Abstract
Background Retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is a rare retinal dystrophy often underrepresented in ophthalmology education. Despite advancements in diagnostics and treatments like gene therapy, RP knowledge gaps persist. This study assesses the efficacy of AI-assisted teaching using ChatGPT compared to traditional methods in educating students about RP. Methods A quasi-experimental study was conducted with 142 medical students randomly assigned to control (traditional review materials) and ChatGPT groups. Both groups attended a lecture on RP and completed pre- and post-tests. Statistical analyses compared learning outcomes, review times, and response accuracy. Results Both groups significantly improved in post-test scores (p < 0.001), but the ChatGPT group required less review time (24.29 ± 12.62 vs. 42.54 ± 20.43 min, p < 0.0001). The ChatGPT group also performed better on complex questions regarding advanced RP treatments, demonstrating AI's potential to deliver accurate and current information efficiently. Conclusion ChatGPT enhances learning efficiency and comprehension of rare diseases like RP. A hybrid educational model combining AI with traditional methods can address knowledge gaps, offering a promising approach for modern medical education.

Abstract
The term inherited retinal dystrophies (IRDs) refers to a diverse range of conditions characterized by retinal dysfunction, and mostly deterioration, leading to a gradual decay of the visual function and eventually to total vision loss. IRDs have a global impact on about 1 in every 3000 to 4000 individuals. However, the prevalence statistics might differ significantly depending on the exact type of dystrophy and the demographic being examined. The cellular pathophysiology and genetic foundation of IRDs have been extensively studied, however, knowledge regarding associated refractive errors remain limited. This review aims to clarify the cellular and molecular processes that underlie refractive errors in IRDs. We did a thorough search of the current literature (Pubmed, accession Feb 2024), selecting works describing phenotypic differences among genes-related to IRDs, particularly in relation to refractive errors. First, we summarize the wide range of IRDs and their genetic causes, describing the genes and biological pathways connected to the etiology of the disease. We then explore the complex relationship between refractive errors and retinal dysfunction, including how the impairment of the vision-related mechanisms in the retina can affect ocular biometry and optical characteristics. New data about the involvement of aberrant signaling pathways, photoreceptor degeneration, and dysfunctional retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in the development of refractive errors in IRDs have been examined. We also discuss the therapeutic implications of refractive defects in individuals with IRD, including possible approaches to treating visual impairments. In addition, we address the value of using cutting-edge imaging methods and animal models to examine refractive errors linked to IRDs and suggest future lines of inquiry for identifying new targets for treatment. In summary, this study presents an integrated understanding of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying refractive errors in IRDs. It illuminates the intricacies of ocular phenotypes in these conditions and offers a tool for understanding mechanisms underlying isolated refractive errors, besides the IRD-related forms.

Abstract
Retinitis pigmentosa, or RP, is a group of inherited retinal degenerations involving progressive loss of photoreceptor cells- rods and cones- ultimately causing severe vision loss and blindness. RP, although a very common ailment, continues to be an incurable disease with little to be done medically. However, with the breakthroughs in gene therapy and stem cell transplantation in recent years, a new door has been opened to the treatment of RP. This narrative review summarizes the pathomolecular mechanisms of RP, focusing on the genetic and molecular abnormalities that lead to the process of retinal degeneration. In this section, we talk about the current theories of how RP develops, gene mutations, oxidative stress, and inflammation. We also delve into new therapeutic approaches such as gene therapy, stem cell transplantation and genome surgery, which are designed to either replace or repair the damaged photoreceptors to restore vision and ultimately enhance the life of the RP patient. Another topic covered is the obstacles and research frontiers of these revolutionary treatments. This article is intended to give a complete overview of the molecular processes of RP and the promising treatment strategies that could change the way this devastating disease is treated.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The development and use of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) in regenerative medicine have been revolutionary, offering significant advancements in treating various diseases. These pluripotent cells, derived from early human embryos, are central to modern biomedical research. However, their application is mired in ethical and regulatory complexities related to the use of human embryos. METHOD This review utilized key databases such as ClinicalTrials.gov, EU Clinical Trials Register, PubMed, and Google Scholar to gather recent clinical trials and studies involving hESCs. The focus was on their clinical application in regenerative medicine, emphasizing clinical trials and research directly involving hESCs. RESULTS Preclinical studies and clinical trials in various areas like ophthalmology, neurology, endocrinology, and reproductive medicine have demonstrated the versatility of hESCs in regenerative medicine. These studies underscore the potential of hESCs in treating a wide array of conditions. However, the field faces ethical and regulatory challenges, with significant variations in policies and perspectives across different countries. CONCLUSION The potential of hESCs in regenerative medicine is immense, offering new avenues for treating previously incurable diseases. However, navigating the ethical, legal, and regulatory landscapes is crucial for the continued advancement and responsible application of hESC research in the medical field. Considering both scientific potential and ethical implications, a balanced approach is essential for successfully integrating hESCs into clinical practice.

Abstract
Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) is an inherited retinal dystrophy (IRD) that causes progressive visual loss. Patients suffering from RP have a substantial influence on their everyday activities, social contacts, and jobs, lowering their quality of life. Frequent referral delays, as well as the lack of a standard therapy for the majority of patients, contribute to the significant unmet demand for RP. Any retinal injury has the potential to result in total blindness and visual impairment. Despite the fact that there is no cure for RP, people can manage it using rehabilitation programs and low-vision gadgets. The purpose of this research is to characterize the expanding treatment landscape for RP, as well as the justification for advanced therapy medicinal products (ATMPs). Vitamin A supplements can help prevent the sluggish visual loss caused by a prevalent kind of RP. The presence of visual purple in the rods and the underlying vascular choroid causes the retina to look purplish red. The major portion of the retina damaged is the rod photoreceptor electric cell; the development of diverse diseases is progressive. Because of the retina's accessibility, immunological privilege, and compartmentalization, hereditary retinal diseases are amenable to cell and gene therapy. Therapeutic techniques that attempt to rescue photoreceptors (gene therapies) require the existence of non-functional target cells, but other therapies (cell therapies) do not require the presence of live photoreceptors. To provide successful therapy choices for RP patients at all disease phases, the development pipeline must be continually diversified and advanced, as well as ongoing efforts to encourage early patient identification and quick diagnosis. Future research will focus on avoiding vision loss in genetic eye illnesses and assisting patients in regaining their eyesight. Retinal implants, cell therapies, supplementary medications, and gene therapies may become common treatments for reducing vision loss in the future.
