Abstract
Ultrasonography (US) or diagnostic sonography is a radiographic technique that uses sound waves with frequencies higher than 20 kHz to demonstrate soft tissues such as muscles, internal organs, joints, and tendons. The US has various applications in dentistry such as cervical lymph node examination, salivary gland examination, periodontal examination, maxillofacial fracture examination, temporomandibular joint examination, and orofacial swelling examination. One of the most important advantages of the US is it does not produce any ionizing radiation. Since the US does not produce any ionizing radiation, it is a favorable technique especially for the patients who are susceptible to ionizing radiation such as pregnant patients and pediatric patients. In this article, we presented benign tumor lesions that were examined with the US in children and conducted a review of the literature.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The treatments with clear aligners (CA) showed an exponential higher percentage in the last years being almost invisible with major patient acceptability and a resulting improvement in quality of life. CA are composed of thermoplastic polyurethane not inert but subjected to changes due to heating and humidity, chewing forces, and prolonged exposure to enzymes in saliva in the oral cavity and external factors. Cigarette smoke (CS) and the aerosol produced by tobacco products with reduced health risks may be considered among the external factors affecting CA. The purpose of this study was the assessment of optical properties (absorbance and transmittance) and roughness of CA after in vitro aging due to exposition to CS and THS2.2, compared to controls. The secondary objective will be the investigation of CS and THS2.2 effects on resin composite inside aligners used for attachments during treatment with CA. METHODS A total number of 60 CA units will be used and equally divided in three different groups (20 in each): CS group exposed to reference cigarettes smoking, THS2.2 group exposed to aerosol from 20 heat-not-burn sticks, and control group, CG to pure air only. The aligners will present ten introflection for the attachments on the anterior part. In accordance with ISO standard 3402, 3R4F cigarettes and THS2.2 tobacco sticks must undergo conditioning for a minimum of 48 hours and a maximum of 21 days at a temperature of 22±1 °C and a relative humidity of 60±3%. RESULTS Using spectrophotometry, the optical characteristics (absorbance and transmittance) of each aligner will be evaluated after aging (Jasco UV-vis V630PC, Tokyo, Japan). Each aligner will be cut with a rotating saw from canine to canine prior to the measurements in order to lop off the lingual region and displaying the labial barrier. The absorbance and transmittance measurements will be collected and statistically analyzed with a significance of P<0.05. CONCLUSIONS Surface roughness of the aligners and attachments inside them will be assessed by 3D scanning microscopy (Infinite Focus G4h). Color of resin composite will be assessed using the (CIE Lab) Commission Internationale de l'Eclairage L*a*b* color space by means of Olympus CrystalEyef dental spectrophotometer. Clinicians should advise patients to refrain from smoking and drinking coffee or tea while wearing aligners for two reasons: first, the color change is unacceptably noticeable when wearing aligners, and second, the material's chemical composition may be slightly altered, which could affect the intended dental movements.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The primary objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of SEC III (Splints, Class III Elastics, and Chin cup) protocol on the upper airway dimensions using lateral cephalometric radiographs. The secondary objectives were to evaluate the skeletal and dental effects of the SEC III protocol using lateral cephalometric radiographs. METHODS The pre- and post-treatment lateral cephalometric radiographs of 24 patients treated using the SEC III protocol were used to address the aim of the study. Children in the pre-pubertal (CS-1 or CS-2) or circumpubertal (CS-3 or CS-4) skeletal maturation stage and having class III dentoskeletal malocclusion were included in the study. Patients with a history of previous orthodontic treatment, maxillofacial surgery or trauma, tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, or craniofacial malformations were excluded. The pre-treatment and post-treatment lateral cephalometric radiographs were traced, then airway measurements, skeletal measurements, and dental measurements were performed. The results were analysed using paired samples t-test or Wilcoxon signed rank test according to the data normality. RESULTS Data of 6 males and 18 females were analysed (Mean age = 11.21 ± 1.02 years). Duration of active treatment was 5.75 ± 1.03 months. Treatment using SEC III protocol resulted in a significant increase in ANB angle (2.92 ± 1.50 degrees, p < 0.001) and Wits appraisal (3.31 ± 1.99 mm) (p < 0.001). The increase in the mandibular plane angle (0.75 ± 1.42 degrees, p = 0.02) and the maxillary length (2.29 ± 2.69 mm, p < 0.001) was statistically significant. Contrarily, the mandibular length did not change significantly (p = 0.10). The maxillary incisors were significantly proclined (4.38 ± 4.28 degrees; p < 0.001), while the mandibular incisors were significantly retroclined (-5.79 ± 6.21 degrees; p < 0.001) following treatment. The change in the nasopharyngeal airway and the retropalatal airway was not statistically significant. The middle and inferior pharyngeal space (retroglossal airway) significantly decreased by 1.33 ± 1.97 mm (p = 0.003) and 1.96 ± 2.48 mm (p = 0.001), respectively. CONCLUSIONS Early class III correction using SEC III protocol reduced the retroglossal airway dimensions but did not affect the nasopharyngeal and retropalatal airway dimensions. Correction of the class III dentoskeletal relationship was obtained through both skeletal and dental changes.

Abstract
Periodontal disease is a risk factor for many systemic diseases including preterm birth and underweight birth. The purpose of this systematic review is to analyze the literature and to highlight any clinical correlation. Information sources such as PubMed, MEDLINE, and Web of Science were consulted to obtain our results with these keywords "periodontal disease," "pregnancy," "weight loss" using the connector "AND." After the first screening by authors, only 27 articles were included in this review. From the analysis of the literature, it was noted that the presence of periodontal disease could have a correlation with underweight birth. Surely, control oral hygiene and oral health is essential during pregnancy to reduce risks, and these results should be essential in establishing a protocol to be maintained during pregnancy.

Abstract
Background Nevoid Basal Cell Carcinoma Syndrome (NBCCS) is an autosomal dominant syndrome that has various expressions in each patient. Generally; NBCCS is followed by multiple nevoid basal cell carcinoma of the skin, orbital anomalies, skeletal anomalies, central nervous system anomalies and multiple odontogenic keratocysts (OK). NBCCS is usually diagnosed between the ages of 5-30 years, with multiple basal cell carcinomas of the skin and OKs in the jaws as the initial findings. The purpose of this paper is to describe and compare the radiographic findings of the OKs in NBCCS patients in the literature with additional cases. Materials and Methods In this study, we evaluated the OKs of the patients with NBCCS in PubMed Database with 5 additional cases from our database. A total of 305 articles were found and the articles in English with full-text access were evaluated. Results Despite all limitations for a fair discussion; we would like to state that among 59 cases that specified whether a 3D or 2D imaging modality was used, 29 cases were only interpreted with 2D data which should be avoided in OK evaluation. Discussion According to the World Health Organization's Classification of Head and Neck Tumours Book which was published in 2017, OKs in NBCCS has a higher chance to have small satellite cystic lesions which increase their recurrence possibility post-operatively, thus, a thorough clinical and 3D radiographic evaluation should be performed both to NBCCS patients and non-syndromic OK patients to avoid any recurrence. Conclusion High recurrence rates of OKs should be reminded all the time. Radiographic examinations with 3D imaging modalities should be done in patients with NBCCS in order to provide a concise diagnosis and optimum treatment.

Abstract
An estimated 8 to 15% of women, and 3 to 10% of men currently suffer from Temporomandibular disorders, and it has been reported that sounds are a common finding and have been observed in 28% to 50% of the adult population; sounds are almost always connected to "internal derangements" a condition in which the articular disk displaced from its position on the mandibular condyle. Due to the multifactorial etiology of temporomandibular joint dysfunction, any accurate diagnosis based on clinical examination alone often proves to be difficult, so a clinical examination should be utilized together with other imaging methods to determine the relationship between the disk and condyle before and after treatment. In general, management of temporomandibular joint-related conditions is necessary when pain or dysfunction is present, so many surgical or nonsurgical methods of treatment have been reported. The Occlusal splint is 1 of the most widespread treatment it induces a slight vertical condylar distraction and eliminates the occlusal factor, which can be responsible for Temporomandibular joint disturbances, removing the influence of the teeth on the joint position by the slight distraction of the joint which, in turn, enables damaged connective tissue to heal.

