Aluminates with Fluorinated Schiff Bases: Influence of the Alkali Metal⁻Fluorine Interactions in Structure Stabilization

New sulfa drug derivatives and their zinc(II) complexes: synthesis, spectroscopic properties and in vitro cytotoxic activities

Synthesis of four sulfa drug derivatives (L1-L4) and Zn(II) complexes derived from sulfonamide group antibiotic substances was carried out using the hydrothermal technique (HT) and their structures of the obtained compounds were explained using elemental analysis (EA), FT-IR and NMR (1H- and 13C-). Cytotoxic activities of four novel sulfa drug based-Schiff base compounds and their Zn(II) complexes were determined by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay using MCF-7 (human breast cancer), Caco-2 (human colorectal adenocarcinoma), A2780 (human ovarian cancer) and LNCaP (human prostate adenocarcinoma) cell lines. LogIC50 values of all obtained compounds were computed with the Graphpad Prism 6 program after 24 h of treatment for MCF-7, Caco-2, A2780 and LNCaP cells. Comet assay experiments were performed using LogIC50 concentrations of all compounds to determine DNA damage. Based on the data obtained, all compounds significantly decreased MCF-7, Caco-2, A2780 and LNCaP cell viability compared to the control groups (p < 0.05).

Antioxidant and cytotoxic activities of selected salicylidene imines: experimental and computational study

Selected salicylidene imines were evaluated for their antioxidant and cytotoxic potentials. Several of them exerted potent scavenging capacity towards ABTS radical and hydrogen peroxide. The insight into the preferable antioxidative mechanism was reached employing density functional theory. In the absence of free radicals, the SPLET mechanism is dominant in polar surroundings, while HAT is prevailing in a non-polar environment. The results obtained for the reactions of the most active compounds with some medically relevant radicals pointed out competition between HAT and SPLET mechanisms. The assessment of their cytotoxic properties revealed inhibition of ER-a human breast adenocarcinoma cells or estrogen-independent prostate cancer cells. Molecular docking study with the cyclooxygenase (COX) 2 enzyme was performed to examine the most probable bioactive conformations and possible interactions between the tested derivatives and COX-2 binding pocket.

Main Group Metal-Mediated Transformations of Imines

Main-group-metal-mediated transformations of imines have earned a valued place in the synthetic chemist's toolbox. Their versatility allows the simple preparation of various nitrogen containing compounds. This review will outline the early discoveries including metallation, addition/cyclisation and metathesis pathways, followed by the modern-day use of imines in synthetic methodology. Recent advances in imine C-F activation protocols are discussed, alongside revisiting "classic" imine reactivity from a sustainable perspective. Developments in catalytic methods for hydroelementation of imines have been reviewed, highlighting the importance of s-block metals in the catalytic arena. Whilst stoichiometric transformations in alternative reaction media such as deep eutectic solvents or water have been summarised.
