Abstract
Spontaneous intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) constitutes a significant portion of acute stroke incidents worldwide, often leading to post-stroke dysphagia (PSD), affecting 50-77% of survivors and worsening patient morbidity. This study aimed to identify predictive variables for PSD among patients with spontaneous ICH. A retrospective cohort study was conducted on adult patients with acute spontaneous ICH, confirmed by brain computed tomography, from June 2019 to June 2023. We analyzed demographic, neuroimaging, and stroke-specific characteristics and rehabilitation indicators. PSD was evaluated using nasogastric (NG) tube retention and the Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) levels at 4 and 12 weeks post-ICH. Statistical analyses involved univariate and multivariate logistic regression to identify PSD predictors. A total of 310 ICH patients were included in the study. At 4 weeks, significant predictors for NG tube retention included 24-hour National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, estimated glomerular filtration rate and sitting balance. At 12 weeks, hospital stay duration and ICH score were significant predictors for NG tube retention. Regarding the FOIS, significant predictors at 4 weeks included higher 24-hour NIHSS scores, compromised sitting balance, immobility-related complications, initial hematoma volume and intraventricular hemorrhages. At 12 weeks, older age and higher 24-hour NIHSS scores significantly predicted lower FOIS levels. Our findings demonstrate that PSD in ICH patients is influenced by a complex interplay of factors, including stroke severity, renal function, and physical impairment. The study highlights the importance of early neurological assessment, physical function, and comprehensive management in improving swallowing outcomes, emphasizing a multifaceted approach to enhancing outcomes for ICH survivors.

Abstract
Objective This systematic review aimed to identify the predictors of recovery from dysphagia after stroke in the last ten years, thereby providing an evidence-based basis for nurses to identify high-risk patients and develop individualized rehabilitation plans to improve patient prognosis. Methods Databases including the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), China Biology Medicine disc (CBMdisc), China Science and Technology Journal (VIP), WanFang, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, and Scopus were retrieved to search for literature on the predictors of recovery from dysphagia after stroke. The retrieval period was from January 2013 to December 2023. The quality of studies was assessed using the Newcastle-Ottawa Scale (NOS) and the Prediction model Risk of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST). Meta-analysis was performed using Revman5.3 and Stata15.1 software. The review protocol has been registered with PROSPERO (CRD42024605570). Results A total of 1,216 results were obtained, including 599 in English and 617 in Chinese. A total of 34 studies were included, involving 156,309 patients with post-stroke dysphagia, and the rate of dysphagia recovery increased from 13.53% at 1 week to 95% at 6 months after stroke. Meta-analysis results showed that older age [OR = 1.06, 95%CI (1.04, 1.08), P < 0.001], lower BMI [OR = 1.28, 95%CI (1.17, 1.40), P < 0.001], bilateral stroke [OR = 3.10, 95%CI (2.04, 4.72), P < 0.001], higher National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score [OR = 1.19, 95%CI (1.01, 1.39), P = 0.030], tracheal intubation [OR = 5.08, 95%CI (1.57, 16.39), P = 0.007] and aspiration [OR = 4.70, 95%CI (3.06, 7.20), P < 0.001] were unfavorable factors for the recovery of swallowing function in patients with post-stroke dysphagia. Conclusions The lack of standardized criteria for rehabilitation assessment of post-stroke dysphagia has resulted in reported recovery rates of swallowing function exhibiting wide variability. Nurses should take targeted preventive measures for patients aged ≥70 years, low BMI, bilateral stroke, high NIHSS score, tracheal intubation, and aspiration to promote the recovery of swallowing function in patients with post-stroke dysphagia.