Abstract
Butafulvene is a constitutional isomer of benzene, comprising a cyclobutene skeleton bearing two exocyclic conjugated methylene units. As a result of the intrinsic high strain energy and anti-aromaticity, the preparation of butafulvene compounds has been a fundamental issue for the development of butafulvene chemistry. Here an efficient palladium-catalysed coupling protocol involving propargylic compounds has been developed, providing a solid and versatile strategy for the rapid assembly of symmetric butafulvene derivatives. Based on mechanistic studies, two complementary mechanisms, both involving palladium catalysis, have been confirmed. With the mechanism unveiled, the synthesis of non-symmetric butafulvenes has also been achieved. Advantages of this strategy include tolerance to a wide range of propargylic molecules, mild reaction conditions, simple catalytic systems and easy scalability. The synthetic potential of the products as platform molecules for cyclobutene derivatives has also been demonstrated.

Abstract
"GaOTf" is a simple, convenient source of low-valent gallium for synthetic chemistry and catalysis. However, little is currently known about its composition or reactivity. In this work, 71 Ga NMR spectroscopy shows the presence of [Ga(arene)n ]+ salts on oxidation of Ga metal with AgOTf in arene solvents. However, a more complex picture of speciation is uncovered by X-ray diffraction studies. In all cases, mixed-valence compounds containing Ga-arene and Ga-OTf coordination motifs, in addition to an unusual "naked" [Ga]+ ion, are found. Addition of 18-crown-6 allows for the isolation of a discrete GaI crown complex. Evidence of a potential intermediate in the formation of "GaOTf" has been isolated in the form of the bimetallic silver(I)/gallium(I) cluster anion [Ag4 {Ga(OTf)3 }4 (μ-Ga)6 (OTf)4 ]2- .

Abstract
Combined Lewis acid, consisting of two or more Lewis acids, sometimes shows unique catalytic ability, and it may promote reactions which could not be catalyzed by any of the Lewis acids solely. On the other hand, the development of efficient methods for the facile synthesis of cyclobutenes and densely functionalized decalins is an attractive target for synthetic chemists due to their versatile synthetic utilities and widespread occurrence in natural products. Herein, we wish to report an efficient method for the assembly of cyclobutenes and densely functionalized decalin skeletons through In(tfacac)3-TMSBr catalyzed selective [2 + 2]-cycloaddition and dearomatizing cascade reaction of aryl alkynes with acrylates with high chemo- and stereoselectivity. The obtained cyclobutene could be easily converted into cyclobutane as well as synthetically useful 1,4- and 1,5-diketones with high chemo- and stereoselectivity. On the basis of mechanistic studies, plausible reaction mechanisms were proposed for both the [2 + 2]-cycloaddition and the dearomatizing cascade reaction. Finally, the computational studies of reaction mechanisms were conducted, and the results suggest that the combined Lewis acid could efficiently promote both reactions.

Abstract
Novel homoallylic alcohols incorporating sulfone moieties were synthesized by the treatment of different carbonyl compounds with allylic bromides in aqueous mediaviasonochemical Barbier-type reaction conditions. Sulfonation ofα-bromoketones with sodium benzenesulfinate in presence of CuI/2,6-lutidine rapidly gaveβ-keto-sulfones in good yields. In general, ultrasound irradiation offered the advantages of high yields, short reaction times, and simplicity compared to the conventional methods. The structures of all the compounds were confirmed by analytical and spectral data.

Abstract
The study presented herein describes a reductive transmetalation approach toward the generation of Grignard and organozinc reagents mediated by a titanocene catalyst. This method enables the metalation of functionalized substrates without loss of functional group compatibility. Allyl zinc reagents and allyl, vinyl, and alkyl Grignard reagents were generated in situ and used in the addition to carbonyl substrates to provide the corresponding carbinols in yields up to 99%. It was discovered that phosphine ligands effectively accelerate the reductive transmetalation event to enable the metalation of C-X bonds at temperatures as low as -40 °C. Performing the reactions in the presence of chiral diamines and amino alcohols led to the enantioselective allylation of aldehydes.
