Hybrid deep learning-based skin cancer classification with RPO-SegNet for skin lesion segmentation

Skin melanin lesions are typically identified as tiny patches on the skin, which are impacted by melanocyte cell overgrowth. The number of people with skin cancer is increasing worldwide. Accurate and timely skin cancer identification is critical to reduce the mortality rates. An incorrect diagnosis can be fatal to the patient. To tackle these issues, this article proposes the Recurrent Prototypical Object Segmentation Network (RPO-SegNet) for the segmentation of skin lesions and a hybrid Deep Learning (DL) - based skin cancer classification. The RPO-SegNet is formed by integrating the Recurrent Prototypical Networks (RP-Net), and Object Segmentation Networks (O-SegNet). At first, the input image is taken from a database and forwarded to image pre-processing. Then, the segmentation of skin lesions is accomplished using the proposed RPO-SegNet. After the segmentation, feature extraction is accomplished. Finally, skin cancer classification and detection are accomplished by employing the Fuzzy-based Shepard Convolutional Maxout Network (FSCMN) by combining the Deep Maxout Network (DMN), and Shepard Convolutional Neural Network (ShCNN). The established RPO-SegNet+FSCMN attained improved accuracy, True Negative Rate (TNR), True Positive Rate (TPR), dice coefficient, Jaccard coefficient, and segmentation analysis of 91.985%, 92.735%, 93.485%, 90.902%, 90.164%, and 91.734%.

An intelligent framework for skin cancer detection and classification using fusion of Squeeze-Excitation-DenseNet with Metaheuristic-driven ensemble deep learning models

Skin cancer is the most dominant and critical method of cancer, which arises all over the world. Its damaging effects can range from disfigurement to major medical expenditures and even death if not analyzed and preserved timely. Conventional models of skin cancer recognition require a complete physical examination by a specialist, which is time-wasting in a few cases. Computer-aided medicinal analytical methods have gained massive popularity due to their efficiency and effectiveness. This model can assist dermatologists in the initial recognition of skin cancer, which is significant for early diagnosis. An automatic classification model utilizing deep learning (DL) can help doctors perceive the kind of skin lesion and improve the patient's health. The classification of skin cancer is one of the hot topics in the research field, along with the development of DL structure. This manuscript designs and develops a Detection of Skin Cancer Using an Ensemble Deep Learning Model and Gray Wolf Optimization (DSC-EDLMGWO) method. The proposed DSC-EDLMGWO model relies on the recognition and classification of skin cancer in biomedical imaging. The presented DSC-EDLMGWO model initially involves the image preprocessing stage at two levels: contract enhancement using the CLAHE method and noise removal using the wiener filter (WF) model. Furthermore, the proposed DSC-EDLMGWO model utilizes the SE-DenseNet method, which is the fusion of the squeeze-and-excitation (SE) module and DenseNet to extract features. For the classification process, the ensemble of DL models, namely the long short-term memory (LSTM) technique, extreme learning machine (ELM) model, and stacked sparse denoising autoencoder (SSDA) method, is employed. Finally, the gray wolf optimization (GWO) method optimally adjusts the ensemble DL models' hyperparameter values, resulting in more excellent classification performance. The effectiveness of the DSC-EDLMGWO approach is evaluated using a benchmark image database, with outcomes measured across various performance metrics. The experimental validation of the DSC-EDLMGWO approach portrayed a superior accuracy value of 98.38% and 98.17% under HAM10000 and ISIC datasets across other techniques.

A new feature selection approach with binary exponential henry gas solubility optimization and hybrid data transformation methods

In the common classification practices, feature selection is an important aspect that highly impacts the computation efficacy of the model, while implementing complex computer vision tasks. The metaheuristic optimization algorithms gain popularity to obtain optimal feature subset. However, the feature selection using metaheuristics suffers from two common stability problems, namely premature convergence and slow convergence rate. Therefore, to handle the stability problems, this paper presents a fused dataset transformation approach by joining weighted Principal Component Analysis and Fast Independent Component Analysis Techniques. The presented method solves the stability issues by first transforming the original dataset, thereafter newly proposed variant of Henry Gas Solubility Optimization is employed for obtaining a new feature's subset. The proposed method has been compared with other metaheuristic approaches across seven benchmark datasets and observed that it selects better features set which improves the accuracy and computational complexity of the model.
