Abstract
Osteoarthritis occurs in any joints, and identification in its earlier stages helps to treat the disease and increase the recovery rate. The radiography method and imaging techniques are traditionally used to identify osteoarthritis. But these methods are expensive, and with the complicated steps. Researchers are working toward developing a highly sensitive biosensor in identifying the osteoarthritis biomarker. This research was focused on developing a C-terminal telopeptide of type II collagen (CTX-II) colorimetric sensor with gold nanoparticle (AuNP) for diagnosing osteoarthritis. Anti-CTX-II was conjugated with AuNP and then added with CTX-II and sodium chloride for the color change. In the presence of CTX-II, antibody releases from AuNP then binds with CTX-II, and the color of AuNP changed to purple. Without the CTX-II, AuNP remains its red color (dispersed). This easier colorimetric assay detected the CTX-II as low as 2 ng/mL on linear regression [y = 0.0131x - 0.0051; R2 = 0.9205]. Furthermore, control performances with the relevant proteins osteopontin, IL-6, and nonimmune antibody failed to change the color confirming the specific identification of CTX-II.

Abstract
Objective The present study was undertaken to assess the clinical significance of action research-based seamless care to improve imaging efficiency and alleviate patient anxiety. Methods A total of eighty patients who underwent imaging examinations in our hospital between May 2019 and November 2020 were recruited for this study. The patients were randomly assigned to two groups: the control group receiving routine care and the observation group receiving seamless care based on action research. The random assignment was conducted using a simple random sampling technique, ensuring an equal allocation of participants to each group at a 1:1 ratio, resulting in 40 cases in each group. Outcome measures included imaging examination duration, mean nursing duration, examination cognition, and negative emotion scores. Results Seamless care provided shorter imaging examination duration and nursing duration, and better ensured uneventful examinations than routine care (P<0.05). Patients given seamless care exhibited higher examination cognition versus those receiving routine care (P<0.05). Seamless care offered more mitigation of negative emotions for patients than routine care (P<0.05). Conclusion Action research-based seamless care effectively improves imaging efficiency and patients' awareness of imaging examinations and contributes to alleviating patients' adverse events.

Abstract
The most common induction methods for OA are mechanical, surgical and chemical. However, there is not a gold standard in the choice of OA animal models, as different animals and induction methods are helpful in different contexts. Reporting the latest evidence and results in the literature could help researchers worldwide to define the most appropriate indication for OA animal-model development. This review aims to better define the most appropriate animal model for various OA conditions. The research was conducted on the following literature databases: Medline, Embase, Cinahl, Scopus, Web of Science and Google Scholar. Studies reporting cases of OA in animal models and their induction from January 2010 to July 2021 were included in the study and reviewed by two authors. The literature search retrieved 1621 articles, of which 36 met the selection criteria and were included in this review. The selected studies included 1472 animals. Of all the studies selected, 8 included information about the chemical induction of OA, 19 were focused on mechanical induction, and 9 on surgical induction. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy that several induction models, mechanical, surgical and chemical, have been proven suitable for the induction of OA in animals.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a frequently observed condition in aged people. OA cartilage is characterized by chondrocyte apoptosis, chondrocyte inflammation, and hyperactive catabolism of extracellular matrix. However, the specific molecular mechanisms remain unclear. Recent data has shown that Angptl4, a multifunctional cytokine, is involved in the regulation of inflammatory and apoptosis responses in different tissues. This study is aimed at defining the role of Angptl4 in the development of OA. We employed X-ray analysis, safranin O-fast green (S-O) staining, and hematoxylin staining to evaluate histomorphological characteristics in the knee joint of mice. Real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction, Western blot assays, immunofluorescence staining, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA) were performed to analyze the changes in gene and protein expression. Mechanically, our data demonstrated that Angptl4 knockdown improved the degradation of extracellular matrix and reduced TNF-α-mediated chondrocyte inflammation and apoptosis by suppressing sirtuin 1/NF-κB signaling pathway. In addition, animal studies showed that the suppression of Angptl4 expression might alleviate OA development. In conclusion, our findings revealed the underlying mechanisms of Angptl4 regulation in chondrocytes and its potential value in the treatment of OA.

