Abstract
IntroductionThe epidemiological situation of tuberculosis (TB) in Poland urges for its continuous and scrupulous monitoring. The objective of this study was to explore the genetic diversity of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and drug-susceptible (DS) Mycobacterium tuberculosis isolates from Poland with a combination of spoligotyping and high-resolution mycobacterial interspersed repetitive unit-variable number tandem repeat (MIRU-VNTR) analysis. The results were placed in the Northern and Eastern Europe context.MethodsThe study included 89 (39 MDR and 50 DS) M. tuberculosis isolates collected from as many patients between 2018 and 2021 in Poland. The analysis was done using spoligotyping, and MIRU-VNTR typing at 24 standard loci. The data were compared to those available on Poland and neighbors and global M. tuberculosis datasets.ResultsThe main identified families were Beijing (28.1%) and Haarlem (16.8%) while 34.8% of isolates were in the heterogeneous L4-unclassified group. Although the Beijing family was the most prevalent (61.5%) among MDR-TB cases, it accounted for only 2% of DS isolates. Among foreign-born patients, a higher ratio of MDR isolates were observed when compared with those who Poland-born (64.3% vs. 40%). Furthermore, all patients from the Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries were infected with MDR-TB.DiscussionWhereas DS M. tuberculosis population in Poland is dominated by L4 isolates, MDR isolates are mostly of the Beijing genotype. The rise in the prevalence of the Beijing isolates in Poland, coupled with high proportion of the Beijing genotype among foreign-born TB patients may reflect an ongoing transmission of this family, imported to Poland mainly from FSU countries.

Abstract
Background Tuberculosis (TB) has remained a tough problem in China. This study aims to identify the risk of tuberculosis transmission and to assess its characteristics. Methods We performed a molecular epidemiological study for patients with culture-positive Mycobacterium tuberculosis (M. tuberculosis) in Shanghai, from 2009 to 2018. Demographic information was obtained from the Tuberculosis Information Management System. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) was conducted with a threshold of 12 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to distinguish the genomic cluster. To analyze the characteristics of TB transmission, the contact investigation for clustered cases was performed. Results In total, 94 (27.25%) of the 345 enrolled patients were grouped into 42 genomic clusters, indicating local transmission of M. tuberculosis strains. Compared to a health system delay <14 days, patients with a health system delay ≥14 days [adjusted odds ratios (AOR) = 2.57, 95% confidence interval (CI): 1.34–4.95] were more likely to be clustered. Patients under 65 years old (AOR = 3.11, 95% CI: 1.76–5.49), residents (AOR = 2.43, 95% CI: 1.18–4.99), and Beijing genotype strains (AOR = 3.35, 95% CI: 1.32–8.53) were associated with increased risk of clustering. Interestingly, patients with resistance to isoniazid (AOR = 2.36, 95% CI: 1.15–4.88) had a higher risk of transmission. Sixteen confirmed/probable epidemiological links were identified. Local transmission of imported cases and household transmission were prominent. Conclusion Health system delay is a crucial factor for TB transmission. Patients with resistance to isoniazid should be priority targets for contact investigation to reduce transmission.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To analyze actions promoting adherence to tuberculosis treatment that are being carried out by nurses in different countries. METHOD Scoping review with selection of articles on the subject in LILACS, MEDLINE, IBECS, BDENF, SciELO, CINAHL, Embase, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. RESULTS Forty studies, published between 2009 and 2020, allowed the identification of nursing actions in two thematic categories. In the category "Nursing care: TB patients' specific needs to promote adherence to treatment", actions involving clinical aspects, professionals' knowledge and skills, educational and relational processes were identified. In the category "The role of nursing in coping with the social determinants of health to promote adherence to treatment", interventions related to the strengthening of family and community support, the inclusion of socioeconomic issues in care plans, and respect for cultural differences were highlighted. CONCLUSION Nursing work directed to the adherence to disease treatment requires the development of technical, ethical and, above all, political skills, aiming to increase the success of the actions carried out by these professionals.

Abstract
AIMS Tuberculosis (TB) is still an important disease in the world, especially in developing countries. Applying efficient and suitable methods for genotyping Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) isolates is a crucial step for identifying the MTB transmission mode and controlling its subsequent outcomes. Considering the complexity of IS6110-RFLP and PGRS-RFLP methods for MTB classification, suggesting other simple but reliable techniques could be helpful in the MTB studies, especially in low-income countries. METHODS AND RESULTS This study aimed to evaluate the capabilities of three methods for genotyping MTB isolates collected from Iran through comparing our previously published results for IS6110-RFLP and PGRS-RFLP methods and current results obtained from IS6110-Mtb1/Mtb2 PCR technique. A strong concordance was observed between the results of clustering by three techniques. Calculated Kendall's Tau concordance value for correlation of IS6110-RFLP and IS6110-Mtb1/Mtb2 PCR, for IS6110-RFLP and PGRS-RFLP, and for IS6110-Mtb1/Mtb2 PCR and PGRS-RFLP techniques was equal to 0·943, 0·898 and 0·85 respectively. CONCLUSIONS A strong correlation between IS6110-Mtb1/Mtb2 PCR, and IS6110-RFLP and PGRS-RFLP methods was observed and therefore IS6110-Mtb1/Mtb2 PCR discriminates MTBs capably. SIGNIFICANCE AND IMPACT OF THE STUDY The study showed that IS6110-Mtb1/Mtb2 PCR, which is a simple and economical MTB genotyping approach, could be a more appropriate method to be applied in the low-budget research programmes.
