Abstract
Objective We analyzed the correlation between glycemic variability and psychological problems such as depression, anxiety disorder, and low self-esteem in pregnant and non-pregnant (excluding gestational diabetes) patients with diabetes. Besides its originality, this study might contribute to better / earlier diagnosis of these psychological conditions, with a special interest in pregnant diabetic women. Better management and cost reduction of care could be a consequence. Methods We compared diabetic pregnant and non-pregnant women from the perspective of the glycemic variability (for a period of 15 days prior inclusion in the study) and their results on the standardized questionnaires: Beck depression inventory, Hamilton anxiety scale - HRSA, Rosenberg self-esteem test. Results and Conclusions A statistically significant correlation was identified in both groups between the glycemic oscillation and depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem. Diabetic pregnant women had a higher statistical significance for the correlation between the glycemic oscillation and depression, as well as between the glycemic oscillation and anxiety than non-pregnant diabetic patients. The present data justify further research. Our results could be developed into a preliminary intervention protocol, using the daily glycemic values measurements, collected by patients.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The relationship between relative hyperglycemia and ventricular arrhythmia (VA) in critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the association between stress hyperglycemia ratio (SHR) and VA in this population. METHODS This retrospective and observational study analyzed data from 4324 critically ill patients admitted to the ICU, obtained from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care IV (MIMIC-IV) database. The SHR was calculated as the highest blood glucose level during the first 24 h of ICU admission divided by the admission blood glucose level. Based on the optimal cut-off values under the receiver operating characteristic curve, patients were stratified into high SHR (≥ 1.31) and low SHR (< 1.31) group. To investigate the impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on the outcome, patients were stratified as low SHR/DM; low SHR/non-DM; high SHR/DM, and high SHR/non-DM. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) and logistic regression analysis were performed to analyze the relationship between SHR and VA. RESULTS A total of 4,324 critically ill patients were included in this retrospective and observational study. The incidence of VA was higher in the high SHR group. Multiple-adjusted RCS revealed a "J-shaped" correlation between SHR and VA morbidity. The logistic regression model demonstrated that high SHR was associated with VA. The high SHR/non-DM group had a higher risk of VA than other groups stratified based on SHR and DM. Subgroup analysis showed that high SHR was associated with an increased risk of VA in patients with coronary artery disease. CONCLUSION High SHR is an independent risk factor and has potential as a biomarker of higher VT/VF risk in ICU-admitted patients.

Abstract
Context Diabetes is a serious public health problem that is increasing worldwide. Objectives The aim of this study is to evaluate acceptance of the illness, emotional distress, depression and quality of life in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Subjects and Methods This study was conducted in 145 individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus, 73 males (50.3%) and 72 females (49.7%), ranging in age from 20 to 65 years old. Research data were collected using the face-to-face interview technique by the researchers. The Acceptance of Illness Scale for the determination of individuals' acceptance of the illness, Problem Areas in Diabetes Scale for emotional distress, Beck Depression Inventory for depression and Short Form-36 scales for quality of life was used. Results The mean score of individuals' Acceptance of Illness Scale was 30.2±5.62. Compared to women, men had lower emotional distress, depression levels (p<0.05), higher physical, mental quality of life (p<0.001). Correlations among acceptance of illness, emotional distress, depression and quality of life were found to be significant (p<0.05). Also, models of multiple linear regression analysis were statistically significant (p=0.000). Conclusions The main goal in the treatment of diabetes should be to eliminate complaints in patients, to reduce, prevent or delay the development of complications, to increase the quality of life, to ensure that the individual has a physically, emotionally, spiritually and mentally regular life in addition to metabolic control. For this reason, it is beneficial to carry out the treatment with a multidisciplinary approach in type 2 diabetes mellitus.
