Osteoporosis researches in Endocrinology & Metabolism Research Institute (EMRI) of Tehran University of Medical Sciences; a Scientometrics study

Purpose

We investigated the research conducted on osteoporosis at EMRI to provide practical implications and suggestions for the development of future research.

Methods

We searched osteoporosis and related concepts, as well as various forms of affiliations to EMRI to find published documents indexed in Web of Science, PubMed, and Scopus databases until January 27, 2020. The main purpose and scopes of the studies were classified into seven main study areas. Co-authorship relations were examined using the VOSviewer and keyword analysis was carried out by the ScientoPy.

Results

A total 201 papers on the subject of osteoporosis with organizational affiliation to EMRI were found after initial screening and removing duplicates. A time trend analysis of publications showed a growing trend of EMRI's publication in the field of osteoporosis since 2014. A total of 558 independent authors participated in osteoporosis-related research at EMRI, and the average contribution of authors was 6.72 per papers. The Co-authorship network for authors contributing in at least five publications, showed 4 main clusters of independent authors. The co-occurrence network of keywords included three large and intertwined clusters including the epidemiology of osteoporosis and its resulting fractures and risk factors, bone markers and monitoring the effectiveness of treatment with them, and nutrition and supplements in the field of osteoporosis and fractures.

Conclusion

EMRI has significantly contributed in osteoporosis science and related subjects during recent years, especially in public health aspects of osteoporosis and its risk factors and consequences. More attention should be paid to other areas such clinical and basic science studies.

Project portfolio risk management. Bibliometry and collaboration Scientometric domain analysis

Purpose

''Project Portfolio Risk Management" is approached through a bibliometry and collaboration networks study determining its dynamics and development as a formal domain that links Project, Risk Management and Portfolio concepts.

Design/methodology/approach

To facilitate replicability, a scientometric study under a PRISMA structure is carried out: i) Identification or domain structuring, as well as keywording accuracy; ii) Screening: Search string refinement and outputs review; iii) Eligibility: Several criteria applied to a content analysis, and iv) Inclusion: Consolidation of domain analytics through bibliometry and collaboration networks.

Originality and findings

Assessing the field as a formal knowledge domain is novel, contributing to a synthesis of its trends and evolution: For first time, descriptive statistics show increasing attention based on the growing citation scores, participation, H index and productivity of its main journals. Project Portfolio Selection is established as hot topic, the main authors are identified, as well as key concepts such as optimization, mathematical programming, multi-objective optimization, stochastic programming, and robust optimization. Three main research themes are obtained: Incorporation of Risk Assessment into Project Portfolio Selection problem, Risk Management as a Project Portfolio Management process, and Risk Analysis considering social and environmental issues. An accurate match is found in the contrast of the domain's behavior with some bibliometric and linguistic laws.

Practical implications

Theoretical richness is achieved in the conjunction of the three terms, presenting dynamics and tendencies and thus contributing to focus related research processes on a unified field for the use of both scholars' and practitioners' perspectives.

Global Scientific Research Landscape on Medical Informatics From 2011 to 2020: Bibliometric Analysis

Background

With the emerging information and communication technology, the field of medical informatics has dramatically evolved in health care and medicine. Thus, it is crucial to explore the global scientific research landscape on medical informatics.

Objective

This study aims to present a visual form to clarify the overall scientific research trends of medical informatics in the past decade.

Methods

A bibliometric analysis of data retrieved and extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) database was performed to analyze global scientific research trends on medical informatics, including publication year, journals, authors, institutions, countries/regions, references, and keywords, from January 1, 2011, to December 31, 2020.

Results

The data set recorded 34,742 articles related to medical informatics from WoSCC between 2011 and 2020. The annual global publications increased by 193.86% from 1987 in 2011 to 5839 in 2020. Journal of Medical Internet Research (3600 publications and 63,932 citations) was the most productive and most highly cited journal in the field of medical informatics. David W Bates (99 publications), Harvard University (1161 publications), and the United States (12,927 publications) were the most productive author, institution, and country, respectively. The co-occurrence cluster analysis of high-frequency author keywords formed 4 clusters: (1) artificial intelligence in health care and medicine; (2) mobile health; (3) implementation and evaluation of electronic health records; (4) medical informatics technology application in public health. COVID-19, which ranked third in 2020, was the emerging theme of medical informatics.

Conclusions

We summarize the recent advances in medical informatics in the past decade and shed light on their publication trends, influential journals, global collaboration patterns, basic knowledge, research hotspots, and theme evolution through bibliometric analysis and visualization maps. These findings will accurately and quickly grasp the research trends and provide valuable guidance for future medical informatics research.

Análisis de las redes de colaboración entre las Instituciones de Educación Superior en Colombia de acuerdo con ResearchGate

El objetivo del presente artículo es analizar las redes de colaboración entre las Instituciones de Educación Superior (IES) en Colombia de acuerdo con el parámetro de “Top collaborating institutions” en ResearchGate. El artículo efectúa una comparación entre las redes de las Instituciones de Educación Superior acreditadas en alta calidad y las no acreditadas, de acuerdo con los lineamientos del Sistema Nacional de Acreditación en Colombia. El análisis de la colaboración institucional se realiza mediante la construcción de redes de trabajo conjunto, en el programa UCINET; se considera la primera universidad registrada en el “Top collaborating institutions” publicado en perfil de ResearchGate de cada Institución de Educación Superior. Los resultados demuestran que las instituciones acreditadas poseen una red de colaboración bien conectada e integrada. Por el contrario, las instituciones no acreditadas poseen una red de colaboración débil y poco interconectada. Además, las instituciones no acreditadas buscan colaborar principalmente con IES acreditadas y no entre ellas. De esta manera, los esfuerzos de las instituciones no acreditadas no están bien coordinados y se diluyen en la distribución de sus relaciones colaborativas.
