Abstract
Studies on the relationship between ABCB1 3435C>T polymorphism (rs1045642) and colorectal cancer (CRC)susceptibility have yielded inconclusive results. To clarify this issue, we undertook a meta-analysis to investigate the relationship between rs1045642 and CRC risk.Three electronic scientific publication databases (Cochrane Library, Pubmed, Embase) were screened using specific search terms. Relevant literature was identified using literature traceability methods. Selected publications were evaluated according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Effect size information (odds ratio and the corresponding 95% confidence interval [CI]) was obtained following quality assessment and data extraction from the included publications, and a meta-analysis conducted. Statistical analysis was performed with the Stata sofz (Version 13.0) software.Overall, 17 case-control studies involving 7129 CRC patients and 7710 healthy control subjects satisfied the criteria for inclusion in the meta-analysis. There was no significant association between ABCB1 3435C>T polymorphism and CRC risk in any of the genetic models. In the CC versus CT model (I = 20.9%, Pheterogeneity = .276), CC versus CT + TT model (I = 45.6%, Pheterogeneity = .102) and CT versus CC + TT model (I = 17.8%, Pheterogeneity = .298) analyses, between-study heterogeneities were detected as significant in Asian populations. In the CT versus TT model (I = 24%, Pheterogeneity = .254) and CC + CT versus TT model (I = 0, Pheterogeneity = .55), between-study heterogeneities were found to be significant in groups of different populations.The meta-analysis described here suggests that the ABCB1 3435C>T polymorphism is not related to CRC susceptibility.

Abstract
The overall survival rate of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) following resection remains poor due to the high rates of recurrence and metastasis. The investigation of novel biomarkers is clinically necessary to improve treatment strategies. Multidrug resistance-associated protein 1 (MRP1) and platelet count are linked to a poor prognosis in various types of cancer. However, it is unknown whether MRP1 or platelet count is a suitable prognostic indicator of NSCLC. In the present study, 427 patients with operable NSCLC were enlisted. The association of MRP1 expression and platelet count with clinical pathological factors and patient outcome was evaluated. MRP1 expression was found to be significantly associated with sex, histological type and tumor differentiation, while platelet count was significantly associated with smoking behavior, histological type and clinical stage. Platelet count was significantly higher in patients with negative MRP1 expression than in those with positive MRP1 expression. Survival analysis indicated that there was no association between MRP1 expression and disease-free survival (DFS) or overall survival (OS) time. In the patients with no lymph node metastasis, the OS time was significantly longer in patients with positive MRP1 expression than in those with negative expression. However, in the patients with lymph node metastasis, the DFS time was significantly shorter in patients with positive MRP1 expression than in those with negative expression. There was an association between the platelet count and DFS and OS times, which were significantly longer in patients with a normal platelet count than in those with thrombocytosis. In conclusion, MRP1 expression and platelet count are valuable independent prognostic biomarkers for survival in operable NSCLC.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is the most prevalent cancer in the pediatric population. From 25% to 30% of patients with ALL will have a relapse that leads to death when they are teenagers. At Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital, 40% of 126 pediatric patients with ALL relapsed from 2005 to 2011. A multiple variant of multidrug resistance gene 1 (MDR1) is C3435T, which can be used to understand the genetic basis of susceptibility to relapse.
Objectives
To identify the profile of MDR1 polymorphism in pediatric Indonesian patients with ALL.
Methods
We collected data from 44 patients with ALL who attended Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital between January and June 2014. We investigated a silent C3435T polymorphism in MDR1 exon 26 with polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism using MboI.
Results
There were 32 male and 12 female patient participants in this study. Eighteen patients were 1–3 years old and 26 were over 3 years. The mean age at 1–3 years was 2.4 ± 0.86, and over 3 years it was 6.3 ± 2.67 years. There were 27 patients with ALL in the standard risk group and 17 in the high risk group. We determined that the 25 samples from patients with ALL in the standard risk group were not digestible (allele T) and the 6 samples from patients with ALL in the high risk group were digestible (allele C).
Conclusions
The prevalence of the T allele was higher than that of the C allele in pediatric Indonesian patients with ALL.

Abstract
Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. The ABCB1 protein, a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family, encoded by the ABCB1 gene, considerably influences the distribution of drugs across cell membranes as well as multidrug resistance (MDR) of antineoplastic drugs. In contrast to the extensive knowledge on the pharmacological action of ABCB1 protein, the correlation between the clinical-pathological data and ABCB1 protein expression in patients with GC remains unclear. The aim was to investigate association between ABCB1 expression and overall survival in GC patients. Human tumor fragments from 57 GC patients were examined by immunohistochemistry assay. We observed lower survival rate of patients with GC who were positive for ABCB1 expression (p=0.030). Based on these observations, we conclude that GC patients with positive ABCB1 protein immunohistochemical expression in their tumors suffer shorter overall survival.