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify the predictive variables for post-stroke dysphagia (PSD) among anterior circulation large vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke patients who underwent endovascular thrombectomy (EVT). METHODS This retrospective cohort study enrolled hospitalized patients with anterior LVO stroke who underwent EVT between January 1, 2018 and October 31, 2022. PSD was defined as the unsuccessful removal of the nasogastric (NG) tube. Factors, such as premorbid characteristics, laboratory results, EVT, rehabilitation-related parameters, and neuro-imaging, were analyzed for correlations to PSD at 4 and 12 weeks. RESULTS The study enrolled 136 patients, with a mean age of 72.9 ± 13.0 years, and 59 patients (43.4%) were male. At 4 weeks, 47.1% of the patients needed an NG tube, and at 12 weeks, 16.2% still required an NG tube. We found that lower albumin, lower body mass index (BMI), higher initial and 24-h post-EVT National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores, stroke-associated pneumonia, poor initial sitting balance and ability to sit up, insula or frontal operculum lesions, and bilateral hemisphere involvement were all associated with PSD at both 4 and 12 weeks in the univariate logistic regression. Multivariate analysis revealed that significant predictors of unsuccessful NG tube removal at 4 weeks included lower BMI (adjusted OR [aOR] 0.73, p = 0.005), hemorrhagic transformation (aOR 4.01, p = 0.0335), higher NIHSS scores at 24 h post-EVT (aOR 1.13, p = 0.0288), poor initial sitting ability (aOR 0.52, p = 0.0231), insular cortex ischemia (aOR 7.26, p = 0.0056), and bilateral hemisphere involvement (aOR 41.19, p < 0.0001). At 12 weeks, lower BMI (aOR 0.78, p = 0.0098), poor initial sitting balance (aOR 0.57, p = 0.0287), insular cortex lesions (aOR 4.83, p = 0.0092), and bilateral hemisphere involvement (aOR 4.07, p = 0.0139) remained significant predictors. CONCLUSIONS In patients with anterior LVO following EVT, PSD was associated with lower BMI, higher NIHSS scores, poor initial sitting balance and sitting ability, insular lesions, and bilateral hemisphere involvement.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To construct a prognostic model for unsuccessful removal of nasogastric tube (NGT) was the aim of our study. METHODS This study examined patients with swallowing disorders receiving NGT feeding due to stroke or traumatic brain injury in a regional hospital. Clinical data was collected, such as age, sex, body mass index (BMI), level of activities of daily living (ADLs) dependence. Additionally, gather information regarding the enhancement in Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) levels and the increase in food types according to the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI) after one month of swallowing training. A stepwise logistic regression analysis model was employed to predict NGT removal failure using these parameters. RESULTS Out of 203 patients, 53 patients (26.1%) had experienced a failed removal of NGT after six months of follow-up. The strongest predictors for failed removal were age over 60 years, underweight BMI, total dependence in ADLs, and ischemic stroke. The admission prediction model categorized patients into high, moderate, and low-risk groups for removal failure. The failure rate of NGT removal was high not only in the high-risk group but also in the moderate-risk groups when there was no improvement in FOIS levels and IDDSI food types. CONCLUSION Our predictive model categorizes patients with brain insults into risk groups for swallowing disorders, enabling advanced interventions such as percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy for high-risk patients struggling with NGT removal, while follow-up assessments using FOIS and IDDSI aid in guiding rehabilitation decisions for those at moderate risk.

