Abstract
Cinnamomum osmophloeum, commonly known as indigenous cinnamon, is a tree species native to Taiwan's hardwood forests. It has been extensively investigated for its chemical composition and bioactivities. Several reports have shown that C. osmophloeum leaves are rich in aromatic oils, which are grouped into various chemotypes based on their major constituents. Components of the volatile oils included phenylpropanoids, monoterpenoids, sesquiterpenoids, phenols, coumarins, and other miscellaneous compounds. In addition, other secondary metabolites previously identified in this species included flavonol glycosides, phenolic acids, lignans, proanthocyanidins, and cyclopropanoids. C. osmophloeum is widely recognized for its medicinal and industrial applications, particularly its essential oils. In general, essential oils exhibit remarkable anti-inflammatory and antioxidant actions, enabling them to modulate key inflammatory mediators and neutralize free radicals. This review explored the phytochemical composition of the essential oils and extracts from C. osmophloeum as well as therapeutic potential of this species, focusing on the action mechanisms and clinical potential. We hope that this review will contribute to a better understanding of the biological effects of this plant and its potential applications in the management of conditions associated with inflammation and oxidative stress.

Abstract
Cinnamic acids are aromatic acids primarily found in plants and plant-derived food. Phenolic cinnamic acids, with one or more hydroxyl groups in the aromatic ring, often contribute to the biological activities attributed to these compounds. The presence of hydroxyl groups and a carboxyl group makes cinnamic acids very hydrophilic, preventing them from crossing biological membranes and exerting their biological activities. To alleviate this condition, a panel of synthetic modifications have been made leading to a diverse set of phenolic cinnamic structures. In this review, an overview of the natural phenolic cinnamic acid derivatives and their plant sources (more than 200) is described. The synthetic approaches to obtain the referred derivatives (more than 200) namely esters and amides are reviewed. Further, their anti-inflammatory activity (more than 70 compounds) is scrutinized. Finally, future directions will be indicated to translate the research on phenolic cinnamic derivatives into potentially effective anti-inflammatory drugs.

Abstract
Acetamiprid (ACDP) is a widely used neonicotinoid insecticide that is popular for its efficacy in controlling fleas in domestic settings and for pets. Our study aims to offer a comprehensive examination of the toxicological impacts of ACDP and the prophylactic effects of cinnamon nanoemulsions (CMNEs) on the pathological, immunohistochemical, and hematological analyses induced by taking ACDP twice a week for 28 days. Forty healthy rats were divided into four groups (n = 10) at random; the first group served as control rats; the second received CMNEs (2 mg/Kg body weight); the third group received acetamiprid (ACDP group; 21.7 mg/Kg body weight), and the fourth group was given both ACDP and CMNEs by oral gavage. Following the study period, tissue and blood samples were extracted and prepared for analysis. According to a GC-MS analysis, CMNEs had several bioactive ingredients that protected the liver from oxidative stress by upregulating antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. Our findings demonstrated that whereas ACDP treatment considerably boosted white blood cells (WBCs) and lymphocytes, it significantly lowered body weight gain (BWG), red blood cells (RBCs), hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit (HCT), and platelets (PLT). ACDP notably reduced antioxidant enzyme activities: superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and catalase (CAT) and elevated hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde levels compared with other groups. ACDP remarkably raised alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate amino transaminase (AST), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) levels.Moreover, the histopathological and immunohistochemistry assays discovered a severe toxic effect on the liver and kidney following ACDP delivery. Furthermore, cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) + immunoexpression was enhanced after treatment with CMNEs. All of the parameters above were returned to nearly normal levels by the coadministration of CMNEs. The molecular docking of cinnamaldehyde with COX-2 also confirmed the protective potential of CMNEs against ACDP toxicity. Our findings highlighted that the coadministration of CMNEs along with ACDP diminished its toxicity by cutting down oxidative stress and enhancing antioxidant capacity, demonstrating the effectiveness of CMNEs in lessening ACDP toxicity.