Abstract
PURPOSE A healthy musculoskeletal system requires complex functional integration of bone, muscle, cartilage, and connective tissues responsible for bodily support, motion, and the protection of vital organs. Conditions or injuries to musculoskeeltal tissues can devastate an individual's quality of life. Some conditions that are particularly disabling include severe bone and muscle injuries to the extremities and amputations resulting from unmanageable musculoskeletal conditions or injuries. Monitoring and managing musculoskeletal health is intricate because of the complex mechanobiology of these interconnected tissues. METHODS For this article, we reviewed literature on implantable biosensors related to clinical data of the musculoskeletal system, therapeutics for complex bone injuries, and osseointegrated prosthetics as example applications. RESULTS As a result, a brief summary of biosensors technologies is provided along with review of noteworthy biosensors and future developments needed to fully realize the translational benefit of biosensors for musculoskeletal health. CONCLUSIONS Novel implantable biosensors capable of tracking biophysical parameters in vivo are highly relevant to musculoskeletal health because of their ability to collect clinical data relevant to medical decisions, complex trauma treatment, and the performance of osseointegrated prostheses.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Rotator cuff disease (RCD) is a prominent musculoskeletal pain condition that spans a variety of pathologies. The etiology and precise diagnostic criteria of this condition remain unclear. The current practice of investigating the biochemical status of RCD is by conducting biopsy studies but their invasiveness is a major limitation. Recent biochemical studies on RCD demonstrate the potential application of serological tests for evaluating the disease which may benefit future clinical applications and research. This systematic review is to summarize the results of available studies on serological biochemical investigations in patients with RCD. Methods: An electronic search on databases PubMed and Virtual Health Library was conducted from inception to 1 September 2021. The inclusion criteria were case-control, cross-sectional, and cohort studies with serological biochemical investigations on humans with RCD. Methodological quality was assessed using the Study Quality Assessment Tool for Observational Cohort and Cross-sectional studies from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. Results: A total of 6008 records were found in the databases; of these, 163 full-text studies were checked for inclusion and exclusion criteria. Nine eligible studies involving 984 subjects with RCD emerged from this systematic review. The quality of the studies found ranged from poor to moderate. In summarizing all the studies, several fatty acids, nonprotein nitrogen, interleukin-1 β, interleukin-8, and vascular endothelial growth factor were found to be significantly higher in blood samples of patients with RCD than with control group patients, while Omega-3 Intex, vitamin B12, vitamin D, phosphorus, interleukin-10, and angiogenin were observed to be significantly lower. Conclusions: This is the first systematic review to summarize current serological studies in patients with RCD. Results of the studies reflect several systemic physiological changes in patients with RCD, which may prove helpful to better understand the complex pathology of RCD. In addition, the results also indicate the possibility of using serological tests in order to evaluate RCD; however, further longitudinal studies are required.

Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a prevalent chronic whole-joint disease characterized by low-grade systemic inflammation, degeneration of joint-related tissues such as articular cartilage, and alteration of bone structures that can eventually lead to disability. Emerging evidence has indicated that synovium or articular cartilage-secreted extracellular vesicles (EVs) contribute to OA pathogenesis and physiology, including transporting and enhancing the production of inflammatory mediators and cartilage degrading proteinases. Bioactive components of EVs are known to play a role in OA include microRNA, long non-coding RNA, and proteins. Thus, OA tissues-derived EVs can be used in combination with advanced nanomaterial-based biosensors for the diagnostic assessment of OA progression. Alternatively, mesenchymal stem cell- or platelet-rich plasma-derived EVs (MSC-EVs or PRP-EVs) have high therapeutic value for treating OA, such as suppressing the inflammatory immune microenvironment, which is often enriched by pro-inflammatory immune cells and cytokines that reduce chondrocytes apoptosis. Moreover, those EVs can be modified or incorporated into biomaterials for enhanced targeting and prolonged retention to treat OA effectively. In this review, we explore recently reported OA-related pathological biomarkers from OA joint tissue-derived EVs and discuss the possibility of current biosensors for detecting EVs and EV-related OA biomarkers. We summarize the applications of MSC-EVs and PRP-EVs and discuss their limitations for cartilage regeneration and alleviating OA symptoms. Additionally, we identify advanced therapeutic strategies, including engineered EVs and applying biomaterials to increase the efficacy of EV-based OA therapies. Finally, we provide our perspective on the future of EV-related diagnosis and therapeutic potential for OA treatment.

Abstract
The aim of this review is to assess the use of biosensors in the diagnosis and monitoring of joint infection (JI). JI is worldwide considered a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in developed countries. Due to the progressive ageing of the global population, the request for joint replacement increases, with a significant rise in the risk of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). Nowadays, the diagnosis of JI is based on clinical and radiological findings. Nuclear imaging studies are an option but are not cost-effective. Serum inflammatory markers and the analysis of the aspirated synovial fluid are required to confirm the diagnosis. However, a quick and accurate diagnosis of JI may remain elusive as no rapid and highly accurate diagnostic method was validated. A comprehensive search on Medline, EMBASE, Scopus, CINAH, CENTRAL, Google Scholar, and Web of Science was conducted from the inception to June 2021. The PRISMA guidelines were used to improve the reporting of the review. The MINORS was used for quality assessment. From a total of 155 studies identified, only four articles were eligible for this study. The main advantages of biosensors reported were accuracy and capability to detect bacteria also in negative culture cases. Otherwise, due to the few studies and the low level of evidence of the papers included, it was impossible to find significant results. Therefore, further high-quality studies are required.