Abstract
Objectives: This study investigated the factors contributing to complete oral intake (COI) in dysphagic stroke patients with enteral feeding tubes in the local clinical setting. Methods: Data of patients with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) or nasogastric tube (NGT) feeding on admission to convalescent rehabilitation wards (CRWs) were extracted from the Kaga Regional Cooperation Clinical Pathway for Stroke database for multiple centers including 19 acute care hospitals and 11 hospitals with CRWs. Patients were divided into two groups based on their status regarding COI or incomplete oral intake (ICOI) at discharge. Logistic regression analysis with forced-entry variables was used to identify factors contributing to COI. Results: On discharge from CRWs, COI and ICOI were observed in 140 and 207 cases, respectively. The COI group was younger, had a higher rate of initial stroke, higher Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS) scores, higher Functional Independence Measure (FIM) motor and cognitive scores, higher Body Mass Index (BMI), lower rate of patients with PEG, and shorter stays in acute care wards. Logistic regression analysis with forced entry revealed that younger age; initial stroke; higher FOIS score, FIM cognitive score, and BMI; and shorter stay in the acute care ward contributed to COI. Conclusions: The primary factors contributing to COI in dysphagic stroke patients with enteral feeding tubes were younger age, initial stroke, higher swallowing and cognitive function, good nutritional status, and shorter stay in the acute care ward.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Stroke patients have different levels of functional impairment, and rehabilitation is essential to achieving functional recovery. Many post-stroke patients transition from acute treatment to post-acute care (PAC) with nasogastric tubes (NGTs) for rehabilitation. However, long-term NGT placement can lead to several complications, and its earlier removal can effectively reduce the incidence of mortality. This study aimed to use a PAC-cerebrovascular disease (CVD) program and physical functional evaluation scale tools to demonstrate the factors associated with NGT removal before post-stroke patient discharge. Materials and Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, data were collected between January 2017 and August 2022. We divided patients who had NGTs at admission into discharged with and without NGT groups to compare their baseline characteristics and physical functional status. Logistic regression analysis was used to detect the predictive factors for NGT removal. Results: There were 63 participants: 22 without NGT removal and 41 with NGT removal. The NGT removal rate was 65%. Age and scores for the activities of daily living by the Barthel index (BI), Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), Mini-Mental State Examination, and Concise Chinese Aphasia Test were significantly different in terms of NGT removal status, but only the BI and FOIS were significantly correlated with NGT removal. Patients' BI scores indicating severe to moderate dependence (21-90) had a 4.55 times greater chance of NGT removal (odds ratio, 4.55; p < 0.05) than patients who had total dependence (<20). Every one-point increase in FOIS score indicated a 3.07 times greater chance of NGT removal (odds ratio, 3.07; p < 0.05). Conclusions: The BI and FOIS evaluations may indicate the probability of NGT removal in patients.

Abstract
In post-stroke dysphagia, early identification of patients at highest risk of failing swallowing recovery (SR) would be useful to decide which of them should undergo percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy. The studies on this subject were numerous but generally based on small statistical samples. In this retrospective study, 1232 patients with ischemic or hemorrhagic stroke (73.7 ± 13.0 years, 51% men) were assessed: 593 non-dysphagic, 351 partially dysphagic and 288 totally dysphagic. Among the latter, 45.1% could not recover oral intake. A score to assess the risk of failing SR was obtained from the group with total dysphagia, and further 210 patients with total post-stroke dysphagia were utilized for validation. A regular progression of stroke severity markers, complications and mortality was observed from non-dysphagic, to partially dysphagic, up to totally dysphagic patients. Among the latter, seven variables were independently associated with failure of SR, and formed the "DIsPHAGIc score": cerebral lesion Diameter ≥ 6 cm (+ 1), left frontal Ischemia (- 1), Partial anterior circulation syndrome (- 1), Hypoxia (+ 1), Antiplatelet drug (+ 1), GCS verbal reaction < 4 (+ 1), Internal capsule ischemia (- 1). The area under the ROC curve was 0.79 (95% CI 0.74-0.85). For total scores ≥ 2 there was a high risk of failing SR, with specificity 76.9%, sensitivity 72.1% and accuracy 74.7%. The application of the DIsPHAGIc score to the validation sample provided almost identical results. The evolution of post-stroke dysphagia towards irreversibility can be predicted by a simple, reproducible and robust scoring system based on 7 variables commonly available during hospitalization.

Abstract
Oropharyngeal dysphagia is common post-stroke and can have serious consequences for patients. Understanding dysphagia recovery is critically important to inform prognostication and support patients and professionals with care planning. This systematic review was undertaken to identify clinical predictors of dysphagia recovery post-stroke. Online databases (EMBASE, Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, CINAHL, and Cochrane) were searched for studies reporting longitudinal swallowing recovery in adults post-stroke. Dysphagia recovery was defined as improvement measured on a clinical swallowing scale or upgrade in oral and/or enteral feeding status by the end of the follow-up period. The search strategy returned 6598 studies from which 87 studies went through full-text screening, and 19 studies were included that met the eligibility criteria. Age, airway compromise identified on instrumental assessment, dysphagia severity, bilateral lesions, and stroke severity were identified as predictors of persistent dysphagia and negative recovery in multiple logistic regression analysis. The available literature was predominated by retrospective data, and comparison of outcomes was limited by methodological differences across the studies in terms of the choice of assessment, measure of recovery, and period of follow-up. Future prospective research is warranted with increased representation of haemorrhagic strokes and uniform use of standardized scales of swallowing function.

