Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study aimed at comparing the microtensile bond strength (MTBS) and interfacial adaptation of a modern self-curing and a light-curing restorative bulk-fill composite to a conventional composite applied with the layering technique. METHODS Forty-eight occlusal cavities were divided in three main groups (16/group) based on tested materials: (i) STELA, bulk-fill self-curing restorative (STELA, SDI Ltd.); (ii) 3 M-BULK, bulk-fill composite (Filtek One Bulk-Fill, 3 M Oral Care); and (iii) 3 M-CTR, a conventional composite (Filtek Supreme XTE, 3 M Oral Care). These were used in combination with their adhesives in self-etch (SE) or etch-and-rinse (ER) mode. Specimens stored in artificial saliva (24 h or 12 months) were evaluated for MTBS and fractography. The interfacial analysis was performed through confocal microscopy. ANOVA and Fisher's LSD post hoc tests were performed with a level of significance of 5%. RESULTS All the tested materials applied in ER mode presented (24 h) greater bond strength than in SE mode. Although all materials showed a significant drop in the bond strength after prolonged storage, STELA showed the highest bonding performance and interfaces with few gaps. 3 M-BULK had the lowest bond strength and an interface with several voids and gaps. CONCLUSIONS All materials were affected by interface degradation and bonding reduction over prolonged aging. However, their use in combination with adhesives applied in ER mode may offer greater immediate bonding performance. CLINICAL RELEVANCE The use of restorative light-curing bulk-fill composites may generate gaps at the bonding interface and voids. STELA may represent a suitable alternative to avoid such issues.

Effect of 940 nm laser diode irradiation prior to bonding procedure on postoperative sensitivity following class II composite restorations: a split-mouth randomized clinical trial. Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of 940 nm laser diode on class II composite cavities prior to bonding and restoration process on the postoperative sensitivity (POS). Thirty patients with two bilateral premolars with mesio or disto-occlusal carious lesions were evaluated. In each patient, the teeth were randomly divided into the control and laser groups. After cavity preparation and isolation and before the bonding process, the laser group was subjected to 940 nm irradiation (Epic 10, Biolase, USA) by 400 μ tip continuously at 100 mW with 398 J/cm2 energy density of tip, which was applied for 5 s at a distance of 2 mm on the axial wall of the cavity. In the control group, irradiation was performed by using the aiming beam. Access cavity was then restored with a composite resin. Cold sensitivity was measured using a cold spray application on the middle third of teeth buccal surface at baseline (before the intervention), 1, 14, and 30 days after the restoration by visual analog scale (VAS) criteria. The mean Friedman and Wilcoxon signed-rank tests were used for data analysis. It was shown that in both laser and control groups, the VAS was significantly decreased at all times compared to the baseline (p ≤ 0.05). There was no statistically significant difference between the mean VAS of two groups at baseline and first day (p ≤ 0.05), but at 14 and 30 days after the intervention, it was significantly lower in the laser group (p ≤ 0.05). The results of this study demonstrated that the cavity pretreatment with laser diode (940 nm) effectively reduces the postoperative sensitivity in class II composite restorations.

Abstract
Objectives: Restorative materials are used in the treatment of cervical lesions and restoration of the dental tooth. The objective of this study was to assess the suitability of the three commonly used restorative materials by dentists and the evaluation of stress distribution and deformation using Von Mises stress in cervical lesions of mandibular premolars under varying loading condition. Materials and Methods: A computerized model of restored class V cavity of mandibular premolar tooth was created using three dimensional modeling software SpaceClaim. It was subjected to occlusal pressure load of 100, 150, 200 and 250MPa at right angle to buccal cusp and was analyzed for stress distribution and deformation in different restorative materials using Finite Element analysis, ANSYS Workbench. Results: The analysis carried on the class V restored tooth from biomechanical point of view indicates that restorative material glass–ionomer cement exhibited better bonding with the tooth structure using ionic bonds with the calcium ion present in the tooth structure. The variation of 8%–9% of stress concentration is observed in cavity region across varied pressure loads with glass–ionomer cement to Cention N. Conclusion: Glass–ionomer cement had showed better results than amalgam in terms of biomechanical property which is in agreement with the clinical findings. The stress values of Cention N were comparable to that of glass–ionomer cement.

Abstract
Aim: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of different interface materials and curing units on color changes in a resin cement material. Materials and Methods: Three interface materials and different curing systems, quartz-tungsten-halogen and polywave and monowave light-emitting diode (LED) light curing units, were studied at two-time intervals. Polystyrene strip was used as a control group. All measurements were made on a white background for standard color measurement. According to the CIE L*a*b* color space, the baseline color values of each specimen were measured. Differences between the measurements were calculated as ΔE, ΔL, Δa, and Δb. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan's tests (α = 0.05) with SPSS 20.0 software (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, USA). ANOVA revealed significance for interface materials and curing units and time for ΔE (P < 0.05). Results: Interaction between polymerizing units, material and time was not significant (P > 0.05). Monowave LED exhibited significantly higher color changes than the other units ([P < 0.05] [ΔE 2.94 ± 0.44]). QTH promoted composite specimens significantly less color change ([P < 0.05] [ΔE 0.87 ± 0.41]). Conclusion: This study concluded that color of resin cement used in the adhesion of indirect restorations was affected by curing device light and indirect restoration material type.

