Influencing consumer perceptions in green tourism: criteria and strategies for effective destination branding

As the global shift towards sustainable tourism intensifies, the need for effective destination branding strategies becomes increasingly important. This study investigates and prioritizes these strategies to enhance consumer perceptions of sustainable tourism destinations, with a focus on Guilin. The research examines five key criteria, twenty sub-criteria, and nine strategic approaches essential for destination branding. The primary objective is to shape consumer perceptions and promote green tourism marketing in the region. Through the application of Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS), key criteria and strategies are identified and evaluated. Results from the fuzzy AHP highlight communication and brand transparency (GM3) as the most critical criterion, stressing the necessity of transparent communication channels. Environmental sustainability (GM1) ranks as the second most important criterion, emphasizing the importance of eco-friendly practices and the preservation of Guilin's natural environment. Stakeholder collaboration and partnerships (GM4) is identified as the third key criterion. The fuzzy TOPSIS analysis reveals the most effective strategies, with strategic collaborations and partnerships (STM9), eco-friendly infrastructure development (STM1), and energy efficiency measures (STM4) emerging as the top approaches. These strategies have significant potential to influence consumer perceptions positively towards green tourism marketing.

Integrating water science, economics, and policy for future climate adaptation

Water science, water economics, and water policy issues continue to rise in importance internationally as elevated population, income growth, and climate change magnify scarcity, shortages, and injustices in water access. Based on the unique physical, institutional, and economic characteristics of water, this work's first contribution is to characterize a road forward for research innovations that enable better integration of water science, water economics, and water policy. Meeting water's sustainable development and justice goals calls for several research innovations that humanity awaits. The advances called for in this work include deep uncertainty management, red team reviews, innovative water rights design, accelerating SDG achievement, valuing water infrastructure, valuing natural water retention, incentivizing water conservation, improving financial performance of rural water systems, water network modularization, non-price scarcity signals, optimization model calibration, remote sensing, transboundary benefit sharing, optimal growth, and water valuation. The work's second contribution is to present a prototype scalable basin scale hydroeconomic analysis (HEA) as a framework for integrating these above innovations when they occur. Results of the HEA show that losses from a 50% shortage in the basin's surface water supply can continue to protect 93% of total economic benefits across economic sectors if an efficient water trading system is established to move water from lower to higher valued uses when shortages occur. The work concludes by noting that great advances remain needed for better and longer lives.

The Role of B Companies in Tourism towards Recovery from the Crisis COVID-19 Inculcating Social Values and Responsible Entrepreneurship in Latin America

One of the particularities of companies with a social purpose is that, through their business model of B companies, they have incorporated into their processes the necessary mechanisms to obtain, simultaneously, the profits to ensure the existence of the organization in the market. At the same time, social value is generated, which is necessary to address the problems of the social crisis caused by COVID-19 and the environmental problems affecting the community. The current global health and economic crisis has opened up the possibility of adopting business model B and focusing more on the individual. Based on the grounded theory method, we have examined 3500 B Corporations in Latin America, of which 57 were examined in 10 countries listed in the Directory of B Corporations for Latin America. The main conclusions are that B Corporations dedicated to tourism through responsible entrepreneurship develop a more inclusive, sustainable and environmentally friendly economy for the benefit of society, go beyond the notion of CSR and move away from traditional business, as B Corporations combine social development and economic growth.