Abstract
Dysphagia is present in 25-50% of patients with stroke. Therefore, studying the probability of nasogastric tube removal in such patients before discharge from the rehabilitation ward is crucial. In this study, we developed a model to predict the outcome of dysphagia in patients with stroke. A retrospective study was performed from May 2015 to December 2018. We reviewed the medical charts of all patients with a diagnosis of stroke receiving nasogastric tube feeding. Patients were divided into weaned and nonweaned groups to compare baseline characteristics and functional status. The weaned and nonweaned groups comprised 55 and 65 patients, respectively. In the final logistic regression analysis model, the Barthel index at admission, lip closing status, ability to answer simple questions and functional independence before stroke were used to develop a predictive model (Logit = 0.8942 × functional independence before this stroke + 1.1279 × ability to answer simple question + 0.5345 × lip-close status + 0.0546 × Barthel index at admission - 2.2805). The optimal cutoff point based on Youden's index was more than -0.8403 with a sensitivity and specificity of 85.45 and 73.85%, respectively. The positive predicted value was 73.44%. In patients with stroke and dysphagia, a high Barthel index, intact lip closing status, ability to answer simple questions and better functional status before stroke appeared to affect nasogastric tube removal before discharge from the rehabilitation ward. Based on the final regression model, the proposed equation will help physicians and speech pathologists in planning patient care.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE This retrospective study aimed to determine which factors, such as cognition, motor recovery, swallowing function, and bladder and bowel functions, significantly predicted independence in the activities of daily living (ADL) at hospital discharge in a domestic population of patients experiencing post-acute stroke who received in-hospital rehabilitation. METHODS We reviewed medical records that were retrieved from the Integrated Medical Database, National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH-iMD) of 3000 patients who suffered from stroke and were admitted to NTUH from 2014 to 2017. The main outcome measure was independence in the basic ADL (modified Barthel index [mBI]) at discharge. Regression analyses were used to identify prognostic factors for the basic ADL (mBI). RESULTS The total mBI improved from 40.7 ± 33.0 to 63.1 ± 34.1 in eligible 2538 patients during their hospital stay. The baseline daily activity function (R2 change = 0.042) was the most important prognostic factor associated with independence at discharge, followed by dependence in sitting up (R2 change = 0.014), impaired sitting balance (R2 change = 0.010), the Brunnstrom stage of hemiplegic lower limb (R2 change = 0.006), and the presence of bladder incontinence (R2 change = 0.006) assessed by physician upon rehabilitation admission (R2 = 0.53, p < 0.05). Dependency in sitting up, impaired sitting balance, and the presence of urinary incontinence were negative prognostic factors of ADL independence at discharge (p < 0.05). By contrast, the Brunnstrom stage of hemiplegic lower limb and baseline mBI scores at rehabilitation admission were positive prognostic factors of ADL independence at discharge (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION Baseline ADL function was the most important prognostic factor of functional independence in post-acute stroke. Moreover, the activity limitation of dependency on sitting up and motor function impairment of hemiplegic lower limb prognosticated functional independence.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To date, variables predicting the recovery of dysphagia in patients after dysphagic stroke have not been well defined. However, despite the difficulties in predicting and understanding the dysphagia recovery trajectory, its significance for stroke care cannot be understated. This study aims to identify the factors for functional swallowing recovery and develop nomograms that predict dysphagia recovery after stroke. METHODS The demographic, neurological, and swallowing characteristics were compared between patients who recovered from dysphagia and those who did not. Then, the factors with P <.1 through comparison were enrolled in the multivariable logistic regression analysis to build a prediction model. A nomogram was also built to provide a quantitative tool. Discrimination, calibration, and clinical usefulness of the prediction model were assessed by using the C index, calibration plot, and decision curve analysis. RESULTS Predictors in the early-phase (T7) prediction nomogram included age, Functional Oral Intake Scale (FOIS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NHISS), hemispheric stroke, and brainstem stroke on admission. In the middle phase (T14), predictors included age, FOIS, and NHISS on admission. In the late phase (T30), predictors included age, FOIS, NHISS, bilateral stroke, and body mass index on admission. The C index for the day 7, day 14, and day 30 prediction nomograms were 0.847 (95% CI, 0.804-0.884), 0.817 (95% CI, 0.772-0.857), and 0.786 (95% CI, 0.739-0.829). CONCLUSION These novel nomograms predicting dysphagia recovery after ischemic stroke are discriminative and well calibrated and could be used to guide enteral nutrition decision making, rehabilitation plans, and individualized care.