Abstract
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of a desensitizing agent on microleakage of Class V cavities. Material and Methods 72 premolar teeth were used. There were 6 groups. Class V restorations were prepared with two different restorative materials (Equia fil, GC, America and Grandio, VOCO, Germany) and two adhesive systems (Clearfil SE Bond, Kuraray, Japan and S3 Bond Plus, Kuraray, Japan) with and without desensitizing agent (Gluma Desensitizer, Heraeus Kulzer, Germany). Restorations were polished with aluminum oxide abrasive discs. Then a range of 5 - 55C thermocycling was performed 10.000 times. The microleakage of restorations was examined with dye penetration method (Basic fuchsine). Bonferroni corrections and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to determine the significance of differences in occlusal and gingival dye penetration scores between groups. Results There was no stastistical significance between the occlusal and gingival microleakage scores within the groups were shown. Conclusions It can be concluded that use of desensitizing agent under both high viscosity glass ionomer restorative materials and resin composites doesn’t affect the microleakage. Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of delayed photo-activation on elastic modulus, Knoop hardness, and post-gel shrinkage of dual cure resin cements and how this affects residual shrinkage stresses in posterior teeth restored with ceramic inlays. METHODS AND MATERIALS Four self-adhesive (RelyX Unicem, 3M ESPE; GCem, GC; MonoCem, Shofu; and seT, SDI) and two conventional (RelyX ARC, 3M ESPE; and AllCem, FGM) dual cure resin cements for cementing posterior ceramic inlays were tested. Strain gauge and indentation tests were used to measure the post-gel shrinkage (Shr), elastic modulus (E), and Knoop hardness (KHN) when photo-activated immediately and 3 and 5 minutes after placement (n=10). Shr, E, and KHN results were analyzed using two-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey honestly significant difference post hoc tests (α=0.05). The experimentally determined properties were applied in a finite element analysis of a leucite ceramic inlay (Empress CAD, Ivoclar Vivadent) cemented in a premolar. Modified von Mises stresses were evaluated at the occlusal margins and cavity floor. RESULTS Shr, E, and KHN varied significantly among the resin cements (p<0.001). Highest overall Shr values were found for RelyX Unicem; GCem had the lowest. Increasing the photo-activation delay decreased Shr significantly. Delayed photo-activation had no effect on E (p=0.556) or KHN (p=0.927). RelyX Unicem had the highest E values; seT and MonoCem had the lowest E values. AllCem and RelyX Unicem had the highest KHN and MonoCem had the lowest KHN. Cements with high Shr and E values caused higher shrinkage stresses. Stresses decreased with delayed photo-activation for all cements. CONCLUSIONS KHN and E values varied among the different resin cements. Residual shrinkage stress levels decreased with increasing photo-activation delay with all resin cements.

Abstract
Background and Objective: Enormous advances have been made in adhesives; however, the problem of post-operative sensitivity has dragged along. Enough literature exists on the effect of air abrasion over bond strength of composites. However, not much is reported on its relation with microleakage and post operative sensitivity. Therefore, the aim of the study was to compare and evaluate dentinal hypersensitivity and microleakage associated with composite restorations in cavities preconditioned with air abrasion. Study Design: Fifteen patients were selected for the study who had to undergo extractions of both maxillary first premolars. On each patient, occlusally placed Class V cavities were made using rotary burs on both the premolars. On the right side premolar, restoration was done using total etch technique. On the left side premolar, restoration was done in similar way after preconditioning of the cavity with air abrasion. Sensitivity levels were recorded on a modified visual analogue scale preoperatively and post operatively at 1 week and one month time period. Following extraction, dye penetration test was done and 1 sample each from one group was subjected to Scanning Electron Microscope for evaluation of tooth restoration interface. Results: Clinically significant difference was there in post operative sensitivity levels after one month between the two groups. Increase in sensitivity was less in teeth restored after preconditioning with air abrasion. Dye penetration was also less in teeth restored after preconditioning with air abrasion. However, penetration at the gingival wall was more than the occlusal wall in both the groups. Conclusion: The study consolidates the fact that microleakage and post operative sensitivity are linked directly. It also proves that air abrasion can help in reducing the post operative sensitivity to a level; however, a larger sample size would be needed to obtain more robust results with stronger validation.
