Case report and literature review: Rare male aggressive angiomyxoma of the scrotum

Aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) is an uncommon locally infiltrative tumor that frequently occurs in the pelvic soft tissues of female patients; it has a high rate of local recurrence. However, AAM is extremely rare in males. Herein, we present the case of a 70-year-old man with a gradually enlarging painless mass in the scrotum. The patient underwent local excision of the scrotal AAM, with no local relapse after 17 months of follow-up. In addition to the present case, the clinicopathological features of males with AAM reported in literature (to the best of our knowledge) are discussed in this report. The literature review revealed that the gross morphology, clinical process, and histopathology of AAM in males resemble those of AAM in females. In particular, estrogen receptor/progesterone receptor has been shown to be expressed in male patients, which may provide an option for hormone therapy. Moreover, in males, a lower recurrence rate has been observed after surgery to remove the tumor. However, more data are needed to validate this observation. This report emphasizes the importance of considering AAM as the differential diagnosis of myxoid neoplasms in male genital areas.

Angiomyxoma of the ureter imitating an upper tract urothelial carcinoma: A case report

INTRODUCTION

Angiomyxomas are rare benign neoplasms of mesenchymal origin arising from the soft tissues of the perineum and pelvis.

CASE PRESENTATION

To our knowledge, we report the first case of ureteral angiomyxoma arising de novo in a fifty-four-year-old female patient who presented with macroscopic hematuria.

DISCUSSION

The pathological findings, radiological features and operative management will be discussed.

CONCLUSION

Angiomyxomas are notorious for their locally infiltrative nature and their propensity to recur. Clinical suspicion is capital to reach the diagnosis and a holistic care is key to a good outcome.

Aggressive Angiomyxoma Involving Penis and Urethra - A Case Report

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare benign mesenchymal stromal tumour, characterized by locally infiltrative nature and a tendency for recurrence. Only a few cases of penile involvement have been reported in the literature so far. We report a case of aggressive penile angiomyxoma in a sixty-two-year-old obese, diabetic male patient. He presented with obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and diffuse enlargement of the penis and scrotum. He was managed with excision, reduction scrotoplasty, internal urethrotomy, followed by Leuprolide therapy for prevention of recurrence. He is on follow up for 20 months without recurrence and obstructive symptoms.

Angiomyxoma of the nasal dorsum treated by Mohs surgery

Cutaneous angiomyxomas are myofibroblastic neoplasms with locally aggressive behaviour and a high risk of recurrence. We describe a case of a solitary cutaneous angiomyxoma presenting on the nasal dorsum of a 28-year-old man, excised with Mohs surgery using permanent section control and repaired with an advancement flap. Histology showed myxoid nests of bland CD34-positive and vimentin-positive stellate and spindled cells in the deep dermis and abundant thin-walled blood vessels. An echocardiogram, performed to rule out the possibility of a cardiac myxoma with cutaneous embolisation, was normal.
