A Non-Contact Integrated Body-Ambient Temperature Sensors Platform to Contrast COVID-19

Non-Contact Infrared Thermometers and Thermal Scanners for Human Body Temperature Monitoring: A Systematic Review

In recent years, non-contact infrared thermometers (NCITs) and infrared thermography (IRT) have gained prominence as convenient, non-invasive tools for human body temperature measurement. Despite their widespread adoption in a range of settings, there remain questions about their accuracy under varying conditions. This systematic review sought to critically evaluate the performance of NCITs and IRT in body temperature monitoring, synthesizing evidence from a total of 72 unique settings from 32 studies. The studies incorporated in our review ranged from climate-controlled room investigations to clinical applications. Our primary findings showed that NCITs and IRT can provide accurate and reliable body temperature measurements in specific settings and conditions. We revealed that while both NCITs and IRT displayed a consistent positive correlation with conventional, contact-based temperature measurement tools, NCITs demonstrated slightly superior accuracy over IRT. A total of 29 of 50 settings from NCIT studies and 4 of 22 settings from IRT studies achieved accuracy levels within a range of ±0.3 °C. Furthermore, we found that several factors influenced the performance of these devices. These included the measurement location, the type of sensor, the reference and tool, individual physiological attributes, and the surrounding environmental conditions. Our research underscores the critical need for further studies in this area to refine our understanding of these influential factors and to develop standardized guidelines for the use of NCITs and IRT.

IoT Based Smart Assist System to Monitor Entertainment Spots Occupancy and COVID 19 Screening During the Pandemic

The greatest threat to the word in recent days is the spread of COVID 19 virus throughout the world. To tackle this problem government of India has implemented various restrictions to be followed to stop the spread of the COVID 19 virus. But most of the time general public forget their responsibilities and don't follow these restrictions, especially in situations like when their favourite hero's movie releases in the theatre, and in spending time in hotels, malls and in other entertainment places in spite of governments occupancy restrictions in those places. In order to address this problem we propose an IoT based Smart System for monitoring the occupancy in such entertainment spots and screen the public entry if they dint follow the protocols such as if they dint wear mask or if they have body temperature. This proposed system is implemented on a Raspberry Pi 3B+ processor which runs on a Broadcom processor. For monitoring the occupancy and screen the visitors for mask, we use a Passive Infrared Sensors and Pi camera to count the person entering into the premises. And we use a MLX90614 Infrared temperature sensor for screening the public entry with high temperature. The complete system is implemented using python programming and the details will be uploaded to cloud, authorities can monitor this from a remote place so that the spread of COVID 19 can be restricted in pubic entertainment spots.

A Self-Powered UHF Passive Tag for Biomedical Temperature Monitoring

Self-powered RF passive sensors have potential application in temperature measurements of patients with health problems. Herein, this work presents the design and implementation of a self-powered UHF passive tag prototype for biomedical temperature monitoring. The proposed battery-free sensor is composed of three basic building blocks: a high-frequency section, a micro-power management stage, and a temperature sensor. This passive temperature sensor uses an 860 MHz to 960 MHz RF carrier and a 1 W Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) to harvest energy for its operation, showing a read range of 9.5 m with a 13.75 µW power consumption, and an overall power consumption efficiency of 10.92% was achieved. The proposed device can measure temperature variations between 0 °C and 60 °C with a sensitivity of 823.29 Hz/°C and a standard error of 13.67 Hz/°C over linear regression. Circuit functionality was validated by means of post-layout simulations, characterization, and measurements of the manufactured prototype. The chip prototype was fabricated using a 0.18 µm CMOS standard technology with a silicon area consumption of 1065 µm × 560 µm. The overall size of the self-powered passive tag is 8 cm × 2 cm, including both chip and antenna. The self-powered tag prototype could be employed for human body temperature monitoring.

Body Temperature-Indoor Condition Monitor and Activity Recognition by MEMS Accelerometer Based on IoT-Alert System for People in Quarantine Due to COVID-19

Coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) is a virus that spreads through contact with the respiratory droplets of infected persons, so quarantine is mandatory to break the infection chain. This paper proposes a wearable device with the Internet of Things (IoT) integration for real-time monitoring of body temperature the indoor condition via an alert system to the person in quarantine. The alert is transferred when the body thermal exceeds the allowed threshold temperature. Moreover, an algorithm Repetition Spikes Counter (RSC) based on an accelerometer is employed in the role of human activity recognition to realize whether the quarantined person is doing physical exercise or not, for auto-adjustment of threshold temperature. The real-time warning and stored data analysis support the family members/doctors in following and updating the quarantined people's body temperature behavior in the tele-distance. The experiment includes an M5stickC wearable device, a Microelectromechanical system (MEMS) accelerometer, an infrared thermometer, and a digital temperature sensor equipped with the user's wrist. The indoor temperature and humidity are measured to restrict the virus spread and supervise the room condition of the person in quarantine. The information is transferred to the cloud via Wi-Fi with Message Queue Telemetry Transport (MQTT) broker. The Bluetooth is integrated as an option for the data transfer from the self-isolated person to the electronic device of a family member in the case of Wi-Fi failed connection. The tested result was obtained from a student in quarantine for 14 days. The designed system successfully monitored the body temperature, exercise activity, and indoor condition of the quarantined person that handy during the Covid-19 pandemic.
