassessing the goals and design of musical activities and the technologies to support them.

Abstract
Introduction Interpersonal coordination is widely acknowledged as critical to relating with, connecting to, and understanding others, but the underlying mechanisms of this phenomenon are poorly understood. Dance-particularly improvised dance-offers a valuable paradigm for investigating the dynamics of interpersonal coordination due to its inherent ability to connect us. However, conventional approaches to studying coordination often fail to capture the co-creative spontaneity that is intrinsic to such interactions. Methods This study combined multiple measures of interpersonal coordination to detect moments of high coordination between two freely improvising dancers. We applied maximum correlation vectors, normalized Symbolic Transfer Entropy (NSTE), and surveys to analyze the time-varying dynamics of similarity in movement speeds, directed influence, and subjective perception of dancers engaged in an improvisation task. Results This multi-measure approach offers a means of capturing the interplay between different dimensions of interpersonal coordination. Discussion This approach may be used to understand the underlying mechanisms of co-creative social interactions in improvised dance and other forms of spontaneous interactivity.

Abstract
Affective computing has experienced substantial advancements in recognizing emotions through image and facial expression analysis. However, the incorporation of physiological data remains constrained. Emotion recognition with physiological data shows promising results in controlled experiments but lacks generalization to real-world settings. To address this, we present G-REx, a dataset for real-world affective computing. We collected physiological data (photoplethysmography and electrodermal activity) using a wrist-worn device during long-duration movie sessions. Emotion annotations were retrospectively performed on segments with elevated physiological responses. The dataset includes over 31 movie sessions, totaling 380 h+ of data from 190+ subjects. The data were collected in a group setting, which can give further context to emotion recognition systems. Our setup aims to be easily replicable in any real-life scenario, facilitating the collection of large datasets for novel affective computing systems.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE A growing population of those affected by serious illness, prognostic uncertainty, patient diversity, and healthcare digitalization pose challenges for the future of serious illness communication. Yet, there is paucity of evidence to support serious illness communication behaviors among clinicians. Herein, we propose three methodological innovations to advance the basic science of serious illness communication. RESULTS First, advanced computation techniques - e.g. machine-learning techniques and natural language processing - offer the possibility to measure the characteristics and complex patterns of audible serious illness communication in large datasets. Second, immersive technologies - e.g., virtual- and augmented reality - allow for experimentally manipulating and testing the effects of specific communication strategies, and interactional and environmental aspects of serious illness communication. Third, digital-health technologies - e.g., shared notes and videoconferences - can be used to unobtrusively observe and manipulate communication, and compare in-person to digitally-mediated communication elements and effects. Immersive and digital health technologies allow integration of physiological measurement (e.g. synchrony or gaze) that may advance our understanding of patient experience. CONCLUSION/PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS New technologies and measurement approaches, while imperfect, will help advance our understanding of the epidemiology and quality of serious illness communication in an evolving healthcare environment.

Abstract
When individuals share interpersonal connections, such as the bond between a mother and child or between a therapist and their client, they often exhibit measurable coordination of some physiological response patterns during their interactions known as interpersonal physiological synchrony (IPS Butler, 2011; Palumbo et al., 2016; Tscacher & Meier, 2019). However, as there is no single definition of IPS in the literature, researchers across fields have not established a standardized method for its study. This paper outlines methodological considerations that researchers should take into account when designing studies of IPS. Due to the inherent temporal component of synchrony analyses, we direct particular focus to the issue of measurement timing. Synchrony is described across multiple physiological processes, including electrodermal skin activation, cardiac function, respiration, and neural oscillatory activity, and we make specific recommendations for each. Across physiological measures and analytic strategies, we recommend that when determining an experimental timeframe in which to isolate periods of dyadic IPS, researchers should account for the timing of both the biological systems of interest and the psychological processes theorized to underlie their activity in that particular context. In adopting this strategy, researchers can ensure that they capture all of the fluctuations associated with a psychological process of interest and can add to the growing body of literature examining physiological correlates of interpersonal bonds.