Abstract
The majority of patients strongly favor the use of aligners in the present time, especially with the advancement in esthetic dentistry. Today's market is flooded with aligner companies, many of which share the same therapeutic ethos. We therefore carried out a systematic review and network meta-analysis to evaluate research that had looked at various aligner materials and attachments and their effect on orthodontic tooth movement in relevant studies. A total of 634 papers were discovered after a thorough search of online journals using keywords such as "Aligners", "Orthodontics", "Orthodontic attachments", "Orthodontic tooth movement", and "Polyethylene" across databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Cochrane. The authors individually and in parallel carried out the database investigation, removal of duplicate studies, data extraction, and bias risk. The statistical analysis demonstrated that the type of aligner material had a significant impact on orthodontic tooth movement. The low level of heterogeneity and significant overall effect further support this finding. However, there was little effect of attachment size or shape on tooth mobility. The examined materials were primarily concerned with influencing the physical/physicochemical characteristics of the appliances and not tooth movement directly. Invisalign (Inv) had a higher mean value than the other types of materials that were analyzed, which suggested a potentially greater impact on orthodontic tooth movement. However, its variance value indicated that there was also greater uncertainty associated with the estimate compared to some of the other plastics. These findings could have important implications for orthodontic treatment planning and aligner material selection. Abstract
BACKGROUND It is aimed to investigate whether there was a difference in radiographic changes in the operational areas between genioplasty alone and genioplasty combined with mandibular advancement and to evaluate the fractal dimension (FD) to assess trabecular changes after genioplasty surgery. METHODS Preoperative-(T0) and postoperative-(T1) panoramic radiographs of 26 patients without any complications who underwent genioplasty combined with bilateral sagittal osteotomy and mandibular advancement or genioplasty alone were selected. In the panoramic radiographs of both groups, the genial segment, mandibular angulus, and surgical osteotomy line were examined using FD. The box-counting method was used for FD evaluation. RESULTS It was determined that FD values before and after treatment were similar in both groups for all regions where measurements were made. After surgery, the FD values of the middle region of the genial segment were found to be significantly lower than the other regions. At T1, the FD values at the osteotomy area were found to be significantly higher than those in the middle region of the genial segment. CONCLUSION Trabecular structure does not differ in patients undergoing genioplasty alone or in combination with mandibular advancement osteotomy. The middle region of the genial segment heals later than other regions.

