Machine learning classification models for fetal skeletal development performance prediction using maternal bone metabolic proteins in goats

Machine learning-based early prediction of growth and morphological traits at yearling age in pure and hybrid goat offspring

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of various prediction models in estimating the growth and morphological traits of pure Hair, Alpine × Hair F1 (AHF1), and Saanen × Hair F1 (SHF1) hybrid offspring at yearling age by employing early body measurement records from birth till 9th month combined with meteorological data, in an extensive natural pasture-based system. The study also included other factors such as sex, farm, doe and buck IDs, birth type, gestation length, age of the doe at birth etc. For this purpose, seven different machine learning algorithms-linear regression, artificial neural network (ANN), support vector machines (SVM), decision tree, random forest, extra gradient boosting (XGB) and ExtraTree - were applied to the data coming from 1530 goat offspring in Türkiye. Early predictions of growth and morphological traits at yearling age; such as live weight (LW), body length (BL), wither height (WH), rump height (RH), rump width (RW), leg circumference (LC), shinbone girth (SG), chest width (CW), chest girth (CG) and chest depth (CD) were performed by using birth date measurements only, up to month-3, month-6 and month-9 records. Satisfactory predictive performances were achieved once the records after 6th month were used. In extensive natural pasture-based systems, this approach may serve as an effective indirect selection method for breeders. Using month-9 records, the predictions were improved, where LW and BL were found with the highest performance in terms of coefficient of determination (R2 score of 0.81 ± 0.00) by ExtraTree. As one of the rarely applied machine learning models in animal studies, we have shown the capacity of this algorithm. Overall, the current study offers utilization of the meteorological data combined with animal records by machine learning models as an alternative decision-making tool for goat farming.

Fetal growth analysis from ultrasound videos based on different biometrics using optimal segmentation and hybrid classifier

Birth defects and their associated deaths, high health and financial costs of maternal care and associated morbidity are major contributors to infant mortality. If permitted by law, prenatal diagnosis allows for intrauterine care, more complicated hospital deliveries, and termination of pregnancy. During pregnancy, a set of measurements is commonly used to monitor the fetal health, including fetal head circumference, crown-rump length, abdominal circumference, and femur length. Because of the intricate interactions between the biological tissues and the US waves mother and fetus, analyzing fetal US images from a specialized perspective is difficult. Artifacts include acoustic shadows, speckle noise, motion blur, and missing borders. The fetus moves quickly, body structures close, and the weeks of pregnancy vary greatly. In this work, we propose a fetal growth analysis through US image of head circumference biometry using optimal segmentation and hybrid classifier. First, we introduce a hybrid whale with oppositional fruit fly optimization (WOFF) algorithm for optimal segmentation of segment fetal head which improves the detection accuracy. Next, an improved U-Net design is utilized for the hidden feature (head circumference biometry) extraction which extracts features from the segmented extraction. Then, we design a modified Boosting arithmetic optimization (MBAO) algorithm for feature optimization to selects optimal best features among multiple features for the reduction of data dimensionality issues. Furthermore, a hybrid deep learning technique called bi-directional LSTM with convolutional neural network (B-LSTM-CNN) for fetal growth analysis to compute the fetus growth and health. Finally, we validate our proposed method through the open benchmark datasets are HC18 (Ultrasound image) and oxford university research archive (ORA-data) (Ultrasound video frames). We compared the simulation results of our proposed algorithm with the existing state-of-art techniques in terms of various metrics.

Using machine learning-based binary classifiers for predicting organizational members' user satisfaction with collaboration software

Background

In today's digital economy, enterprises are adopting collaboration software to facilitate digital transformation. However, if employees are not satisfied with the collaboration software, it can hinder enterprises from achieving the expected benefits. Although existing literature has contributed to user satisfaction after the introduction of collaboration software, there are gaps in predicting user satisfaction before its implementation. To address this gap, this study offers a machine learning-based forecasting method.

Methods

We utilized national public data provided by the national information society agency of South Korea. To enable the data to be used in a machine learning-based binary classifier, we discretized the predictor variable. We then validated the effectiveness of our prediction model by calculating feature importance scores and prediction accuracy.

Results

We identified 10 key factors that can predict user satisfaction. Furthermore, our analysis indicated that the naive Bayes (NB) classifier achieved the highest prediction accuracy rate of 0.780, followed by logistic regression (LR) at 0.767, extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) at 0.744, support vector machine (SVM) at 0.744, K-nearest neighbor (KNN) at 0.707, and decision tree (DT) at 0.637.

Conclusions

This research identifies essential indicators that can predict user satisfaction with collaboration software across four levels: institutional guidance, information and communication technology (ICT) environment, company culture, and demographics. Enterprises can use this information to evaluate their current collaboration status and develop strategies for introducing collaboration software. Furthermore, this study presents a novel approach to predicting user satisfaction and confirm the effectiveness of the machine learning-based prediction method proposed in this study, adding to the existing knowledge on the subject.
