Abstract
Cryopreservation of cells, tissues, and organs is widely used in the biomedical and research world. There are different cryopreservatives that are used for this process; however, many of them, such as DMSO, are used despite the problems they present, mainly due to the toxicity it presents to certain types of samples. The aim of this Review is to highlight the different types of substances used in the cryopreservation process. It has been shown that some of these substances are well-known, as in the case of the families of alcohols, sugars, sulfoxides, etc. However, in recent years, other compounds have appeared, such as ionic liquids, deep eutectic solvents, or certain polymers, which open the door to new cryopreservation methods and are also less toxic to frozen samples.

Abstract
Semen preservation is a significant biotechnology used to safeguard the genetic material of birds, especially those with declining populations, through biobanking. However, there are limited reports on the successful chilling or cryopreservation of wild bird semen. In general, these techniques are not yet well-established for several species of wild birds and pose several challenges such as the need for bird handling and training, contamination of semen samples, low volume of semen collected, and inefficient preservation protocols. To address these challenges and improve post-thawing outcomes, new possibilities are being investigated, including alternative collection methods to traditional digital massage, the use of antioxidants and enzymes in the medium for chilling or freezing, storage methods using different straws from the usual pellet, and slower freezing rates. This review aims to discuss the various aspects of applying semen preservation in wild birds to create germplasm banks, highlighting the primary results obtained and the challenges that need to be addressed.

Abstract
The purpose of the project is to establish a standardized operation method of the in vitro permeability model to maximize mucosal integrity and viability. The model drug lidocaine permeability, 20 kDa fluorescein isothiocyanate-dextran, H&E staining, and mucosal viability were used as evaluation indicators. Firstly, the buccal mucosae of rats, rabbits, dogs, porcine, and humans were analyzed by H&E staining and morphometric analysis to compare the differences. Then, we studied a series of operation methods of isolated mucosa. The buccal mucosae were found to retain their integrity in Kreb's bicarbonate ringer solution at 4 °C for 36 h. Under the long-term storage method with program cooling, freezing at -80 °C, thawing at 37 °C, and using cryoprotectants of 20% glycerol and 20% trehalose, mucosal integrity and biological viability can be maintained for 21 days. The heat separation method was used to prepare a permeability model with a mucosal thickness of 500 μm, which was considered to be the optimal operation. In summary, this study provided an experimental basis for the selection and operation of in vitro penetration models, standardized the research process of isolated mucosa, and improved the accuracy of permeability studies.

Abstract
There is a remarkable diversity in the animal kingdom regarding mechanisms underlying the production, maturation, structure, and function of sperm cells. Spermatology studies contribute to the knowledge of species diversity and also provide information about individual or population fitness. Furthermore, this fundamental research is required before collected spermatozoa can be used for conservation breeding, including assisted reproduction and cryobanking. This article aims to (a) review the most recent knowledge on sperm morphology and function in wild animal species, (b) analyze how this knowledge can be used to save species in their natural habitat or ex situ, and (c) propose future scientific directions in wildlife spermatology that could positively impact animal conservation. Variations in sperm structure and performance within and between species have multiple origins and significance. This collective body of knowledge enables the design and implementation of conservation strategies and action plans that integrate several disciplines.