Abstract
This study aimed to assess orthodontic postgraduate students' use of social media during the COVID-19 lockdown. Ninety-four postgraduate students (67 master's students and 27 doctoral students) were enrolled in the study and asked to fill in an online questionnaire by answering questions regarding their use of social media during the COVID-19 lockdown. The frequency distributions and percentages were calculated using SPSS software. The results showed that 99% of the students used social media. The most frequently used type of social media was Facebook, 94%, followed by YouTube, 78%, and Instagram, 65%, while Twitter and Linkedin were used less, and no one used Blogger. About 63% of the students used elements of social media to learn more about orthodontics staging, biomechanics, and various approaches in managing orthodontic cases. About 56% of students tried uploading and downloading scientific papers, lectures, movies, presentations, and e-books from social media, while communication with professionals and searches about orthodontic products were reported in 47% of students' responses. On the other hand, 43% of the responses favored sharing orthodontic information and posts for teaching and discussion purposes. Generally, social media plays leading roles in the communication with, learning of, sharing of information with, and supervision of patients from a far during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Abstract
AIM To evaluate and compare the clinical outcomes of Cention-N (CN) and stainless steel crowns (SSCs) as restorations for pulpotomised primary molars, and to study clinical and radiographic outcomes of pulpotomies restored with these materials. METHODS The study was conducted on 60 pulpotomised molars with occlusoproximal caries. These were randomly divided into two groups and restored with either stainless steel crowns or Cention-N. Clinical performance of restorations and clinical and radiographic success of pulpotomy was examined at 6, 9 and 12 months. RESULTS The mean scores for marginal integrity deteriorated significantly at 6, 9 and 12 months in both groups but in comparison were insignificant. The mean for proximal contact deteriorated significantly for the Cention-N group, whereas the mean for gingival health deteriorated remarkably for the stainless steel crown group at successive evaluations. No tooth in either group showed secondary caries or discomfort on biting, except for one tooth in Cention-N group which presented with secondary caries. The clinical success rate for pulpotomised molars was 100% for both groups until nine months, although this had reduced by the end of 12 months. Radiographically, the success rate was 79.3% for Cention-N, while it was 86.6% for stainless steel crowns at 12 months. There was no significant difference in clinical and radiographic success between either group. CONCLUSION Cention-N and stainless steel crowns are comparable for marginal integrity. However, crowns maintain significantly better proximal contacts while Cention-N was notably better for gingival health of the restored tooth. Both materials do not show secondary caries and discomfort on biting and are comparable in clinical and radiographic success of pulpotomy at the end of one year.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compare the changes of palatal volume and area in patients treated with tooth-tissue-borne palatal expanders (conventional Haas) and miniscrew-supported palatal expanders (modified Haas). MATERIALS AND METHODS The sample included casts of 22 patients treated as part of a clinical study at the Department of Orthodontics, Al-Azhar University, to correct their crossbite malocclusion. Patients were divided equally into two groups upon arrival. The first group, with a mean age of 12 years and 6 months, received the miniscrew-supported palatal expander. The second group, with a mean age of 12 years and 2 months, received the Haas design-palatal expansion appliance. Pre- and post-expansion dental casts were cone beam computed tomography scanned and the slices were constructed into 3D volumes. Fully automated superimposition was done for pre- and post-expansion 3D models. Palatal volume and area were determined, and all measurements were carried out blindly. Paired t-test was used to assess the mean differences within each group and Welch's t-test was applied to assess the mean changes between the two groups. Shapiro-Wilk test was used to test for the normality of the data. RESULTS There were no statistical differences in volume changes either within each group or between the groups. Although area changes were statistically significant within each group, the difference between the groups was not significant. CONCLUSIONS Changes that result from the use of either method to expand the upper arch occur primarily in the shape of the palate, but not in its size.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Beta-thalassemia (BT) has a high prevalence in Mediterranean, Southeast Asian, and African countries. Studies stated that thalassemia is an endemic disease that causes significant health problems in Cyprus. This study aimed to measure the contact angle between the implant and blood samples from BT major patients and healthy individuals to compare the contact angles and wettability of Grade 5 titanium implant surfaces. Materials and Methods: Grade 5 titanium discs that were 10 mm in diameter were used since they mimic the surface of dental implants. Following receiving informed consent, blood samples were taken from the patients’ index fingers in each group with lancet needles and a photo of the contact angle between the blood samples and the titanium surface was taken; the collected blood was transferred to a titanium disc with a medical pipette. ImageJ software with a specific contact angle plugin was used for the contact angle measurements. Results: Theta-mean, theta-circular, and theta-ellipse values were compared between all groups, and no significant difference was found (p > 0.05). Conclusions: In this study, it was hypothesized that the patients’ rheological property of decreased deformability would affect the wettability of implant surfaces in vitro; however, no such finding was reached in this study. Since in-depth studies associated with dental implant success in BTM patients are absent in the literature and Cyprus is one of the Mediterranean countries with a high prevalence of BTM, this study was conducted to enrich the literature. While some systemic diseases may affect the contact angle between the implant surface and blood, it can be concluded that this condition was not present for BTM patients in our study. Last but not least, we emphasize that this experiment was done on a single surface type and the results can be totally different when using other surface types.