A Secure and Efficient ECC-Based Scheme for Edge Computing and Internet of Things

A generalized framework for elliptic curves based PRNG and its utilization in image encryption

In the last decade, Elliptic Curves (ECs) have shown their efficacy as a safe fundamental component in encryption systems, mainly when used in Pseudorandom Number Generator (PRNG) design. This paper proposes a framework for designing EC-based PRNG and maps recent PRNG design techniques into the framework, classifying them as iterative and non-iterative. Furthermore, a PRNG is designed based on the framework and verified using the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) statistical test suite. The PRNG is then utilized in an image encryption system where statistical measures, differential attack measures, the NIST statistical test suite, and system key sensitivity analysis are used to demonstrate the system's security. The results are good and promising as compared with other related work.

Research on Humanistic Quality Higher Medical Education Based on Internet of Things and Intelligent Computing

The importance of the humanities in promoting economic and social development is becoming increasingly clear. Combining humanities with higher medical education in order to meet the needs of medical talent training in the new situation has become a key component of higher medical education reform and development. Adult higher medical education is an integral part of higher medical education, but it has different training objectives and training objects than regular higher medical education. These technological advancements are certain to hasten the continued emergence of education cloud or industry cloud, create a good information-based environment for education informatization improvement, and pose technical challenges to resource allocation in intelligent computing environments. Humanistic quality higher medical education based on the Internet of Things and intelligent computing makes the efficient intelligent information system more open, interactive, and coordinated, allowing students and teachers to perceive a variety of teaching resources more comprehensively.

Forensic Analysis on Internet of Things (IoT) Device Using Machine-to-Machine (M2M) Framework

The versatility of IoT devices increases the probability of continuous attacks on them. The low processing power and low memory of IoT devices have made it difficult for security analysts to keep records of various attacks performed on these devices during forensic analysis. The forensic analysis estimates how much damage has been done to the devices due to various attacks. In this paper, we have proposed an intelligent forensic analysis mechanism that automatically detects the attack performed on IoT devices using a machine-to-machine (M2M) framework. Further, the M2M framework has been developed using different forensic analysis tools and machine learning to detect the type of attacks. Additionally, the problem of an evidence acquisition (attack on IoT devices) has been resolved by introducing a third-party logging server. Forensic analysis is also performed on logs using forensic server (security onion) to determine the effect and nature of the attacks. The proposed framework incorporates different machine learning (ML) algorithms for the automatic detection of attacks. The performance of these models is measured in terms of accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score. The results indicate that the decision tree algorithm shows the optimum performance as compared to the other algorithms. Moreover, comprehensive performance analysis and results presented validate the proposed model.

Application of Edge Computing Technology in Hydrological Spatial Analysis and Ecological Planning

The process of rapid urbanization causes so many water security issues such as urban waterlogging, environmental water pollution, water shortages, etc. It is, therefore, necessary for us to integrate a variety of theories, methods, measures, and means to conduct ecological problem diagnosis, ecological function demand assessment, and ecological security pattern planning. Here, EC (Edge Computing) technology is applied to analyze the hydrological spatial structure characteristics and ecological planning method of waterfront green space. First, various information is collected and scientifically analyzed around the core element of ecological planning: water. Then, in-depth research is conducted on the previous hydrological spatial analysis methods to identify their defects. Subsequently, given these defects, the EC technology is introduced to design a bottom-up overall architecture of intelligent ecological planning gateway, which can be divided into field devices, EC intelligent planning gateway, transmission system, and cloud processing platform. Finally, the performance of the overall architecture of the intelligent ecological planning gateway is tested. The study aims to optimize the performance of the hydrological spatial analysis method and ecological planning method in Xianglan town of Jiamusi city. The results show that the system can detect the flood control safety system planning, analysis of water source pollution. Additionally, the system also can use the EC technology, depending on the types, hydrological characteristics, pollutants to predict treatment sludge need to put in the pollutant treatment medicament composition and dosage, protection of water source nearby residents public health security. Compared with previous hydrological spatial analysis and ecological planning methods, the system is more scientific, efficient, and expandable. The results provide a technical basis for the research in related fields.

Secure Elliptic Curve Crypto-Processor for Real-Time IoT Applications

Cybersecurity is a critical issue for Real-Time IoT applications since high performance and low latencies are required, along with security requirements to protect the large number of attack surfaces to which IoT devices are exposed. Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC) is largely adopted in an IoT context to provide security services such as key-exchange and digital signature. For Real-Time IoT applications, hardware acceleration for ECC-based algorithms can be mandatory to meet low-latency and low-power/energy requirements. In this paper, we propose a fast and configurable hardware accelerator for NIST P-256/-521 elliptic curves, developed in the context of the European Processor Initiative. The proposed architecture supports the most used cryptography schemes based on ECC such as Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA), Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme (ECIES), Elliptic Curve Diffie-Hellman (ECDH) and Elliptic Curve Menezes-Qu-Vanstone (ECMQV). A modified version of Double-And-Add-Always algorithm for Point Multiplication has been proposed, which allows the execution of Point Addition and Doubling operations concurrently and implements countermeasures against power and timing attacks. A simulated approach to extract power traces has been used to assess the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm compared to classical algorithms for Point Multiplication. A constant-time version of the Shamir’s Trick has been adopted to speed-up the Double-Point Multiplication and modular inversion is executed using Fermat’s Little Theorem, reusing the internal modular multipliers. The accelerator has been verified on a Xilinx ZCU106 development board and synthesized on both 45 nm and 7 nm Standard-Cell technologies.

Optimized Authentication System with High Security and Privacy

Authentication and privacy play an important role in the present electronic world. Biometrics and especially fingerprint-based authentication are extremely useful for unlocking doors, mobile phones, etc. Fingerprint biometrics usually store the attributes of the minutia point of a fingerprint directly in the database as a user template. Existing research works have shown that from such insecure user templates, original fingerprints can be constructed. If the database gets compromised, the attacker may construct the fingerprint of a user, which is a serious security and privacy issue. Security of original fingerprints is therefore extremely important. Ali et al. have designed a system for secure fingerprint biometrics; however, their technique has various limitations and is not optimized. In this paper, first we have proposed a secure technique which is highly robust, optimized, and fast. Secondly, unlike most of the fingerprint biometrics apart from the minutiae point location and orientation, we have used the quality of minutiae points as well to construct an optimized template. Third, the template constructed is in 3D shell shape. We have rigorously evaluated the technique on nine different fingerprint databases. The obtained results from the experiments are highly promising and show the effectiveness of the technique.

Design of Adaptive-Robust Controller for Multi-State Synchronization of Chaotic Systems with Unknown and Time-Varying Delays and Its Application in Secure Communication

In this paper, the multi-state synchronization of chaotic systems with non-identical, unknown, and time-varying delay in the presence of external perturbations and parametric uncertainties was studied. The presence of unknown delays, unknown bounds of disturbance and uncertainty, as well as changes in system parameters complicate the determination of control function and synchronization. During a synchronization scheme using a robust-adaptive control procedure with the help of the Lyapunov stability theorem, the errors converged to zero, and the updating rules were set to estimate the system parameters and delays. To investigate the performance of the proposed design, simulations have been carried out on two Chen hyper-chaotic systems as the slave and one Chua hyper-chaotic system as the master. Our results showed that the proposed controller outperformed the state-of-the-art techniques in terms of convergence speed of synchronization, parameter estimation, and delay estimation processes. The parameters and time delays were achieved with appropriate approximation. Finally, secure communication was realized with a chaotic masking method, and our results revealed the effectiveness of the proposed method in secure telecommunications.