Abstract
This study was conducted to compare the impact of cinnamon silver nanoparticles (C-Ag-NPs) and cinnamon aqueous extract (CAE) on the total body weight (TBW), body weight gain (BWG), blood count (BC), fasting blood glucose (FBG), triglycerides (TGs), total cholesterol (TC), low-density (LDL-C) and high-density (HDL-C) lipoprotein cholesterol, liver function enzymes, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) of normal and streptozotocin (STZ) diabetic rats. The CAE was administered to rats at different doses (50.0 and 100.0 mg/kg bw), whereas the C-Ag-NPs were ingested at doses of 25.0 and 50.0 mg/kg bw for 30 days. At the end of the experiment, the administration of high or low dosages of CAE or C-Ag-NPs to diabetic rats significantly reduced the FBG, TC, TG, and LDL-C and significantly increased the HDL-C compared with the diabetic control rats. The highest dose (50.0 mg/kg bw) of the C-Ag-NPs was the most efficient at significantly reducing (P < 0.05) the levels of all the analyzed parameters compared with the CAE. However, the treated and normal rats did not show any hypoglycemic activity after ingesting the CAE or C-Ag-NPs. Such effects were associated with considerable increases in their BWG. The diabetic rats that ingested the CAE or C-Ag-NPs showed a gradual decrease in their FBG, TC, LDL, and TG levels, but they were still higher than those in the normal rats. Furthermore, the C-Ag-NPs and CAE considerably enhanced the hepatic (GPT, GOT, ALP, and GGT) and antioxidant biomarker enzyme activities (SOD, CAT, and GPx) in diabetic rats. Relative to the untreated diabetic control, the C-Ag-NPs were more effective than the CAE in the diabetic rats. The C-Ag-NPs exhibited a protective role against hyperglycemia and hyperlipidemia in the diabetic rats and modulated their liver function enzyme biomarkers and antioxidant enzyme activities more than the CAE.

Abstract
This study aims to isolate collagen peptides from waste sturgeon fish skin, and prepare nanoemulsions for studying their anti-diabetic and wound-healing effects in mice. Collagen peptides were extracted and purified by acetic acid with sonication, followed by two-stage hydrolysis with 0.1% pepsin and 5% flavourzyme, and ultrafiltration with 500 Da molecular weight (MW) cut-off dialysis membrane. Animal experiments were performed with collagen peptides obtained by pepsin hydrolysis (37 kDa) and pepsin plus flavourzyme hydrolysis (728 Da) as well as their nanoemulsions prepared at two different doses (100 and 300 mg/kg/day). The mean particle size of low-MW and low-dose nanoemulsion, low-MW and high-dose nanoemulsion, high-MW and low-dose nanoemulsion and high-MW and high-dose nanoemulsion was, respectively, 16.9, 15.3, 28.1 and 24.2 nm, the polydispersity index was 0.198, 0.215, 0.231 and 0.222 and zeta potential was -61.2, -63.0, -41.4 and -42.7 mV. These nanoemulsions were highly stable over a 90-day storage period (4 °C and 25 °C) and heating at 40-100 °C (0.5-2 h). Experiments in mice revealed that the low-MW and high-dose nanoemulsion was the most effective in decreasing fasting blood glucose (46.75%) and increasing wound-healing area (95.53%). Collectively, the sturgeon fish skin collagen peptide-based nanoemulsion is promising for development into a health food or wound-healing drug.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cinnamomum osmophloeum Kanehira (C. osmophloeum), a broad-leaved tree species of Taiwan, contains phenolic acids, flavonoids, and phenylpropanoids such as cinnamaldehyde and cinnamic acid in leaves. Many reports have shown that the cinnamon leaf extract possesses anti-inflammatory, hypoglycemic, hypolipidemic and neuroprotective functions. This study aims to analyze bioactive compounds in C. osmophloeum (cinnamon leaves) by UPLC-MS/MS and prepare hydrosol, cinnamon leaf extract and cinnamon leaf nanoemulsion for comparison in improving Parkinson's disease (PD) in rats. METHODS After extraction and determination of total phenolic and total flavonoid contents, cinnamaldehyde and the other bioactive compounds were analyzed in cinnamon leaves and hydrosol by UPLC-MS/MS. Cinnamon leaf nanoemulsion was prepared by mixing a suitable proportion of cinnamon leaf extract, soybean oil, lecithin, Tween 80 and deionized water, followed by characterization of particle size and polydispersity index by dynamic light scattering analyzer, particle size and shape by transmission electron microscope, encapsulation efficiency, as well as storage and heating stability. Fifty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats aged 8 weeks were divided into seven groups with group 1 as control (sunflower oil) and group 2 as induction (2 mg/kg bw rotenone in sunflower oil plus 10 mL/kg bw saline), while the other groups including rotenone injection (2 mg/kg bw) followed by high-dose of 60 mg/kg bw (group 3) or low-dose of 20 mg/kg bw (group 4) for tube feeding of cinnamon leaf extract or cinnamon leaf nanoemulsion at the same doses (groups 5 and 6) every day for 5 weeks as well as group 7 with rotenone plus hydrosol containing 0.5 g cinnamon leaf powder at a dose of 10 mL/kg bw. Biochemical analysis of brain tissue (striatum and midbrain) was done to determine dopamine, α-synuclein, tyrosine hydroxylase, superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione peroxidase and malondialdehyde contents by using commercial kits, while catalepsy performed by bar test. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION An extraction solvent of 80% ethanol was found to be the most optimal with a high yield of 15 bioactive compounds being obtained following UPLC analysis. A triple quadrupole tandem mass spectrometer with electrospray ionization mode was used for identification and quantitation, with cinnamaldehyde present at the highest amount (17985.2 µg/g). The cinnamon leaf nanoemulsion was successfully prepared with the mean particle size, zeta potential, polydispersity index and encapsulation efficiency being 30.1 nm, -43.1 mV, 0.149 and 91.6%, respectively. A high stability of cinnamon leaf nanoemulsion was shown over a 90-day storage period at 4 and heating at 100 for 2 h. Animal experiments revealed that the treatments of cinnamon leaf extract, nanoemulsion and hydrosol increased the dopamine contents from 17.08% to 49.39% and tyrosine hydroxylase levels from 17.07% to 25.59%, while reduced the α-synuclein levels from 17.56% to 15.95% in the striatum of rats. Additionally, in the midbrain of rats, an elevation of activities of superoxide dismutase (6.69-16.82%), catalase (8.56-16.94%), and glutathione peroxidase (2.09-16.94%) was shown, while the malondialdehyde content declined by 15.47-22.47%. Comparatively, the high-dose nanoemulsion exerted the most pronounced effect in improving PD in rats and may be a promising candidate for the development of health food or botanic drug.

