A rare osteolytic lesion in the mandible: A diagnostic dilemma

Odontogenic myxofibroma is a benign tumour that is rarely encountered in any bone other than jaws. It accounts for only 3-11% of all odontogenic tumours. The pathogenesis of these tumours is still controversial and may arise from myxomatous degeneration or fibrous stroma or from the mesenchymal portion of the tooth germ. Clinically, they are slow-growing and can cause gradual expansion of the cortical plates, loosening, displacement of teeth, and rarely root resorption. Biologically, the tumour is locally aggressive with a high recurrence rate, which warrants extensive surgical treatment. Here, we present a case of central odontogenic myxofibroma in a 45-year-old female resulting in the extensive involvement of the mandible within a month.

Odontogenic myxoma of posterior maxilla - A rare case report

Odontogenic myxoma is a benign, rare neoplasm of mesenchymal origin comprising of 3%-6% of all odontogenic tumors. Odontogenic myxoma occurs more commonly in the second and third decade and is more commonly seen in mandible compared with maxilla but behaves more aggressively in maxilla as it spreads through the maxillary antrum. It is usually associated with a painless swelling without any symptoms. The radiographic features are similar to other odontogenic tumors, and hence, it leads to diagnostic dilemma. Therefore, thorough knowledge regarding clinical, radiographical, and histopathological features are important to arrive at a proper treatment protocol as it shows a high recurrence rate. The aim of this paper was to present a rare case of 21-year-old male with a chief complaint of swelling in the left maxilla that infiltrated the maxillary sinus in a very short duration.

Solitary Plasmacytoma in the Mandible Resembling an Odontogenic Cyst/Tumor

A 46-year-old male patient referred to Department of Oral Medicine, with the primary chief complaint of a painless swelling in the right side of mandibular. A panoramic radiograph revealed a well-defined, multilocular radiolucent bony lesion with thin and straight septa in the right side of mandible extending from distal of canine to mesial of third molar. Histological examination showed a solid proliferation of atypical plasmacytoid cells, which was indicative of plasmacytoma. A systemic workup for the final diagnosis was performed to rule out multiple myeloma.
