Effect of the Axially Inserted Solid Rod on the Flow Field Characteristics and Separation Performance of a Hydrocyclone

In this paper, the experimental validation and numerical simulation were used to investigate the effect of the inserted solid rod on the separation process of the hydrocyclone. The simulation results are analyzed in terms of the pressure drop, air core, velocity component, turbulence intensity, and separation performance when the air core is completely inhibited or not. The results indicate that the solid rod with the smaller size cannot completely inhibit the air core, but it can still affect the separation process. The variable diameter inserted solid rod (d _vr) could inhibit the air core and ensure a larger effective separation space, which could improve the separation performance of the hydrocyclone. Specifically, the d _vr could improve energy conversion ability, tangential velocity, and separation sharpness and decrease axial velocity and turbulence intensity. Therefore, inhibiting the air core is conducive to the separation process of hydrocyclone, and the variable diameter inserted solid rod has better inhibited effect.

A Novel Centrifugal Filtration Device

In the proposed centrifugal filtration device, a filter is mounted in the center of the centrifugal chamber. The particles move towards the centrifuge wall away from the filter under centrifugal force, so a filtration cake is unlikely to accumulate here. The working fluid is injected continuously, so the feed pressure is higher than the discharge pressure, which compels the light-phase fluid to leave through the filter as filtrate. The filtrate flux rate and the movement of particles in the centrifugal chamber of the proposed filtration device were investigated using different powder particle sizes, concentrations of working fluid, centrifugal chamber rotation speeds, and filters. With a higher centrifugal chamber rotation speed, the centrifugal force acting on the particles in the centrifugal chamber was stronger, and the particles were less likely to adhere to the central filter; hence, a larger amount of filtrate was produced.

A Study of Car Wash Wastewater Treatment by Cyclo-Flow Filtration

With the increase in transportation demand and facilities in this era and the significant improvement in people’s living standards, the annual production and sales of vehicles are steadily increasing. With this, the issues of car wash wastewater treatment and water pollution are becoming more and more serious. Car wash wastewater mainly comprises fine sand, slick oil, suspended solids (SS), and surfactants, and can be quantified as chemical oxygen demand (COD) on a normative basis. This study examines the use of cyclo-flow filtration with high filtrate flux to treat car wash wastewater to solve issue of limited space in metropolitan areas and increase the willingness of the industry to invest in car wash equipment to recover water resources. The average removal rates of SS and COD are about 81% and 43%, respectively. Compared with current technology, the price of recycled water can compensate for operating costs, requiring minimal operating space owing to the single-unit cyclo-flow filtration system.
