Abstract
Background/Objectives: The prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) is mainly based on the clinical stage; however, CRC is considered a complex disease due to its molecular heterogeneity. The development of novel biomarkers to improve patients' diagnosis and prognosis remains fundamental. Methods: A cohort of forty-nine CRC patients from the National Cancer Institute of Mexico was included to collect clinical and miRNA expression data. The expression of a group of miRNAs was compared between CRC and non-tumoral adjacent tissues. Prognosis assessment considering each miRNA expression was tested using Kaplan-Meier survival curves and Cox regressions. Statistical significance was defined as p ≤ 0.05. Trial registration: Retrospective study No.2021/046. Results: miR-3065-5p and miR-26a-5p expression differed between non-tumoral adjacent and tumoral tissues (p = 0.02). In terms of overall survival (OS), patients with low expression of miR-3065-5p had a median OS of 70 months, while patients with high levels did not reach the median OS (p = 0.041). Male patients with low expression of this miRNA had an OS of 70 months, whereas patients with high levels did not reach the median OS (p = 0.050). Under uni-multivariate analysis, clinical stage (HR: 1.30, CI 1.23-2.30; p: 0.001) and low levels of miR-3065-5p (HR: 1.30, CI 1.23-2.30; p: 0.001) were determined as predictor factors of OS. To this end, we designed the "Prognosis miRNAs assessment in cancer" (PROMIR-C) algorithm, which integrated clinical features with miR-3065-5p expression levels. Conclusions: These findings support the clinical utility of miR-26a-5p and miR-3065-5p in the diagnosis and prognosis of CRC. PROMIR-C is a fundamental tool for clinicians in treatment decision-making, prognosis assessment, and outcome of CRC.

Abstract
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a highly heterogeneous disease. Exploring the pathogenesis of AML is still an important topic in the treatment of AML. The expression levels of miR-26b-5p and USP48 were measured by qRT-PCR. The expression levels of related proteins were detected by Western blot. Cell proliferation and apoptosis were detected by CCK-8 and flow cytometry, respectively. Coimmunoprecipitation was used to examine the interaction between USP48 and Wnt5a. Bioinformatics analysis showed that high levels of miR-26b-5p and low levels of USP48 were associated with poor prognosis in AML. miR-26b-5p can negatively regulate the expression of USP48. Downregulation of miR-26b-5p inhibited EMT, cell viability and proliferation of AML cells and accelerated apoptosis. Furthermore, the influence of miR-26b-5p inhibition and USP48 knockdown on AML progression could be reversed by a Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway inhibitor. This study revealed that miR-26b-5p regulates AML progression, possibly by targeting the USP48-mediated Wnt/β-catenin molecular axis to affect AML cell biological behavior.

Abstract
Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. 10-20% of the patients present with bone marrow (BM) involvement which predicts a worse survival. This study aimed to determine the prognostic significance of serum miR-222-3p, miR-26b-5p, EBV-miR-BHRF1-2-5p, and EBV-miR-BHRF1-2-3p and correlate their levels to clinical and haematological markers in DLBCL with special emphasis on the lymphocyte-monocyte ratio (LMR) and neutrophil-monocyte ratio. We also studied the role of BM BMI1 and PIM2 proteins in predicting BM infiltration. Serum miRNAs were studied on 40 DLBCL and 18 normal individuals using qRT-PCR. BMI1 and PIM2 proteins were studied on BM biopsies by immunohistochemistry. The results were correlated with clinical and follow-up data. All the studied miRNAs were dysregulated in DLBCL serum samples. BMI1 and PIM2 were expressed in 67% and 77.5% of BM samples, respectively. LMR was significantly associated with disease-free survival (DFS) (P = 0.022), miR-222-3P (P = 0.043), and miR-26b-5p (P = 0.043). EBV-miR-BHRF1-2-3p was significantly correlated to haemoglobin level (P = 0.027). MiR-222-3p, miR-26b-5p, and EBV-miR-BHRF1-2-5p expressions were significantly correlated to each other (P = 0.001). There was no significant correlation between the studied markers and follow-up data. LMR is a simple method for predicting survival in DLBCL. MiR-222-3p and miR-26b-5p may be implicated in an immunological mechanism affecting patients' immunity and accordingly influence LMR. The correlation between miR-222-3p, miR-26b-5p, and EBV-miR-BHRF1-2-5p may indicate a common mechanism among the 3 miRNAs that may explain DLBCL pathogenesis.

Abstract
Gene expression dictates fundamental cellular processes and its de-regulation leads to pathological conditions. A key contributor to the fine-tuning of gene expression is Dicer, an RNA-binding protein (RBPs) that forms complexes and affects transcription by acting at the post-transcriptional level via the targeting of mRNAs by Dicer-produced small non-coding RNAs. This review aims to present the contribution of Dicer protein in a wide spectrum of human pathological conditions, including cancer, neurological, autoimmune, reproductive and cardiovascular diseases, as well as viral infections. Germline mutations of Dicer have been linked to Dicer1 syndrome, a rare genetic disorder that predisposes to the development of both benign and malignant tumors, but the exact correlation of Dicer protein expression within the different cancer types is unclear, and there are contradictions in the data. Downregulation of Dicer is related to Geographic atrophy (GA), a severe eye-disease that is a leading cause of blindness in industrialized countries, as well as to psychiatric and neurological diseases such as depression and Parkinson's disease, respectively. Both loss and upregulation of Dicer protein expression is implicated in severe autoimmune disorders, including psoriasis, ankylosing spondylitis, rheumatoid arthritis, multiple sclerosis and autoimmune thyroid diseases. Loss of Dicer contributes to cardiovascular diseases and causes defective germ cell differentiation and reproductive system abnormalities in both sexes. Dicer can also act as a strong antiviral with a crucial role in RNA-based antiviral immunity. In conclusion, Dicer is an essential enzyme for the maintenance of physiology due to its pivotal role in several cellular processes, and its loss or aberrant expression contributes to the development of severe human diseases. Further exploitation is required for the development of novel, more effective Dicer-based diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, with the goal of new clinical benefits and better quality of life for patients.

Abstract
Thyroid cancer is the most frequent type of cancers originating from the endocrine system. Early diagnosis leads to good clinical outcome in differentiated types of thyroid cancer. Yet, there are few treatment options for patients with medullary or anaplastic thyroid cancer. Thus, identification of molecular markers that explain the pathologic process during evolution of this cancer has practical significance. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been shown to influence the activity of thyroid cancer-related signaling pathways such as MAPK pathway and RET gene. These small transcripts not only can differentiate malignant tissues from non-malignant tissues, but also have differential expression in different stages of thyroid cancer. Assessment of serum levels of miRNAs is a practical noninvasive method for follow-up of patients after thyroidectomy. Moreover, the therapeutic effects of a number of miRNAs have been verified in xenograft models of thyroid cancer. In the current review, we summarize the data regarding the role of miRNAs in thyroid cancer.
