Abstract
Purpose Recent advances in surface high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy imaging indicate that flap applicators, human skin, and fibromatosis can be visualized using MRI. Complete MR-only surface brachytherapy workflows would require skin marker identification to define clinical target edges. However, CT markers are not detected on MR images, and common MR markers are unsuitable for continuous surface target tracing. In this paper, we proposed an alternative skin marker that was evaluated for MRI and CT detectability and contourability using a brachytherapy treatment planning system (TPS). Material and methods Commercially obtained silicone rubber tubes of 2 or 3 mm diameter were taped on the hand of an anthropomorphic phantom, a healthy volunteer, and three palmar fascial fibromatosis patients. Subjects were imaged with an optimized 3D pointwise encoding time reduction with radial acquisition (PETRA) sequence, and a volumetric interpolated breath-hold examination (VIBE) sequence with Dixon reconstruction. Additionally, patients underwent standard CT imaging. Obtained images were reviewed for tube conspicuity, and tubes were tracked on axial views using Oncentra Brachy TPS. Independent tube and muscle reference contours were drawn in MIM for quantitative analysis, considering the three orthogonal imaging planes. Results and Conclusions Silicone rubber tubes were detected with positive signal on PETRA, VIBE, and CT images. Among the MR series, Dixon VIBE fat-only showed the highest contrast against muscle tissue and the best separation from human skin, followed by DIXON opposed-phase. 3 mm diameter tubes were tracked better by TPS than 2 mm diameter ones. Considering MR images in the three orthogonal planes in MIM was more helpful for localizing the entire tube than using axial images only in TPS. All obtained contour shapes generally agreed with the known tube positions. Overall, solid silicone rubber tubes of 3 mm diameter represent a suitable skin marker alternative to CT markers for MR-only surface HDR brachytherapy.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Ledderhose disease (plantar fibromatosis) is a benign and progressive proliferative disorder of the plantar fascia that forms fixed and painful nodules within the fascia, causing functional disability and decreased quality of life. METHODS We conducted a narrative review using Pubmed (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) and searched for the terms "Ledderhose disease" "plantar fibromatosis" "Ledderhose disease treatment" "plantar fibromatosis treatment" with further focused searches in Pubmed to supplement information regarding each intervention. RESULTS Many non-surgical therapeutic strategies are used in managing symptoms. These include pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment options. Surgical treatment is employed when these therapies are not able to control the symptoms. CONCLUSION Understanding and exploring effective treatment modalities for Ledderhose disease (LD) is important in improving the functional disability and quality of life. This review aims to showcase a general outline of the condition and illustrate the present treatments used to manage the disease. LEVELS OF EVIDENCE Therapeutic study, Level V.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Updated retrospective review of the sonographic appearance of palmar fibromatosis (PF) with evaluation of the utility of the Comb Sign previously described in plantar fibromas. Additional evaluation was conducted on the location relative to the flexor tendon, anatomic proximity of palmar fibromas to the A1 pulley and evaluate any potential association with trigger finger. METHODS Medical record and imaging review was performed from 2017 to 2023, for patients with a new onset ultrasound or clinical diagnosis of PF. Clinical associations and imaging morphology were reviewed including presence of the Comb Sign, fibroma association with the A1 pulley, and fibroma association with trigger finger. RESULTS Exactly 87 total fibromas in 53 patients were evaluated. The Comb Sign was present in 39% of fibromas, usually seen in transverse plane, more prevalent in multifocal disease and larger fibromas. Most (72%) palmar fibromas were within 1 cm of, contacted, or covered the A1 pulley (P < .001). Lateral extension beyond the flexor tendon axis can be seen (44%). Trigger finger and tenosynovitis were rare. However, volume and SI dimension of fibromas were associated with tenosynovitis (P < .0001) and all nine patients with concomitant trigger finger had fibromas within 1 cm from the A1 pulley. CONCLUSIONS The Comb Sign can aid in sonographic diagnosis of PF. Lateral extension of fibromas can occur. Most palmar fibromas have a significant intimate association with the A1 pulley, and presence of trigger finger with adjacent palmar fibroma can exist and is important for hand surgeons to know preoperatively.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To systematically evaluate the effects of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) on pain, clinical and functional outcomes, and satisfaction of patients with Dupuytren disease. DATA SOURCES A thorough search for all the study types published in English was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase from inception to August 31, 2022. STUDY SELECTION Title and abstract and then full-text screening against eligibility criteria was performed independently by 2 reviewers, and a third reviewer achieved consensus. DATA EXTRACTION Reviewers identified 26 studies, of which 6 were included in the analysis (145 cases). The methodological quality was assessed using the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the Joanna Briggs Institute checklists. The certainty of evidence was evaluated using the Grading of Recommendation Assessment, Development, and Evaluation. DATA SYNTHESIS Assessments represented a remarkable improvement in the pain and function through the measurements including the visual analog scale, the Disabilities of Arm Shoulder and Hand Questionnaire, the Michigan Hand Outcome Questionnaire, and Mayo Wrist Score. Patients' satisfaction was also favorable using the Roles and Maudsley score. The hand grip strength improvement was noted in one study measured via a Jamar dynamometer. In addition, the ultrasonographic assessment of the nodules revealed a decrease in the size of the nodules in a patient with multiple bilateral nodules after the treatment. The quality of the included studies was good for all studies except for one that was fair. The certainty of evidence was moderate for pain and function and was low for patients' satisfaction and ultrasonographic findings. CONCLUSIONS ESWT can lead to significant pain improvement, functional rehabilitation, and patient satisfaction with no adverse effect in the management of Dupuytren disease. Pain may return over time, but not to that severity before the intervention. ESWT-related characteristics and the need for continuation of treatment remain to be fully elucidated in future large clinical trials.

