Voltammetry at Hexamethyl-P-Terphenyl Poly(Benzimidazolium) (HMT-PMBI)-Coated Glassy Carbon Electrodes: Charge Transport Properties and Detection of Uric and Ascorbic Acid

Anion exchange polymer modified electrodes for detection of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC): a potential electrochemical sensor for point-of-care and roadside testing

The effect of a polybenzimidazolium anion exchange polymer on improving sensitivity and selectivity toward the electrochemical detection of Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) has been investigated. Herein we report a rapid, inexpensive and stable approach to detecting 10-1000 ng mL-1 of Δ9-THC in buffered solutions and in human saliva.

Electrochemical Polymerisation of Glutamic Acid on the Surface of Graphene Paste Electrode for the Detection and Quantification of Rutin in Food and Medicinal Samples

Rutin (RU) is one of the best-known natural antioxidants with various physiological functions in the human body and other plant species. In this work, an efficient voltammetric sensor to detect RU in food samples was explicated using a poly (glutamic acid)-modified graphene paste electrode (PGAMGPE). In order to detect RU, the proposed sensor diminishes material resistance and overpotential while increasing kinetic rate, peak currents, and material conductance. Using differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) and cyclic voltammetry (CV), the analysing efficiency of a PGAMGPE and a Bare graphene paste electrode (BGPE) was evaluated in 0.2 M phosphate buffer (PB) at an ideal pH of 6.5. in a potential window of -0.25 V to 0.6 V. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) was used to analyse the prepared electrode materials' conductivity, charge transfer resistance, and the kinetics of electron transport. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) images were considered to compare the exterior morphology of the PGAMGPE and the BGPE. It was discovered that the PGAMGPE and the BGPE have electroactive surfaces of 0.062 cm² and 0.04 cm², respectively. It was determined that two protons and two electrons participated in the redox process. The resultant limit of detection (LOD) was found to be 0.04 µM and 0.06 µM, respectively, using DPV and CV methods. In spite of common interferents such as metal ions and chemical species, the developed sensor's selectivity for RU detection was impressive. For the simultaneous analysis of RU in the presence of caffeine (CF), the PGAMGPE affords a good electrochemical nature for RU with good selectivity. Due to the good stability, repeatability, reproducibility, and ease of use of the present RU sensor, it is useful for real sample analysis such as food and medicinal samples with recovery ranging from 94 to 100%.

Determination of Ascorbic Acid in Pharmaceuticals and Food Supplements with the New Potassium Ferrocyanide-Doped Polypyrrole-Modified Platinum Electrode Sensor

This paper reports the results obtained from the determination of ascorbic acid with platinum-based voltammetric sensors modified with potassium hexacyanoferrate-doped polypyrrole. The preparation of the modified electrodes was carried out by electrochemical polymerization of pyrrole from aqueous solutions, using chronoamperometry. Polypyrrole films were deposited on the surface of the platinum electrode, by applying a constant potential of 0.8 V for 30 s. The thickness of the polymer film was calculated from the chronoamperometric data, and the value was 0.163 μm. Cyclic voltammetry was the method used for the Pt/PPy-FeCN electrode electrochemical characterization in several types of solution, including KCl, potassium ferrocyanide, and ascorbic acid. The thin doped polymer layer showed excellent sensitivity for ascorbic acid detection. From the voltammetric studies carried out in solutions of different concentrations of ascorbic acid, ranging from 1 to 100 × 10−6 M, a detection limit of 2.5 × 10−7 M was obtained. Validation of the analyses was performed using pharmaceutical products with different concentrations of ascorbic acid, from different manufacturers and presented in various pharmaceutical forms, i.e., intravascular administration ampoules, chewable tablets, and powder for oral suspension.

Highly sensitive determination of doxorubicin hydrochloride antitumor agent via a carbon nanotube/gold nanoparticle based nanocomposite biosensor

A glassy carbon electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) decorated with gold nanoparticles has been investigated for the first time as an ultrasensitive electrochemical sensor for the determination of doxorubicin hydrochloride (DOX), an efficient antitumor agent. The developed nanocomposite has been characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), besides cyclic and linear sweep voltammetry electrochemical techniques. An efficient catalytic activity for the reduction of DOX has been demonstrated, leading to a significant increase in peak current density and a remarkable decrease in reduction over-potential. Under the optimal condition, a wide linear DOX concentration range from 1×10^-11 to 1×10^-6 M with a very low detection limit of 6.5 pM was achieved with the modified electrode. Meanwhile, the functionalized MWCNTs/gold nanoparticles indicated an appropriate selectivity, reproducibility, and repeatability as well as long-term stability. The promising outcomes of this research approved the applicability of the developed nanocomposite sensor towards trace amounts of DOX in pharmaceutical and clinical preparations.
