Mobility-Aware Proactive Edge Caching Optimization Scheme in Information-Centric IoV Networks

RIS-Aided Proactive Mobile Network Downlink Interference Suppression: A Deep Reinforcement Learning Approach

A proactive mobile network (PMN) is a novel architecture enabling extremely low-latency communication. This architecture employs an open-loop transmission mode that prohibits all real-time control feedback processes and employs virtual cell technology to allocate resources non-exclusively to users. However, such a design also results in significant potential user interference and worsens the communication's reliability. In this paper, we propose introducing multi-reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) technology into the downlink process of the PMN to increase the network's capacity against interference. Since the PMN environment is complex and time varying and accurate channel state information cannot be acquired in real time, it is challenging to manage RISs to service the PMN effectively. We begin by formulating an optimization problem for RIS phase shifts and reflection coefficients. Furthermore, motivated by recent developments in deep reinforcement learning (DRL), we propose an asynchronous advantage actor-critic (A3C)-based method for solving the problem by appropriately designing the action space, state space, and reward function. Simulation results indicate that deploying RISs within a region can significantly facilitate interference suppression. The proposed A3C-based scheme can achieve a higher capacity than baseline schemes and approach the upper limit as the number of RISs increases.

Hybrid Cooperative Cache Based on Temporal Convolutional Networks in Vehicular Edge Network

With the continuous development of intelligent vehicles, people's demand for services has also rapidly increased, leading to a sharp increase in wireless network traffic. Edge caching, due to its location advantage, can provide more efficient transmission services and become an effective method to solve the above problems. However, the current mainstream caching solutions only consider content popularity to formulate caching strategies, which can easily lead to cache redundancy between edge nodes and lead to low caching efficiency. To solve these problems, we propose a hybrid content value collaborative caching strategy based on temporal convolutional network (called THCS), which achieves mutual collaboration between different edge nodes under limited cache resources, thereby optimizing cache content and reducing content delivery latency. Specifically, the strategy first obtains accurate content popularity through temporal convolutional network (TCN), then comprehensively considers various factors to measure the hybrid content value (HCV) of cached content, and finally uses a dynamic programming algorithm to maximize the overall HCV and make optimal cache decisions. We have obtained the following conclusion through simulation experiments: compared with the benchmark scheme, THCS has improved the cache hit rate by 12.3% and reduced the content transmission delay by 16.7%.

A Survey and Tutorial on Network Optimization for Intelligent Transport System Using the Internet of Vehicles

The Internet of Things (IoT) has risen from ubiquitous computing to the Internet itself. Internet of vehicles (IoV) is the next emerging trend in IoT. We can build intelligent transportation systems (ITS) using IoV. However, overheads are imposed on IoV network due to a massive quantity of information being transferred from the devices connected in IoV. One such overhead is the network connection between the units of an IoV. To make an efficient ITS using IoV, optimization of network connectivity is required. A survey on network optimization in IoT and IoV is presented in this study. It also highlights the backdrop of IoT and IoV. This includes the applications, such as ITS with comparison to different advancements, optimization of the network, IoT discussions, along with categorization of algorithms. Some of the simulation tools are also explained which will help the research community to use those tools for pursuing research in IoV.

Global IoT Mobility: A Path Based Forwarding Approach

With the huge proliferation of mobile Internet of Things (IoT) devices such as connected vehicles, drones, and healthcare wearables, IoT networks are promising mobile connectivity capacity far beyond the conventional computing platforms. The success of this service provisioning is highly dependent on the flexibility offered by such enabling technologies to support IoT mobility using different devices and protocol stacks. Many of the connected mobile IoT devices are autonomous, and resource constrained, which poses additional challenges for mobile IoT communication. Therefore, given the unique mobility requirements of IoT devices and applications, many challenges are still to be addressed. This paper presents a global mobility management solution for IoT networks that can handle both micro and macro mobility scenarios. The solution exploits a path-based forwarding fabric together with mechanisms from Information-Centric Networking. The solution is equally suitable for legacy session-based mobile devices and emerging information-based IoT devices such as mobile sensors. Simulation evaluations have shown minimum overhead in terms of packet delivery and signalling costs to support macro mobility handover across different IoT domains.
