Abstract
Background Previous studies based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging(rs-fMRI) and voxel-based morphometry (VBM) have demonstrated significant abnormalities in brain structure and resting-state functional brain activity in patients with early-onset schizophrenia (EOS), compared with healthy controls (HCs), and these alterations were closely related to the pathogenesis of EOS. However, previous studies suffer from the limitations of small sample sizes and high heterogeneity of results. Therefore, the present study aimed to effectively integrate previous studies to identify common and specific brain functional and structural abnormalities in patients with EOS. Methods The PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), and WanFang databases were systematically searched to identify publications on abnormalities in resting-state regional functional brain activity and gray matter volume (GMV) in patients with EOS. Then, we utilized the Seed-based d Mapping with Permutation of Subject Images (SDM-PSI) software to conduct a whole-brain voxel meta-analysis of VBM and rs-fMRI studies, respectively, and followed by multimodal overlapping on this basis to comprehensively identify brain structural and functional abnormalities in patients with EOS. Results A total of 27 original studies (28 datasets) were included in the present meta-analysis, including 12 studies (13 datasets) related to resting-state functional brain activity (496 EOS patients, 395 HCs) and 15 studies (15 datasets) related to GMV (458 EOS patients, 531 HCs). Overall, in the functional meta-analysis, patients with EOS showed significantly increased resting-state functional brain activity in the left middle frontal gyrus (extending to the triangular part of the left inferior frontal gyrus) and the right caudate nucleus. On the other hand, in the structural meta-analysis, patients with EOS showed significantly decreased GMV in the right superior temporal gyrus (extending to the right rolandic operculum), the right middle temporal gyrus, and the temporal pole (superior temporal gyrus). Conclusion This meta-analysis revealed that some regions in the EOS exhibited significant structural or functional abnormalities, such as the temporal gyri, prefrontal cortex, and striatum. These findings may help deepen our understanding of the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms of EOS and provide potential biomarkers for the diagnosis or treatment of EOS.

Abstract
Deficits in social cognition (SC) interfere with recovery in schizophrenia (SZ) and may be related to resting state brain connectivity. This study aimed at assessing the alterations in the relationship between resting state functional connectivity and the social-cognitive abilities of patients with SZ compared to healthy subjects. We divided the brain into 246 regions of interest (ROI) following the Human Healthy Volunteers Brainnetome Atlas. For each participant, we calculated the resting-state functional connectivity (rsFC) in terms of degree centrality (DC), which evaluates the total strength of the most powerful coactivations of every ROI with all other ROIs during rest. The rs-DC of the ROIs was correlated with five measures of SC assessing emotion processing and mentalizing in 45 healthy volunteers (HVs) chosen as a normative sample. Then, controlling for symptoms severity, we verified whether these significant associations were altered, i.e., absent or of opposite sign, in 55 patients with SZ. We found five significant differences between SZ patients and HVs: in the patients' group, the correlations between emotion recognition tasks and rsFC of the right entorhinal cortex (R-EC), left superior parietal lobule (L-SPL), right caudal hippocampus (R-c-Hipp), and the right caudal (R-c) and left rostral (L-r) middle temporal gyri (MTG) were lost. An altered resting state functional connectivity of the L-SPL, R-EC, R-c-Hipp, and bilateral MTG in patients with SZ may be associated with impaired emotion recognition. If confirmed, these results may enhance the development of non-invasive brain stimulation interventions targeting those cerebral regions to reduce SC deficit in SZ.

Abstract
A growing number of evidence supports a continued distribution of autistic traits in the general population. However, brain maturation trajectories of autistic traits as well as the influence of sex on these trajectories remain largely unknown. We investigated the association of autistic traits in the general population, with longitudinal gray matter (GM) maturation trajectories during the critical period of adolescence. We assessed 709 community-based adolescents (54.7% women) at age 14 and 22. After testing the effect of sex, we used whole-brain voxel-based morphometry to measure longitudinal GM volumes changes associated with autistic traits measured by the Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS) total and sub-scores. In women, we observed that the SRS was associated with slower GM volume decrease globally and in the left parahippocampus and middle temporal gyrus. The social communication sub-score correlated with slower GM volume decrease in the left parahippocampal, superior temporal gyrus, and pallidum; and the social cognition sub-score correlated with slower GM volume decrease in the left middle temporal gyrus, the right ventromedial prefrontal and orbitofrontal cortex. No longitudinal association was found in men. Autistic traits in young women were found to be associated with specific brain trajectories in regions of the social brain and the reward circuit known to be involved in Autism Spectrum Disorder. These findings support both the hypothesis of an earlier GM maturation associated with autistic traits in adolescence and of protective mechanisms in women. They advocate for further studies on brain trajectories associated with autistic traits in women.