Abstract
PURPOSE To verify the factors associated with the need of tube feeding (TF) during patients post-ischemic stroke hospitalization. METHOD This is a retrospective study with 70 adult post-ischemic hemispheric stroke adult patients hospitalized in the Neurology department at a tertiary public hospital in Santa Catarina, Brazil. We investigated associations between the need of a feeding tube during hospitalization and the variables age, gender, admission and discharge NIHSS and FOIS, length of hospital stay in days, presence of thrombolytic therapy, extensive stroke, hemisphere affected, prior stroke, pneumonia during hospitalization, presence of signs of laryngeal penetration and laryngotracheal aspiration and dysphagia in the first and last swallowing clinical evaluation. RESULTS A total of 33 participants used tube feeding. There was a significant relationship among tube feeding and the following parameters: NIHSS (p value .001), FOIS (p value .001), extensive stroke (p value .034), left hemisphere involvement (p value .035), pneumonia during hospitalization (p value .001), length of hospital stay in days (p value .001), signs of laryngotracheal penetration/aspiration (p value .001) and dysphagia in speech-language assessment (p value .001). CONCLUSION Tube feeding during patients hospitalization after ischemic hemispheric stroke was predicted by the severity of stroke and signs of airway permeation.Key pointsSwallowing difficulty is one of the most common post-stroke consequences.There are few studies on the characterization of post-stroke patients with tube feeding.Tube feeding after ischemic stroke predictors were severity of stroke and signs of airway permeation.

Abstract
Objective To investigate the clinical factors associated with successful gastrostomy tube weaning in patients with prolonged dysphagia after stroke. Methods This study involved a retrospective medical chart review of patients diagnosed with prolonged dysphagia after stroke who underwent gastrostomy tube insertion between May 2013 and January 2020. Forty-seven patients were enrolled and consequently divided into gastrostomy tube sustaining and weaning groups. The numbers of patients in the sustaining and weaning groups were 31 and 16, respectively. The patients’ demographic data, Korean version of Mini-Mental State Examination (K-MMSE) score, Korean version of the Modified Barthel Index (K-MBI), Functional Dysphagia Scale (FDS) score, and Penetration-Aspiration Scale (PAS) score were compared between the two groups. A videofluoroscopic swallowing study was performed before making the decision of gastrostomy tube weaning. The clinical factors associated with gastrostomy tube weaning were then investigated. Results There were significant differences in age; history of aspiration pneumonia; K-MMSE, FDS, and PAS scores; and K-MBI between the groups. In the multiple logistic regression analysis, the FDS (odds ratio [OR]=0.791; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.634–0.987) and PAS scores (OR=0.205; 95% CI, 0.059–0.718) were associated with successful gastrostomy tube weaning. In the receiver operating characteristic curve analysis, the FDS and PAS were useful screening tools for successful weaning, with areas under the curve of 0.911 and 0.918, respectively. Conclusion In patients with prolonged dysphagia, the FDS and PAS scores are the only factors associated with successful gastrostomy tube weaning. An evaluation of the swallowing function is necessary before deciding to initiate gastrostomy tube weaning.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/PURPOSE Post-stroke dysphagia is a frequent complication. Although most patients with dysphagia recover after the acute phase, some patients require long-term enteral feeding, either through a nasogastric (NG) or gastrostomy tube; the effectiveness of using either tube is still under debate. This study elucidated the natural course of NG tube installation and removal and examined the predictors and associating factors based on clinical and brain imaging data. METHODS This retrospective cohort study with medical record reviews recruited patients received NG tube installation after their acute stroke events between January 1, 2016, and December 31, 2016. Inclusion criteria were subjects above 20 years of age and with a diagnosis of a newly onset stroke except SAH whose comprehensive clinical and imaging data were available. Survival analysis was performed for the right-censored data because some patients were lost to follow-up after discharge or transferal. RESULTS In total we recruited 135 patients. Among these patients, the timing of their NG tube removal reached a plateau at 12-16 weeks after stroke. The modified Rankin score on discharge, representing the overall subacute disease status, was the most significant factor. Other clinical variables could be divided into 2 categories: baseline patient characteristics and stroke event severity. Moreover, semi-quantitative brain imaging scores corresponding to the aforementioned 3 categories were correlated significantly. CONCLUSION In Taiwan, the NG tube removal rate reached a plateau at around 12-16 weeks after stroke onset. Variables related to long-term NG tube use were divided into baseline characteristics of patient and stroke event severity.

