Abstract
Probiotics, defined as viable microorganisms that enhance host health when consumed through the diet, exert their effects through mechanisms such as strengthening the immune system, enhancing resistance to infectious diseases, and improving tolerance to stressful conditions. Driven by a growing market, research on probiotics in aquaculture is a burgeoning field. However, the identification of new probiotics presents a complex challenge, necessitating careful consideration of both the safety and efficacy of the microorganisms employed. This review aims to delineate the most utilized and effective methods for identifying probiotics. The most effective approach currently combines in silico analysis of genomic sequences with in vitro and in vivo experiments. Two main categories of genetic traits are analyzed using bioinformatic tools: those that could harm the host or humans (e.g., toxin production, antibiotic resistance) and those that offer benefits (e.g., production of helpful compounds, and enzymes). Similarly, in vitro experiments allow us to examine the safety of a probiotic but also its effectiveness (e.g., ability to adhere to epithelia). Finally, in vivo experiments allow us to study the effect of probiotics on fish growth and health, including the ability of the probiotic to manipulate the host's microbiota and the ability to mitigate the infections. This review comprehensively analyzes these diverse aspects, with a particular focus on the potential of studying the interaction between bacterial pathogens and probiotics through these integrated methods.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE African swine fever virus (ASFV) is a highly fatal swine disease that severely affects the pig industry. Although ASFV has been prevalent for more than 100 years, effective vaccines or antiviral strategies are still lacking. In this study, we identified four Bacillus subtilis strains that inhibited ASFV proliferation in vitro. Pigs fed with liquid biologics or powders derived from four B. subtilis strains mixed with pellet feed showed reduced morbidity and mortality when challenged with ASFV. Further analysis showed that the antiviral activity of B. subtilis was based on its metabolites arctiin and genistein interfering with the function of viral topoisomerase II. Our findings offer a promising new strategy for the prevention and control of ASFV that may significantly alleviate the economic losses in the pig industry.

Abstract
Probiotics are promising antibiotics alternatives to improve growth and disease resistance of cultured fish. Our study aimed to investigate the effect of dietary stabilized culture of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GCC-3 on growth performance, gut and liver health and anti-viral ability of zebrafish (Danio rerio). Zebrafish (0.161 ± 0.001 g) were fed control and the experimental diet containing 1% GCC-3 culture (1 × 107 CFU/g diet) for four weeks. Growth performance and gut and liver health parameters were monitored after four weeks feeding. The gut microbiota was analyzed by 16S rRNA gene sequencing. In another experiment, zebrafish (0.212 ± 0.001 g) were fed with basal or GCC-3 diets and challenged by spring viremia of carp virus (SVCV) at the end of feeding. The antiviral immune response was evaluated at 2nd and 4th days post SVCV infection and survival rate was calculated 14 days after challenge. The results showed that adding 1% GCC-3 significantly improved growth performance of zebrafish (P < 0.05). The intestinal expression of hypoxia-inducible factor Hif-1α, tight junction protein ZO-1α and ZO-1β was significantly up-regulated in 1% GCC-3 group compared with control (P < 0.05). Besides, 1% GCC-3 decreased the content of MDA and increased total antioxidant capacity in the intestine, and the relative expression of SOD, GST and Gpxa was improved. The abundance of Proteobacteria was reduced while Firmicutes was enriched in the intestinal microbiota of 1% GCC-3 group compared with control (P < 0.05). Zebrafish fed 1% GCC-3 showed higher survival rate after SVCV challenge. Accordingly, the expression of antiviral genes in the spleen was increased at 2nd and 4th days post infection. In conclusion, our results indicate that dietary 1% GCC-3 supplementation can improve gut and liver health as well as antiviral immunity of zebrafish.

Abstract
Biosurfactants are a functionally and structurally heterogeneous group of biomolecules produced by multiple filamentous fungi, yeast, and bacteria, and characterized by their distinct surface and emulsifying ability. The genus Bacillus is well studied for biosurfactant production as it produces various types of lipopeptides, for example, lichenysins, bacillomycin, fengycins, and surfactins. Bacillus lipopeptides possess a broad spectrum of biological activities such as antimicrobial, antitumor, immunosuppressant, and antidiabetic, in addition to their use in skincare. Moreover, Bacillus lipopeptides are also involved in various food products to increase the antimicrobial, surfactant, and emulsification impact. From the previously published articles, it can be concluded that biosurfactants have strong potential to be used in food, healthcare, and agriculture. In this review article, we discuss the versatile functions of lipopeptide Bacillus species with particular emphasis on the biological activities and their applications in food.

Abstract
Aquaculture is the fastest food-producing sector in the world, accounting for one-third of global food production. As is the case with all intensive farming systems, increase in infectious diseases has adversely impacted the growth of marine fish farming worldwide. Viral diseases cause high economic losses in marine aquaculture. We provide an overview of the major challenges limiting the control and prevention of viral diseases in marine fish farming, as well as highlight potential solutions. The major challenges include increase in the number of emerging viral diseases, wild reservoirs, migratory species, anthropogenic activities, limitations in diagnostic tools and expertise, transportation of virus contaminated ballast water, and international trade. The proposed solutions to these problems include developing biosecurity policies at global and national levels, implementation of biosecurity measures, vaccine development, use of antiviral drugs and probiotics to combat viral infections, selective breeding of disease-resistant fish, use of improved diagnostic tools, disease surveillance, as well as promoting the use of good husbandry and management practices. A multifaceted approach combining several control strategies would provide more effective long-lasting solutions to reduction in viral infections in marine aquaculture than using a single disease control approach like vaccination alone.