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Edentulism conducts to a recognized impairment of oral function with both aesthetic and psychological changes. These patients suffer from a multiplicity of problems with their dentures, such as insufficient stability, retention and pain during mastication. The rehabilitation of a part edentulous patient can be established using a wide range of prosthetic treatment options. The overdenture treatment uses a removable total denture that overlies retained teeth, tooth roots, or dental implants. In the literature it was shown that patients with removable overdentures supported and retained either by tooth roots or implants have more predictable prosthodontic outcomes. OBJECTIVE The aim of this review is to provide an overview on the overdenture with a focus on the tooth-supported telescopic overdenture. METHODS The literature research was performed in the Scopus, Web of Science, and Pubmed electronic databases. Document type was limited to papers written in English, without time restrictions. The Review was recorded in the international PROSPERO (International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews) database with the following number CRD42022326415. RESULTS A total of 256 articles published were found from electronic searches, Two independent reviewers carried out the screening and the selection process for the studies. First, duplicate citations were eliminated. Then, the two Authors independently screened the retrieved articles by title and abstract of each citation to determine its suitability for inclusion. Finally, 13 full-text articles satisfied the inclusion criteria. CONCLUSION Prostheses supported by Frictional telescopic crowns offer an effective treatment alternative for patients with Severely reduced dentitions who do not want implant treatment or complete dentures.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to create a 3D printing material with bioactive properties that potentially could be used for a transparent removable orthodontic appliance. MATERIALS AND METHODS To acrylic monomers, four bioactive glasses at 10% concentration were added, which release Ca, P, Si and F ions. The materials were printed on a 3D printer and tested for flexural strength (24 h and 30 days), sorption and solubility (7 days), ion release to artificial saliva pH = 4 and 7 (42 days) and cytotoxicity in the human fibroblast model. The released ions were determined by plasma spectrometry (Ca, P and Si ions) and ion-selective electrode (F measurement)s. RESULTS The material obtained released Ca2+ and PO43- ions for a period of 42 days when using glass Biomin C at pH 4. The flexural strength depended on the direction in which the sample was printed relative to the 3D printer platform. Vertically printed samples had a resistance greater than 20%. The 10% Biomin C samples post-cured for 30 min with light had a survival rate of the cells after 72 h of 85%. CONCLUSIONS Material for 3D printing with bioactive glass in its composition, which releases ions, can be used in the production of orthodontic aligners.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Dental implants provide a suitable and reliable treatment for the replacement of missing teeth. Very few studies have been reported in the literature regarding the application of dental implants in growing and developing patients. OBJECTIVE: This systematic review with meta-analysis aimed to systematically review the available literature regarding the application of dental implants in growing and developing patients. METHODS: A detailed search in the literature was performed with the help of keywords such as dental implants, treatment planning, children, adolescents, growing patients, and developing jaws. PubMed, Scopus, Web of Sciences, and Ovidsp databases were searched for papers published between 1980 and 2021. The papers focused on children, adolescents, developing jaws, and implants. In this systemic review, the dataset concerned with the type of study, aim, number of patients and specimens included, age of patients, total number of implants placed, total number of implants evaluated, medical history of developmental disorders of teeth such as ectodermal dysplasia, congenital absence of teeth, were evaluated. RESULTS: Out of the total literature searched, 33.45% of studies and case reports documented no complications in any implant treatment. In 47.21% of studies and case reports, there was both success and failure of implants while in 13.21% of studies and case reports there was a complete failure of implants. The most common cause for loss of permanent teeth in growing children and adolescent patients was dental trauma (73.13%) followed by congenital developmental disturbance of teeth (18.19%). CONCLUSION: It can be concluded from this systematic review that the use of implants in edentulous growing patients is determined by several parameters, including the patient’s overall health, the stage of jaw growth, the number of teeth to be replaced, and soft and hard tissue anatomic features. Still, the use of a conservative treatment strategy for missing teeth management in patients with developing jaws is common and recommended until the patient’s growth is completed, as there are chances of changes in the position of dental implants placed in the developing and growing jaws due to the continuous changes taking place in their body. However, placement of implants can be done in these patients successfully with proper treatment planning and taking into account the phase of growth with proper follow-up.