Abstract
Background: Patients with severe dysphagia after stroke are usually fed using a nasogastric tube. However, this method is inconvenient and causes complications. The oro-esophageal (OE) tube has been used as an alternative parenteral feeding method for patients for whom safe oral feeding is impossible. This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic effects and complications of OE tube feeding in stroke patients with dysphagia. Methods: This study was designed as a retrospective medical chart review of dysphagic stroke patients who were recommended for OE tube feeding. Thirty-eight stroke patients were recommended for OE tube feeding according to videofluoroscopic swallowing study (VFSS) findings. Of those patients, 17 received OE tube feeding training and conventional dysphagia therapy. Follow-up VFSSs were performed sequentially based on the patients’ conditions. When a patient was able to swallow therapeutic foods with specific viscosities during the VFSS, oral feeding was considered to be initiated. Patients were divided into two groups according to final feeding methods. Results: Seventeen patients attempted OE tube feeding. Among them, 64.7% of the patients could change to full oral feeding at their follow-up VFSS evaluation. Additionally, 70.6% of the patients showed gastroesophageal reflux disease regardless of whether they changed to oral feeding. On individual items of the Functional Dysphagia Scale, both groups showed significant improvements in the triggering of pharyngeal swallowing, the amount of residue, and the pharyngeal transit time. These functions were better improved in the patients who could change to oral feeding than in those who could not. Both groups showed significant aggravation of nasal penetration. Conclusion: Our study quantitatively shows the therapeutic effects and complications of OE tube training. OE tube feeding can facilitate the swallowing process and assist patients in transitioning to oral feeding. This easy-to-apply technique may significantly impact future treatment strategies in stroke patients with severe dysphagia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy may be performed in dysphagic stroke patients. However, some patients regain complete oral intake without gastrostomy. This study aimed to investigate the predictive factors of intake, thereby determining gastrostomy indications. METHOD Stroke survivors admitted to our convalescent rehabilitation ward who underwent gastrostomy or nasogastric tube placement from 2009 to 2015 were divided into 2 groups based on intake status at discharge. Demographic data and Functional Independence Measure (FIM), Dysphagia Severity Scale (DSS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) scores on admission were compared between groups. We evaluated the factors predicting intake using a stepwise logistic regression analysis. RESULTS Thirty-four patients recovered intake, whereas 38 achieved incomplete intake. Mean age was lower, mean body mass index (BMI) was higher, and mean time from stroke onset to admission was shorter in the complete intake group. The complete intake group had less impairment in terms of GCS, FIM, and DSS scores. In the stepwise logistic regression analysis, BMI, FIM-cognitive score, and DSS score were significant independent factors predicting intake. The formula of BMI × .26 + FIM cognitive score × .19 + DSS score × 1.60 predicted recovery of complete intake with a sensitivity of 88.2% and a specificity of 84.2%. CONCLUSIONS Stroke survivors with dysphagia with a high BMI and FIM-cognitive and DSS scores tended to recover oral intake.
