Abstract
Introduction In individuals with patellofemoral pain (PFP), addressing increased knee valgus during weight-bearing activities typically involves strengthening weak hip muscles. However, recent literature highlights the role of altered descending central control in abnormal movements associated with PFP. While transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) has demonstrated the capacity to enhance neuroplasticity, its application targeting the corticomotor function of gluteal muscles in PFP remains unexplored. This study aimed to investigate the effects of combining bimodal tDCS with exercise on frontal plane kinematics in individuals with PFP. The hypothesis was that bimodal tDCS, specifically targeting the corticomotor function of the gluteal muscles, would augment the effectiveness of exercise interventions in improving frontal plane kinematics compared to sham stimulation. Methods Ten participants with PFP participated in two sessions involving either bimodal tDCS or sham stimulation, concurrently with hip strengthening exercises. Weight-bearing tasks, including single leg squat, single leg landing, single leg hopping, forward step-down, and lateral step-down, were performed and recorded before and after each session. Pain visual analog scale (VAS) scores were also documented. A one-way ANOVA with repeated measures was employed to compare kinematics, while a Friedman test was used to compare VAS across the three conditions (pre-test, post-tDCS, and post-Sham). Results We observed no significant differences in trunk lean angle, hip and knee frontal plane projection angles, or dynamic valgus index among the three conditions during the five weight-bearing tasks. VAS scores did not differ across the three conditions. Discussion and conclusion A single session of tDCS did not demonstrate immediate efficacy in enhancing frontal plane kinematics or relieving pain in individuals with PFP. Considering observed positive outcomes in other neurological and orthopedic populations with multi-session tDCS applications, suggesting potential cumulative effects, further research is essential to explore the effects of multi-session tDCS on weight-bearing movement and underlying neurophysiology in individuals with PFP.

Abstract
The primary aim of this study was to identify kinematic differences at initial contact between female futsal players with and without previous knee injury, using a functional motor pattern test. The secondary aim was to determine kinematic differences between the dominant and non-dominant limb in the whole group, using the same test. A cross-sectional study was performed in 16 female futsal players allocated into two groups: eight females with a previous knee injury, i.e., affected by the valgus collapse mechanism without surgical intervention, and eight with no previous injury. The evaluation protocol included the change-of-direction and acceleration test (CODAT). One registration was made for each lower limb, i.e., the dominant (the preferred kicking limb) and non-dominant limb. A 3D motion capture system (Qualisys AB, Göteborg, Sweden) was used to analyze the kinematics. The Cohen's d effect sizes between the groups demonstrated a strong effect size towards more physiological positions in the non-injured group in the following kinematics in the dominant limb: hip adduction (Cohen's d = 0.82), hip internal rotation (Cohen's d = 0.88), and ipsilateral pelvis rotation (Cohen's d = 1.06). The t-test for the dominant and non-dominant limb in the whole group showed the following differences in knee valgus: dominant limb (9.02 ± 7.31 degrees) and non-dominant limb (1.27 ± 9.05 degrees) (p = 0.049). Conclusions: The players with no previous history of knee injury had a more physiological position for avoiding the valgus collapse mechanism in the hip adduction and internal rotation, and in the pelvis rotation in the dominant limb. All the players showed more knee valgus in the dominant limb, which is the limb at greater risk of injury.

Abstract
(1) The unilateral countermovement jump is commonly used to examine frontal plane kinetics during unilateral loading and to identify athletes with an increased risk of lower limb injuries. In the present study, we examined the biomechanical mechanisms of knee and pelvis stabilization during unilateral vertical jumps. (2) Healthy males performed jumps on a force plate with the dominant leg. Activity of the dominant-side gluteus medius and the contralateral-side quadratus lumborum and erector spinae muscles was recorded with surface EMG. The EMG data were normalized to the EMG activity recorded during maximal voluntary isometric hip abduction and lateral trunk flexion contractions. During jumps, the propulsive impulse was measured, and the pelvis and thigh segmental orientation angles in the frontal plane were recorded and synchronized with the EMG data. (3) The magnitude of knee valgus during the jump did not correlate with hip abduction force, but negatively correlated with gluteus medius activity. This correlation became stronger when gluteus medius activity was normalized to hip abduction force. Propulsive impulse did not correlate with any neuromechanical measurement. (4) We conclude that hip abduction force itself does not regulate the magnitude of knee valgus during unilateral jumps; rather, the gluteus medius should be highly activated to increase frontal-plane knee joint stability.

