Permanent maxillary central incisor impaction is generally a rare phenomenon. Because the anterior teeth have a huge impact on a patient's facial aesthetics, missing anterior teeth are of major concern to patients who seek orthodontic treatment. However, correcting this type of malocclusion poses a challenge to the orthodontist. This case report of a 16-year-old male patient with an impacted maxillary right central incisor takes us through a series of events that are necessary to treat this type of malocclusion. The presenting case also had an impacted supernumerary tooth which was the primary cause for permanent tooth impaction. A combined treatment approach is usually needed to manage this type of case involving both the orthodontist and the surgeon.

A multidisciplinary approach of impacted and transposed maxillary canine: A case report

The impacted and transposed teeth cause consequences in tooth eruption and movement, resulting in aesthetic and functional outcomes. A proper treatment plan with treatment duration and cost consideration is necessary to treat them. This study reported treatment for a 23-year-old male patient with impacted and transposed canine in maxilla using a multidisciplinary method between orthodontic and conservation. According to the anamnesis of the patient, his upper arch midline contained an extra tooth when he was a child. With the consideration of the duration and cost of treatment, the preferable and manageable treatment fell into the correction using a fixed orthodontic appliance with careful mechanics and enameloplasty to achieve the aesthetic and functional goal.

Unraveling Impacted Maxillary Incisors: The Why, When, and How

Failure of eruption of maxillary incisors requires careful diagnosis and treatment planning. The cause of impaction may vary from physical obstruction in the path of eruption, tooth material arch length discrepancy to malformation of the tooth. General principles of management of the condition include removal of physical obstruction, creation of space, and surgical exposure with or without traction. The treatment of an unerupted tooth depends upon its age, position, etiology, and amount of space in the dental arch. This case series elaborates on three different cases of incisor impaction with different etiologies and varying ranges of complexity. Three-dimensional radiography was utilized in all cases to accurately visualize the impacted tooth and its relation to adjacent structures. All the cases required different approaches and were completed in varying time durations. Meticulous treatment planning resulted in well-aligned satisfactory functional and esthetic results.