Abstract
Objectives. This study evaluated the use and preference of different types of functional appliances among a sample of Iraqi orthodontists. Materials and Methods. About 200 orthodontists were invited to fill out an online Google form questionnaire with multiple-choice questions. The questions were modified from previous England and Malaysian studies. The data were tabulated as frequency tables. Results. The response rate was 61%. About 91.80% of the participants used functional appliances, with the removable type being the most used. The twin block was thought to be the best compliance one but not the most used functional appliance. About 62% depended on the clinical observations in determining the growth spurt and asked patients to wear the appliance full-time except at meal time. The majority preferred a period of retention of about 4–6 months and frequent visits for adjustments. Conclusions. Removable functional appliances are the most frequently used among the studied sample.

Abstract
Objective. Impacted canines are one of the significant challenges in orthodontics that should be appropriately assessed to provide the best treatment to the patients. Materials and Methods. In the present study, 57800 patients were examined over six years to investigate the prevalence, diagnostic procedures, and treatment methodologies for impacted canine cases. Prevalence and diagnosis were tested using history taking, clinical examination, and three-dimensional cone-beam radiographs. The cases were tested for impaction site, gender, age, signs, and symptoms. The groups were classified for impaction location according to Mupparapu’s classification. Result. The causative factors and the treatment methodology selected were plotted according to age and gender distribution. The total prevalence was 3.9% of canine impaction cases in relation to the total sample cases. The results showed a strong correlation between the site of impaction toward the upper arch and with distribution following Mupparapu’s classification. The pain was the most detectable complication in all age groups, while root resorption was the least. Conclusion. Most of the younger age groups were sent for exposure and orthodontic traction, while the mid-aged groups elected for observation, and follow-up as their primary concern was esthetics. However, the adult patients were into exposure and traction to improve their function.

Abstract
Deep bites can be treated by the intrusion of anterior teeth and the extrusion of the posterior teeth, or both, according to the exposure of the incisors in the smile. The aim of this paper is to propose a protocol to improve the effectiveness of deep bite treatments. Orthodontic movements are programmed following the “frog staging” protocol for the anterior teeth, the application of retention attachments and the overengineered final setup. Two case reports described the clinical and radiographic changes with orthodontic treatment using Invisalign clear aligners by applying this protocol.

Abstract
Introduction: Several strategies have been proposed in the literature to accelerate tooth movement, many of which are invasive and have numerous side effects, such as surgical techniques (corticotomy and piezocision technique). This research investigates to what extent diathermy can accelerate the orthodontic alignment phase. Materials and Methods: A patient with lower teeth crowding index of the same magnitude was selected. The orthodontic treatment with Nickel–Titanium (NiTi) thermal arc 0.015 in the lower arch was performed, associated with a weekly application of diathermy using the intraoral handpiece. The total duration of treatment was three weeks. During each session, an intraoral transducer was employed to stimulate the hard and soft tissues of the left dental hemiarch, which was also orthodontically aligned like the right one. Results: Comparing the tooth movements of four elements of the two hemiarchies, it was found that, overall, the two teeth examined on the treated side underwent a more significant number of changes than on the untreated side, although not by a significant amount. Conclusions: The use of diathermy, according to the authors, is a non-invasive approach that may speed up the orthodontic alignment phase and reduce treatment duration, resulting in a lower risk of caries, gingival recessions, root resorptions, and patient compliance improvement, without side effects. Further studies and an adequate sample size will be needed to confirm the findings.