Abstract
Dynamic knee valgus (DKV) is a frontal plane knee kinematic alteration that has been associated with patellofemoral pain (PFP) in female runners. DKV is commonly assessed in clinical practice by measuring frontal plane knee projection angle (FPPA) during squat tests. However, it remains unclear whether the DKV observed in these tests is similar to or correlates with that observed during running in female runners. The aims of this cross-sectional study were to correlate and compare DKV, by measuring FPPA values, in a lateral step-down (LSD) squat test and running in female runners with and without PFP. A two-dimensional (2D) video analysis of the LSD test and running was carried out for 21 asymptomatic female runners and 17 PFP female runners in order to determine FPPA values. A Pearson correlation test and a factorial ANOVA with Bonferroni post hoc correction were used for statistical analysis. The FPPAs recorded in the LSD test were significantly higher than those recorded during running in the asymptomatic (16.32° ± 5.38 vs. 4.02° ± 3.26, p < 0.01) and PFP groups (17.54° ± 7.25 vs. 4.64° ± 3.62, p < 0.01). No significant differences were found in FPPA values between asymptomatic and PFP runners during the LSD test (16.32° ± 5.38 vs. 17.54° ± 7.25, p = 0.55) and running (4.02° ± 3.26 vs. 4.64° ± 3.62, p = 0.58). There was a small (r < 0.3) and non-significant (p > 0.05) correlation in FPPAs between the LSD test and running in both groups. According to our results, DKV was not similar during the LSD test and running, and there was no significant correlation in FPPA values between the LSD test and running in both groups. Therefore, clinicians and therapists should be aware of these findings when using the LSD test in clinical practice to evaluate DKV in female runners with or without PFP.

Abstract
The aim of this study in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) patients was to assess the effect of six months of supervised physiotherapy with a higher number of visits (SPHNV) compared to supervised physiotherapy with a lower number of visits (SPLNV) on the maximal peak torque (PT) and isometric torque (IT) of values obtained for hamstring (H) and quadriceps (Q) muscles of the knee joints under isokinetic and isometric conditions. Hypothesis: SPHNV improves IT and PT more than SPLNV. Group I had ACLR with a higher number of visits (n = 20), Group II had ACLR with a lower number of visits (n = 20), and Group III served as the control (n = 20). In Groups I and II, IT values were measured for quadriceps and hamstring muscles of the knee joints in the 13th and 24th weeks and for PT in the 18th and 24th weeks after ACLR (60 and 180 °/s). In group III, the measurements were taken once. The isometric torque and isokinetic peak torque values were measured in N*m and they were normalized to body mass as relative IT (RIT) and relative PT (RPT) were expressed in N*m/kg. Results: In both ACLR groups, the RIT and RPT values obtained from the operated knee joints significantly increased in the 24 weeks following ACLR compared to the uninvolved side. Group II had significantly lower RIT and RPT values for quadriceps and hamstring muscles of the operated limbs compared with the uninvolved limbs (p = 0.008, p = 0.001). In group I, the larger number of visits positively correlated with the higher PT for quadriceps and hamstring muscles of the operated and uninvolved knees (from r = 0.506; p = 0.023 too r = 0.566; p = 0.009), respectively. Six months of SPHNV positively correlated with and improved the IT and PT values in patients after ACLR much more significantly than six months of SPLNV.