Abstract
Rabbiteye blueberry leaves, a waste produced after harvest of blueberry, are rich in polyphenols. This study aims to analyze phenolic acids and flavonoids in blueberry leaves by UPLC-MS/MS and prepare nanoemulsions for determining anti-aging activity in mice. Overall, 30% ethanol was the most suitable extraction solvent for total phenolic acids and total flavonoids. A total of four phenolic acids and four flavonoids were separated within seven minutes for further identification and quantitation by UPLC-MS/MS in selective reaction monitoring (SRM) mode, with 3-O-caffeoylquinic acid being present in the highest amount (6474.2 μg/g), followed by quercetin-3-O-galactoside (1943.9 μg/g), quercetin-3-O-rutinoside (1036.6 μg/g), quercetin-3-O-glucoside (867.2 μg/g), 5-O-caffeoylquinic acid (815.8 μg/g), kaempferol-3-O-glucoside (309.7 μg/g), 3,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (195.3 μg/g), and 4,5-dicaffeoylquinic acid (60.8 μg/g). The blueberry nanoemulsion was prepared by using an appropriate ratio of soybean oil, Tween 80, glycerol, ethanol, and water at 1.2%, 8%, 2%, 2%, and 86.8%, respectively, and mixing with dried blueberry extract, with the mean particle size and zeta potential being 16 nm and -54 mV, respectively. A high stability was observed during storage of nanoemulsion for 90 days at 4 °C and heated at 100 °C for 2 h. An animal study revealed that this nanoemulsion could elevate dopamine content in mice brain as well as superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase, and catalase activities in mice liver while reducing the contents of malondialdehyde and protein carbonyl in mice brains. Collectively, the high-dose nanoemulsion possessed the highest efficiency in improving mice aging with a promising potential for development into a health food.

Abstract
The technologies for fabrication of nanocrystals have an immense potential to improve solubility of a variety of the poor water-soluble drugs with subsequent enhanced bioavailability. Repaglinide (Rp) is an antihyperglycemic drug having low bioavailability due to its extensive first-pass metabolism. Microfluidics is a cutting-edge technique that provides a new approach for producing nanoparticles (NPs) with controlled properties for a variety of applications. The current study’s goal was to engineer repaglinide smart nanoparticles (Rp-Nc) utilizing microfluidic technology (Dolomite Y shape), and then to perform in-vitro, in-vivo, and toxicity evaluations of them. This method effectively generated nanocrystals with average particle sizes of 71.31 ± 11 nm and a polydispersity index (PDI) of 0.072 ± 12. The fabricated Rp’s crystallinity was verified by Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). In comparison to the raw and commercially available tablets, the fabricated Rp’s nanoparticles resulted in a higher saturation solubility and dissolving rate (p < 0.05). Rp nanocrystals had a considerably lower (p < 0.05) IC50 value than that of the raw drug and commercial tablets. Moreover, Rp nanocrystals at the 0.5 and 1 mg/kg demonstrated a significant decrease in blood glucose level (mg/dL, p < 0.001, n = 8) compared to its counterparts. Rp nanocrystals at the 0.5 mg/kg demonstrated a significant decrease (p < 0.001, n = 8) in blood glucose compared to its counterparts at a dose of 1 mg/kg. The selected animal model’s histological analyses and the effect of Rp nanocrystals on several internal organs were determined to be equivalent to those of the control animal group. The findings of the present study indicated that nanocrystals of Rp with improved anti-diabetic properties and safety profiles can be successfully produced using controlled microfluidic technology, an innovative drug delivery system (DDS) approach.