Abstract
Dupuytren disease is a common pathologic condition that can be especially challenging to hand surgeons in recurrent or severe contractures. Recurrence risk may be reduced with a variety of techniques, including skin grafting, external fixator application, radiation, and many others described in this article. Management of recurrence requires special attention to anatomy at risk. Adjuvant therapy may help to prevent the progression or recurrence of severe disease.

Abstract
More than 15% of all soft-tissue tumors arise in the hand. Because of the location of these tumors, even small abnormalities may be alarming to patients on presentation. Although the majority of lesions are benign and can be diagnosed solely by history and physical examination, additional imaging workup may be required to confirm a diagnosis or define anatomic extent of involvement. This paper aims to review the basic epidemiology, clinical presentation, imaging findings, and treatment options of the more common soft-tissue tumors of the hand.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of and risk factors for adhesive capsulitis in older adults from Germany. The one-year and lifetime prevalence of adhesive capsulitis were assessed in adults aged ≥65 years with at least one visit to one of 1207 general practices in Germany in 2021. Associations between physical and psychiatric conditions and adhesive capsulitis were further assessed in older patients diagnosed for the first time with adhesive capsulitis in general practices in 2010-2021 (index date) and matched (1:5) to patients without adhesive capsulitis using a propensity score based on age, sex, and the index year. In adults without adhesive capsulitis, the index date was a randomly selected visit date in 2010-2021. The one-year and lifetime prevalence of adhesive capsulitis in older adults in 2021 were 0.4% and 2.4%, respectively. In 8439 patients with and 42,195 patients without adhesive capsulitis, 12 conditions were positively and significantly associated with adhesive capsulitis. Effect sizes were strongest for other and unspecified osteoarthritis (OR = 1.93), injury to the shoulder and upper arm (OR = 1.85), and injury to the thorax (OR = 1.47). Based on these findings, adhesive capsulitis can occur at older age, and osteoarthritis and injuries are major risk factors.

Abstract
Background: Plantar fibromatosis, known as Ledderhose disease, is a neoplastic disease characterized by a locally-aggressive bland fibroblastic proliferation. Although Pacinian corpuscles alterations are commonly described in palmar fibromatosis, there are still no references about Pacinian corpuscles alterations in the rarer plantar version. Methods: We present a case report where a wide cutaneous resection, including the plantar fascia was performed, allowing a detailed study of Pacinian corpuscles. Pacinian corpuscles were analyzed using immunohistochemistry for neurofilament proteins, S100 protein, CD34, vimentin, glucose transporter 1, epithelial membrane antigen, neural-cell adhesion molecule, actin, desmin, type IV collagen, and high-affinity neurotrophin Trk-receptors. Moreover, the density and the size of the corpuscles were determined. Results: A clear increase in the number (hyperplasia) of Pacinian corpuscles was evidenced in the Ledderhose disease plantar fascia in comparison with similarly aged normal subjects. Pacinian hypertrophy was not demonstrated, but a significant decrease in the number of corpuscular lamellae was noted, with a subsequent increase in the interlamellar spaces. Pacinian corpuscles from the pathological plantar fascia showed an abnormal structure and immunohistochemical profile, generally without identifiable axons, and also absence of an inner core or an intermediate layer. Moreover, other molecules related with trophic maintenance of corpuscles were also absent. Finally, a vascular proliferation was commonly noted in some corpuscles, which involved all corpuscular constituents. Conclusion: The observed Pacinian corpuscles hyperplasia could be considered a diagnostic clue of plantar fibromatosis.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The deep fascia is a three-dimensional continuum of connective tissue surrounding the bones, muscles, nerves and blood vessels throughout our body. Its importance in chronically debilitating conditions has recently been brought to light. This work investigates changes in these tissues in pathological settings. MATERIALS AND METHODS A state-of-the-art review was conducted in PubMed and Google Scholar following a two-stage process. A first search was performed to identify main types of deep fasciae. A second search was performed to identify studies considering a deep fascia, common pathologies of this deep fascia and the associated alterations in tissue anatomy. RESULTS We find that five main deep fasciae pathologies are chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, Dupuytren's disease, plantar fasciitis and iliotibial band syndrome. The corresponding fasciae are respectively the thoracolumbar fascia, the cervical fascia, the palmar fascia, the plantar fascia and the iliotibial tract. Pathological fascia is characterized by increased tissue stiffness along with alterations in myofibroblast activity and the extra-cellular matrix, both in terms of collagen and Matrix Metalloproteases (MMP) levels. Innervation changes such as increased density and sensitization of nociceptive nerve fibers are observed. Additionally, markers of inflammation such as pro-inflammatory cytokines and immune cells are documented. Pain originating from the deep fascia likely results from a combination of increased nerve density, sensitization and chronic nociceptive stimulation, whether physical or chemical. CONCLUSIONS The pathological fascia is characterized by changes in innervation, immunology and tissue contracture. Further investigation is required to best benefit both research opportunities and patient care.
